SCAM

SCAM, the advertising is a big scam and a trap for tourists. We book the trip to go snorkeling once we got to the marina we have to pay a ducking fee 🤷🏽‍♀️ everyone in the boat $15 per person even kids. Once we arrived they told us the snorkeling wasn't available because of the weather, weather was sunny and clear they argued that the government advised not to do any snorkeling but they did not refund any money back for the trip. Then they overbook the boat and asked us to pay more money to go an a smaller boat. Once we got to the Isla Mujeres the vendors wanted to overpriced everything in the boat we were told that to rent a golf cart was about $200 Mexican pesos per 1 hour we only have 1 hr and 30 minutes at the island, the golf cart guy want it 500 pesos we were told we was going to duck at the highest point of the island it was a lie. Once we got a golf cart we drove the the other side of the island about 20 minutes and we stop at a place that was advertising snorkeling we stop and asked about it because was told in the boat that the government closed it down is was a lie. When we got back I asked the waiter in the boat and I got ignored he just walked away I speak Spanish so wasn't any misunderstanding. They advertised that the trip will be 7 hrs long but we only got 4 hrs because we didn't got to go snorkeling and paid a full price. When they asked for tips I gave $20 US dollar bill as I thought was fair for the service we got, they got nad and very pushing about tipping and when I said talked to your employer because they got all our money and in Mexico is not an obligation to tip anyone but we still give them money everyone in the boat. But they want it more. Don't waste your money and time with them.

BAD DIRECTIONS. MISSED THE BOAT.

I had an awful experience on 5/2 when trying to get to this boat. It RUINED my birthday. I gave the taxi driver the address shown under the departure and was dropped off at the wrong location (because the address is not clear). Both the taxi driver and my hotel kept asking me what is the pier number and BOTH the confirmation and the website do not have a pier number listed. The first location I was dropped off at also accepts reservations from Viator so nobody knew I was at the wrong location until it was time to board the boat. Instead of making sure I was at the correct docking/pier location, they were trying to upgrade me to an adults only boating package. Then, they sent me to another pier that was 2 blocks down and that was the wrong pier too. That pier then sent me to a third pier and by that time the boat had left. It is amazing to me that once they scan the confirmation ticket they are still unable to verify where you are suppose to go!! Oh, but it gets better. To get to the third pier (where I should have been in the first place) you must walk into a restaurant. The directions could very easily state "located inside of ____ restaurant" especially because you are UNABLE to see this restaurant from the street because of construction. There are multiple piers in close proximity of one another that are all between 3.2-3.5km. The excursion reps told me that this "happens often" because the ticket does not have a pier number and lots of people book through the same tour/attraction agency (Viator). They offered to allow me to use my ticket the next day, but I booked this tour specifically for my birthday and could not go the next day. No one offered to initiate a refund. This would have been so much easier if Viator's website was TRANSPARENT about the location of the catamaran. If Viator does not update this website with a pier number and you do not wish to pay extra to get picked up from your hotel because you are staying in the hotel zone thats literally down the street (like me) and figure that would be a WASTE of money... then DO NOT BOOK ONLINE AT ALL. Book all excursions through your hotel!!!

Fun, with a few opportunities for improvement

The trip was fun and the staff was awesome too. The island stay was not what we had planned, as there was a big fire there the day we went. Not at all the fault of the company, but a bummer anyway. The "open bar" was a bit lackluster, as it was mostly beer being poured and soda with a little alcohol and I only got two drinks during the several hour excursion. Snorkeling was in the middle of the ocean, so not in calm water, although beautiful and the fish were so close, we could touch them. Side Note: After eating the lunch provided on the island, I became pretty sick feeling and it lasted until the next day, so be careful.

The staff was incredible! Very helpful, friendly and entertaining. They only complaint I have is that there weren't more places to sit in the shade on the boat and no one could figure out how to use/ flush the toilet :)

Another Cancun tour-mill; but great and friendly staff.

This was another one of those Cancun tour "mills" where they pack people onto a boat and do the typical mexico-style vacation... i can say the help was great, friendly and did their best to make us all happy. i give the staff 5 stars and left a good tip. if you are more affluent and are looking for something more intimate with less tattoos, drunkards and generally loud behavior and ghetto music, book something private. Only issue is that its hard to find private tours in Cancun on Viator these days for some reason.

Amazing tour guides for a god awful tour.

I don’t even know where to start with this tour. The service was amazing, the guys on the catarman were great and tried their best to keep the mood up despite the disappointing and frustrating time. It was a whole day wasted and tired without doing much at all. We got picked up at 10:00am only to wait two hours to even get on the boat. Then they hastily threw us in the water for snorkeling on the “Great Mayan Reef,” which consisted of swimming to a pole underwater. We saw ONE statue before the boat pulled up to pick us up. Then they took us to eat on this back alley restaurant that served only beans, rice and pork. All deserts were an extra charge. The dingy beach was not impressive and not inviting. Either way, we only had 40 minutes to eat and get on the boat. Then they took us to “the real beach” which was just a sectioned off piece on on the pier with dirty water. They gave us 2 hours to explore but took 30 minutes to explain everything and then they forced us to walk to a jewelery store that made us walk around the whole store before we could even leave. I have toured Isla before with Aqua World. It was a wonderful experience which I hoped to relive on this sailing experience. This tour left me frustrated and upset that I spent all this money for a lackluster tour.

Fun times/better communication

The checkin was simple, wish they included the $13 per person docking fee in the price to spare that inconvenience at check-in. The snorkeling experience was dismal. The snorkeling goggles are horrible. Constant water and fog in the mask. Take your own if you want to enjoy it. The crew did not do a good enough job finding a spot on the reef. Also they did not communicate what we needed to do before we got in the water. One guy on the boat was screaming at us to hold onto the rope, another guy in the water with a lifesaver float was telling us to follow him. The current dragged us pretty far from the boat and the crew member we followed couldn’t get the attention of the boat for about 10 minutes and we just sat in the choppy water waiting. Finally they came to pick us up, but it was distributing that the crew seemed out of sync. The first stop at isla Mujeres is to eat. The crew did not communicate that we would eat for an hour then stop again to go shop and explore the island. We ended up rushing to eat, shopping at the first place we could find and overpaying for souvenirs. We got back on the boat and we stopped again in the downtown area. On the way back, the crew loaded us with tequila and brought amazing energy to cap off an overall fun trip. I recommend it.
