Your day trip begins with convenient pickup at your Cairns hotel, after which you'll settle into a comfortable tour vehicle bound for Paronella Park. After the roughly 1-hour drive, disembark to explore the Spanish castle, dating from the 1930s and allegedly inspired Hayao Miyazaki's cartoon Sky City. Take a guided tour of the castle and walk through the surrounding lush gardens, past waterfalls, as your guide fills you in on the inspirational story behind the site. Total time at the site is about 2 hours, including free time and a light lunch.
Travel to Herberton Historical Village, one of Queensland's most important open air museums. Take a 45-minute guided tour of the more than 50 original out house buildings, including intact interior displays, original vehicles and machinery from the 19th century. Enjoy afternoon tea at the Bakerville Tearooms.
Your day's last stop is the Granite Gorge.
Return to Cairns via the Kuranda Range, arriving back around 6pm.
