Begin with a 5am pickup at your Cancun hotel, then travel down the coast to Tulum in an air-conditioned coach. Join an archeologist guide to explore the site, which overlooks white sand beaches and the Caribbean Sea, and learn about daily life, culture, and beliefs in an ancient Maya city.
Find out how the city rose to power towards the end of the Maya period, as you visit the Temple of the Descending God, the brightly decorated Temple of the Frescoes, and El Castillo, a dramatic pyramid.
Continue to Rio Secreto Nature Reserve, where you’ll suit up in a wetsuit, personal floatation device, water shoes, and caving lamp to explore the underground river and series of limestone caverns. Walk along a footpath through the caves, or swim through the cool, clear-flowing river itself; the Rio Secreto caves have crystal-like formations on the ceiling and floor, and are shaped by water that seeps through the Yucatec limestone. Stalactites and stalagmites brush the surface of the water, and your cave guide will share the natural history of the cave as you walk.
After visiting the cave, you’ll have time to shower and relax in a hammock before making the return trip to Cancun. This tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
