After pickup from your hotel in in Cairo or Giza, hop inside your private, air-conditioned minivan with your Egyptologist guide. Then, take in the city’s bustling streets on route to Giza, the home of the UNESCO-listed Giza Pyramids and Sphinx.
Head onto the plateau with your guide, and stroll around the three main pyramids. Marvel at the scale of these ancient mausoleums, and listen as your guide sheds light on their history and construction, explaining how they were built for three pharaohs, Cheops, Chephren, and Mycerinus, in around 2,500 BC. Learn how the tombs served different purposes, and hear about the pharaohs they were built for.
Then, descend to the Great Sphinx, the massive statue of a human-headed lion carved during the time of Chephren. Admire the monumental sculpture, and if you wish, upgrade to take a tour inside the complex, seeing the statue close-up.
Afterward, wander to the nearby Valley Temple, the best preserved of its kind in Egypt. Explore the walkways of the limestone building, and hear how it was likely used for the mummification of the deceased Chephren.
