Make your way to Lockport, New York, an Erie Canal town that’s a 30-minute drive from Niagara Falls.  Follow in the footsteps of Lockport miners and engineers as you walk into a 1,600 foot (488 mt.) tunnel through the rock, where you’ll find rusting remains of New York’s industrial heyday, as well as natural stalactites, flow stone, and artifacts left behind by the builders.
Learn how the hydraulic tunnel powered three separate industries with rushing water, and about Birdhill Holly, the visionary engineer that designed the tunnel and held more than 150 patents during his life.
Board a boat for an underground trip along the Erie Canal, passing through a section that’s illuminated only by occasional electric lights. Using Lockport Locks numbers 34 and 35 allows your boat to travel ‘uphill’ through the Niagara Escarpment, a solid rock ridge that traverses New York State. This tour concludes at Lockport Cave, close to downtown Lockport and part of the Erie Canal Heritage Trail.

I went with my friends on this tour and they give you so much history information on this tour. I had been to this tour years ago and forgot a lot of the stuff they were talking about. I will have to do this again soon. It is great for families too.

Adam was a great tour director! Very knowledgeable and the tour was well done! Took our visiting daughter and grandkids and they thought it was great! Celebrated afterwards at Lake Effect artisan Ice Cream. Love the licks and love Lockport NY!
