Why Travelers Choose This Tour

This tour includes options for both first-time and certified divers at two Great Barrier Reef dive sites.
After boarding your deluxe boat, which seats a max of 100 people, including your experienced guides, your Great Barrier Reef day trip starts with the boat ride from Cairns out to the reef—one of the fastest rides from Cairns, with just more than an hour of cruising time.

Depending on the weather and water conditions on the day of your tour, your guides will head to one of 12 exclusive moorings at six reef locations, providing you with the best possible on-the-water experience that day. Most likely, you’ll visit one of the Outer Great Barrier Reef spots like Saxon Reef or Norman Reef in the morning, and then continue to North Hastings Reef in the afternoon.

Upon arrival at your first location, hop in the water with your provided snorkeling equipment for a look at multicolored fish, coral and other marine life. Instruction is provided for beginners, and your knowledgeable crew members are on hand to encourage and help you, if needed. (See the Itinerary for more details about the scuba diving options, as well as the optional helicopter ride.) Then snorkel again at your second location. If you’d rather not get wet, you can still check out this World Heritage–listed underwater world on a tour by semi-submersible vessel (own expense; payable on the day of your tour).

You’ll have five hours total on the barrier reef and can refuel from your activities with the onboard buffet lunch of Australian barbecue items such as fresh fish, sausages and steak, plus a selection of pastas, salads and prawns. On the return trip to Cairns, snack on a platter of cheese and fruit while members of your talented crew provide live music and entertainment to celebrate the end of your day on the sea.

You have a choice of optional activities on this tour, as described below.

Introductory dive:
For people who want to learn to dive, an introductory diving course is offered. It’s the perfect chance to scuba dive at one of the world’s premier diving sites!

Certified dive:
If you already have your diving certification, you can take up to three dives at two different locations during this excursion, with plenty of time in between for snorkeling and relaxation. Simply pre-book the initial dive, and then have the choice to purchase additional ones during your trip. All dive gear and dive computers are provided.

Helicopter flight:
Get even more out of your day on the Great Barrier Reef with an upgrade to include a 10-minute scenic helicopter flight. Not only will you get an underwater vantage point of the reef, but you can get the overview from the air. The helicopter flight can be combined with snorkeling, diving or both for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fully appreciate the grandeur of this natural wonder.

from the moment we were welcomed onto the boat we had the most amazing day! The staff were friendly, fun and helpful whist still being professional and ensuring safety at all times. The snorkelling was out of this world-everything we hoped and more!!we had 21/2 hours at each island which was plenty of time. The food and drink was lovely and plentiful and Tommy’s singing on the way back brought it to a perfect end! Would highly recommend! Thank you Down Under Dives and Viator.

The tour company employees were very friendly and professional and the trip was so much fun for all, whether they snorkeled or not.

What an eye opening experience! I dove and snorkeled, and it's hard to say which I preferred. The number and color of different fish was practically unlimited, only matched by the variety of reef. And according to my dive instructor, it wasn't even a good day!I was very pleased with the staff of Down Under tours, and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in taking a trip.

The Down Under Company and Crew are exceptional! Very helpful and attentive! Super Nice! They are very nice and helpful. Lunch was good and very good variety.. Now the Viator scheduler is less than ideal. If the Viator scheduler would have asked 4 or even 2 simple questions regarding your dive, you would have the time of your life. You are NOT allowed to scuba dive if have epilepsy, Diabetes, or a Seizure Disorder. Common Diseases not allowed to dive. Understandable... but if Viator would ask 1 More question.. when are you flying? If you are flying 12 hours or less from your first dive, guess what, you can't scuba dive! So I paid for a scuba dive and got nothing! I will be Working on a reward for the scuba dive vs. just going out on the boat for a day on the reef.

Great trip. Everything was good. Plenty of food and help from staff. Only issue is that they charge for wetsuits.

The crew was very knowledgeable and gave a good orientation. I felt comfortable using the snorkeling equipment and felt safe in the water. The beauty of the fish and coral is beyond description - truly a "bucket list" experience. I tend to get seasick, but took medication an hour before the boat left and did not have any problem. The biscuits they serve with breakfast will also help settle your stomach. Put your sunscreen on before you put your bathing suit on, and make sure you include the back of your legs/lower buttocks, or you can gets a nasty sunburn where you sit! The food was good. Best part was Tommy T-bone, who cooked our steak Texas style just for us, and later serenaded us playing his guitar and singing songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Made the return trip a lot of fun.

This trip was beyond my expectations. The boat was beautiful and the staff were more than accommodating. There were a lot of crew members available, and all of them were friendly and made sure we had a good day. There were ports to charge our phones and devices so we could take as many pictures as we wanted. The lunch was superb - prawns, potato salad, salads w/ quinoa, etc etc. We were well taken care of and everything was handled so beautifully. The ride back was a bit choppy, so if you suffer from motion sickness, please take note. People were getting ill, but again, the staff were so attentive and patient when caring for those that were ill.
