Loved this tour! Picked up on time in a mini-van very comfortable and AC. Once we got to Chichen Itza, we had the offer to either pay the admission fee only 230 pesos or 13 USD, or admission w/ lunch buffet combo 27 USD. You also have the option to get a guided tour however, we did not choose that option. We were then taken to our Hospitality Suite, very nice bathroom and huge lounge area. This is where we left all our bags and extra stuff You have access to the suite during your entire time there. After that, we entered Chichen Itza and basically explored at our own pace which we loved!. If you are looking for a detailed history lesson, I suggest doing the guided tour. If you are okay with understanding the basics and exploring the sight then this tour is perfect. The buffet was average and you have to pay 2 USD or 40 pesos for drinks. We tried to bring our water bottles and they did not let us bring them in. Basically you have to buy a drink in the place. After lunch, we just hanged around the pool area until it was time to go. Overall, I had a great time and I highly recommend this tour if you just want to explore Chichen Itza without feeling rushed or have a guide that talks too much.
Value for money
Fantastic place to be, and enough time for you to walk around and take pictures/videos, picnic ect. There are options to have a tour guide at various prices, dependent on the time you want them for but you do not need one. They tried to up-sell one to us and even went as far to state that there would not be any translated scriptures, however, there was/are.
We traveled around and made most of our time, took food from our hotel so we could have a mini picnic. There are places you can buy snacks and drink. There are plenty of tour groups around and to be honest, with that many, we just hopped from one to another to get a little bit of a history lesson.
The only negatives are that there was plenty of stalls and sellers with people trying to stop you at every step. However, this is a great place to buy souvenirs as there are all hand-made onsite. We saw various people carving from wood making beautiful pieces, these guys are skilled and the prices are value for money. We only spent around 3/5 for a couple of magnets and stone chichen itza. We received some valuable information too regarding the prices, because they are made on site they are cheaper, and when sold outside it includes taxes ect, makes sense and was true.
The journey was very long and although the driver was friendly, he kept ignoring my wife's request to turn the air-con off, by the time we got home she was frozen.... and traumatized. BUT i would recommend this excursion to anyone.
We took a guided tour of Chichen Itza in January 2016 and found the guided tour to be great, however lacking in the ability to and #34;go at our own pace and #34; in terms of photography and awe. This tour was a perfect balance of assistance where needed, and hours of free time to go where we wanted.
Tour was amazing. Pickups were on time and our guide Mauricio was very knowledgeable, generous and helpful. I would definetly recommend Chichen Itza visit that is 2 hours drive but worth visiting.
Excellent service, I was with Rozando, Ilario and Yoshi...pick up arrived on time...and the hosts were amazing...the cute little resort exceeded my expectation...the buffet lunch was very much appreciated...made me feel very special..will recommend and definitely be back!!
This package is one of the best ways to do Chichen Itza no other way to do it, you get about 3 hours of free time and a small hut that has private bath and changing room and small shared living that you will share with other two people. They pack four to the hut, which is not bad.
This was our first tour in Cancun and it was very good. Our driver for the entire trip, William, arrived early and called the room to let us know he arrived. When we first stepped into the van it was very clean and smelled like cinnamon. I could tell William took pride in the appearance of the van. During the ride to and from Chichen Itza, William was very cautious and courteous and was always driving at the speed limit. At one point, he even swerved to miss an Iguana that was sunbathing on the highway.
Once we arrived, we were escorted to a room and given options to buy. I chose the buffet and tour guide option for a reasonable price. The guide was very informative and friendly. After the tour, we ate at the buffett. Most of the food was decent but the Mayan tacos were amazing. We spent the rest of the time at the pool before returning to our hotel.
Overall, the trip was well worth it. I would definitely do it again but try and do the earlier trip to avoid the heat and humidity of the afternoon.
We were very impressed with the trip, bus arrived on time, very comfortable seats. Took us direct to a hotel within Chichen Itza where we purchased our entrance tickets and then walked into the park through a back entrance so there were no queues to contend with. We had four and half hours to look round the ruins which took us two hours. If weather had been better we would have stayed longer. Went back to the hotel and had a very nice buffet lunch at a reasonable rate. The bus again left on time and took us back to our hotel. Would recommend this trip if all you want to see is Chichen Itza
This is the way to see Chichen Itza. We were picked up at our hotel in a very nice Mercedes van and were able to relax coming and going on the 2 1/2 hour ride from Cancun. Upon arriving the host assisted us in getting our admission tickets as well as a personal guide for our family of 5. That was a great value at about 40 USD and Charlie our tour guide did an exceptional job of teaching us about Chichen Itza. After touring we did enjoy the hospitality suite which was perfect even though we only had a short time there - refreshing and refreshments.
This tour provided a comfortable van to travel to Chichen Itza. The people at Mayaland really push to upsell you i.e. lunch, tour guides. But you can tour the ruins on your own. After touring you can hang out at Mayaland. Viator had called Mayaland at our request to see if we could use their complimentary bikes while there. They had said yes but did not honor it when we got there. That was a disappointment.

