Our day in Cairo was incredible. Our guide was amazing. So knowledgeable and articulate and we had a real laugh. We got to see everything we had hoped and more. Having a guide for the museum was invaluable, we wouldn't have known where to start! Highly recommend and thanks to Amina for a fab day!
I had a wonderful experience with Khaled Mamdoh we started our visit by touring a souk I have forgot the name, we then moved to the museum where my wonderful guide who has knowledge in Egyptology made it easy to go about. we finally moved to the Giza region to have lunch and visits the pyramids. I had a wonderful time. travelling from one location to the other was swift and very comfortable. Andrew the travel agency driver is a star.
Recommend! - safe, efficient, informative. If you have limited time and want to get a feel for Cairos essential highlights and foundational knowledge about Egypt in one day, this will be an ideal tour. In the morning, the guide Waleed and driver Andrew were patiently waiting for me outside the terminal when I exited the airport paid extra for airport pick up and drop off, despite my flights delay. Both were excellent in making sure the day went smoothly. Waleed knows a wealth of knowledge if not everything when it comes to Egypt. Its clear he loves what he does and his passion is infectious in making you appreciate more the amazing sights you behold throughout the day.
The schedule is fairly well paced when to pack in the history lessons, when to leave you alone to appreciate sights, and when/where to take the best photos. Waleed will ensure, if not insist, you got all the photos you wanted of the Pyramids and camel in various poses. Your Facebook profile will leave Cairo happy.
In terms of itinerary, even after the flight delay, I was able to get everything done from 8AM-3PM and back in time for a 6PM flight. After the airport pick-up we immediately kicked off the day with a visit to 1 the pyramids and Sphinx pay extra around 300 Egyptian pounds or so if you want to go inside the pyramids, which Id suggest, 2 10-15 minute camel ride in front of the pyramids, 3 info sessions at perfume and papyrus shops, 4 Egyptian museum pay extra if you want to see the Royal Mummies, 5 the market.
Some other tips: 1 Aim to factor a minimum of 1200-1500 Egyptian pounds per person in cash to carry to cover for all the optimal admission fees and tips for driver and guide. More if you like to shop. 2 Unless you love to shop, dont feel pressured to buy anything at the perfume and papyrus shops! Always OK to just sit through their overview and politely decline after offers to buy.
Yesterday we spent 8 hours touring the pyramids, sphinx, Egyptian museum, a bazaar and learning how papyrus is made. We went to the bazaar first simply to see what it looked like as we preferred not to visit it at its busiest - our priority was the pyramids. Khalid was an excellent guide and the driver provided was extremely safe - part of the experience was to see what it is like to be in a car in Cairo! Khalid was very knowledgeable about Egyptian history - ancient and modern - and he amended the tour based on our priorities so it is worth thinking about the most important sights you wish to see. The pyramids and sphinx were saved for the afternoon which was definitely advantageous as it left the best until last.
The museum is beautiful and full of wonderful treasures - the level of sophisticated technology that were used by the pharaohs astounded me - folding chairs, folding umbrellas etc. We paid 300LE extra to visit the mummy section which is excellent - it seems unbelievable that these are the rulers from 3000 years ago!
Lunch was fantastic - utterly delicious. I cannot recommend it more than that - we had soup, chicken, rice, salad, bread and fruit. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and was far more authentic than eating in a hotel or westernised establishment.
The camel ride, although fairly brief, gave another view of the pyramids and we got some great photos and memories. The pyramids were as beautiful as I had hoped - the sheer mass of each stone and artistry to carve the individual shapes is beyond anything I can comprehend.
The sphinx was smaller than I had thought but still a sight to behold.
In terms of advice, there are some nice tourist souvenirs at the pyramids but you have to haggle! It is hard to work out if you have a bargain or not but as the items are not expensive I didn't mind as they have to make a living. Stick to your guns about what to pay and walk away if necessary. The papyrus gallery had some lovely paintings but they were above my budget so I didn't purchase anything but my colleague purchased a personalised picture for his father with hieroglyphic writing.
Great tour! Fatima is an amazing guide. She was more than a tour guide, she helped us bargain on the streets, gave us so much information and even helped us the day after our tour when we had issues with our hotel. She was professional, caring and kind. I highly recommend this tour when visiting Cairo.
Yasser was a great tour guide and me and my wife had a lifetime experience exploring Egypt with Yasser. Welcoming, knowledgeable and great sense of humor! Highly recommended!
Our guide Fatmah and driver from Tree of Life Tours were waiting at our hotel at scheduled time. Her education in Egyptian history/arts was apparent as we toured the Egyptian Museum. We really benefited from her knowledge of history and explanations of the amazing and beautiful artifacts that we were viewing. Afterward, we went to the bazaar, where she helped us find the couple of souvenirs we were seeking at a good price. We went to a restaurant in Giza for a delicious local lunch, and afterward stopped for a few minutes at the papyrus museum at our request/agreement to see how papyrus is made and a unique Egyptian souvenir. We then toured the pyramids and sphinx - Fatmah took some great photographs of us. The camel ride was part of the tour that I thought I would be indifferent about, but it turned out to offer the best views of the pyramids. I would highly recommend this tour, especially if you have only limited time in Cairo area. Fatmah made our tour very enjoyable.
Great way to see all Cairo has to offer in in 1 day!
Would highly recommend this trip specially the knowledgeable lady we had with us for our trip as a guide- Fatima. Loved how she explained all the details and even shared the answers with additional queries that we had. Her English was very clear to understand.
Loved her friendly attitude and making us comfortable every time.
She made our trip really enjoyable with her knowledge. And extra bonus points how she always volunteered herself to click so many pictures with a warm smile on her face. My wife highly appreciated her gesture for giving her own hat to her to pose for the pictures.
The driver also was very safe and drove us very carefully.
We are highly impressed..
Good work both of you. All the very best!
Would highly recommend the tour of the Pyramids, Sphinx, Camel Ride and Egyptian Museum. We did not go to the bizarre as we had done our shopping the day prior. The Great Pyramid and Sphinx are awesome. The camel ride is a must do. The Egyptian museum is fascinating especially King Tut's exhibit and the mummy exhibit an extra fee. We stopped for lunch at Restaurant El Dar Darak - Giza with our guide. The food was so delicious and fresh. Loved the tabouli. Definitely a trip of a lifetime.
