Kayaking with Dolphins in Byron Bay

Kayaking with Dolphins in Byron Bay

With relatively calm, protected waters and an abundance of marine life, Cape Byron Marine Park is an ideal sea kayaking spot. Choose from a morning or afternoon departure, and enjoy pickup from your Byron Bay hotel. You’ll be outfitted with a paddle, safety vest and a two-person sea kayak designed for ease and stability. All levels of kayaking experience are welcome.

Follow your knowledgeable surf-and-sea guides out into the marine park, learning about the area’s natural and cultural history as you paddle. Get a glimpse of the historic Cape Byron lighthouse, and hear local Aboriginal legends. Your guides will navigate the group toward the path of a local pod of more than 300 dolphins that are regularly seen swimming, splashing and jumping in the area. Get an amazingly up-close encounter with these smart and playful creatures in their natural habitat.

Keep an eye out for other marine life including sea turtles and migrating humpback whales (May to November). Disembark on a lovely local beach and refresh with morning or afternoon tea and coffee, served with Milo or Tim Tam chocolate biscuits.

Please note: In the rare event that your group does not encounter any dolphins, you can take the tour again on another day free of charge.

Great group of guides, very knowledgeable about the area and wildlife. Saw whales, dolphins and turtles. Very close up and personal with the animals and great morning in the sun and sea. Great atmosphere for meeting new people as well. I would highly recommend it!

This tour is an absolute must do when in Byron a definite highlight of our trip. All the guides were knowledgeable, extremely helpful and nothing seemed to phase them. Less experienced kayakers and swimmers can be with a guide so beginners don't have to worry. We had the privilege of having a whale within meters of us as well as dolphins and sea turtles. Was a unbelievable experience that won't be forgotten.

Overall we had an awesome time!!! We did not see dolphins but they offered us to come back at any time for free!!! It is not their fault we did not see dolphins, and they kept their word that we can come back until we see them, which is what they promised. Good job guys!!

Disappointed that we only saw a few Dolphins, however, we did see several whales on their migration south.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better February 2014

Certainly not the tour operator's fault, but I was surprised how seasick I was on a kayak! After working our way through the breaking waves on the beach and making it to the "calm waters" beyond, we had to wait for upto 1/2 hour for everyone else to join us. That 1/2 hour bobbing on the water did it for me. I had to head back to shore with no hope of sighting dolphins and it wasn't long before a few more people joined me.