I will find it hard to review as we paid for the at your own pace tour but ended up on a deluxe guided tour it wasn't until half way we realised we were on the wrong one! I even said several times to the tour guide i need to pay for the ticket but he covered it and lunch. On reflection it wouldn't have been as good without a tour guide i could have walked through it in 4 minutes but we spent three house with his amazing knowledge. Good tour would recommend - although wasn't at my own pace : Had access to hospitality suite but this was just lunch and a small hotel pool??
Really enjoyed our Chichen Itza tour but would recommend that you buy the entrance fees and lunch as part of the package. I spen 1500 pesos to purchase those two items. Our tour guide Rosendo was outstanding and did an excellent job in explaining in both Spanish as well as English. The time allotment to explore the park was sufficient but the park signs and map were very confusing. We actually exited the first time across the park from the hotel exit at the incorrect location. We re-entered and trekked to the correct exit.
One major turnoff was all the vendors that line up up on both sides of the walking paths and bother the visitors to purchase their wares. The Buffett lunch was excellent and we had enough time afterwards to shop in the Chocolate Shop prior to boarding our van for the 2 hour drive back to Playa del Carmen.
This was our second Viator tour and we are 2 for 2 with successful excursions. Definitely a recommendation to use Viator.
Really good tour. The only reason for the 4stars rather than 5 is that the hard sell by the Mayan Resort rep trying to get us into the planetarium show etc was a bit annoying.
Carlos and the driver sorry forgotten his name were great. Pick-up right on time and minibus was clean and comfortable. Pick-ups were fine because the small bus managed the number of these. Midway comfort stop was well planned and slick.
Going in via the resort was great missing the queues.
Not having a guide actually gave us more time to stay at the bits we loved and skip the bits we didn't like we just walked on. The buffet lunch which cost extra was good and overall I would recommend this trip.
We enjoyed this excursion very much timely and comfortable transportation and very knowledgeable tour guide. Only difficulty was when paying for the admission/lunch/tour guide, the mobile card reader malfunctioned and my sister ended up paying in cash only to find out later that two charges DID go thru on her account. I believe it was poor internet service that accounted for the malfunctioning of the mobile card readers. We were in a pretty remote area of Mexico.
Most of the trip was what I expected but I wish there were two hours added onto the trip because we did not have enough time to enjoy both Chichen Itza and the Mayaland Resort. It seems if you want to see everything at the ruins, you won't have time to do things like eat or go the pool, spa, etc. Also, I wish there was more transparency about the pick-up and drop-off timeline. We were picked up at 7 a.m. even though our ticket said pick-up was at 8 a.m. However, most of the 7-8 hour was spent waiting in a gas station parking lot waiting for another guy to drop off another couple to join us in the van. When we left the drive was an hour longer than usual because we had to drop people off in Playa Del Carmen. I don't see why our driver couldn't just go pickup that other couple. It seems like there could be a better travel system.
We loved going at our pace of the tour. There were tour guides that you could also hire if you wanted one. We just loved how we were able to be on our own and we did enjoy the hospitality suite, the pool after the long day that we had access to was great! Beautiful hotel and just a beautiful place over all. Certainly recommended. The staff was also very nice! The buffet that came with this package was also excellent! The food was out of this world!
Trip was amazing. Great car service ride to area. Hospitality Suite was nothing special. Mainly used this to get a ride to the site. Only complaint is the pick-up schedule. Viator uses another vendor to service the tour but that tour line is not always available.
The tour was enjoyable and the duration was appropriate. They were late picking us up and did not drop us off at the hotel for their convenience. The van was air-conditioned, fortunately, and the roads are well maintained. Food was worth it, although beverages are not included, and I was told that there was a 10 discount on beverages that I was later told was not the case. There's an amusing show with lunch. Oscar, our guide, was excellent. I would recommend this tour, overall.
This tour is a brilliant concept but fell short. 6 of us were taken to the hospitality suite and given options on how to spend our time on this your own pace tour. We did not know each other and the Mayaland rep did not have the correct change in dollars or pesos for us to make individual payments for what we wanted to do and he wanted us to jointly pay and settle amongst ourselves. We wasted almost 40 minutes on this. Once we got going, it was wonderful and I liked the options I selected. I would book this tour again but suggest you enhance the payment process.
The mini mercedes van was great. Very comfortable. We purchased our tickets at the private entrance which was nice and saw Chichen Itza at our own pace which allowed us to avoid the large tour groups. The private hospitality suite was in reality just a little cabin. No drinks or anything else advertised. No lockers.
The pickup and drop-off timings were confusing. The driver did not do a very good job of communicating what the plan was. We were never sure what exactly was happening and what order my group was in for pickup and drop-off. We wended up going to Playa del Carmen resort area first on the way back to drop off other members in the van group. Originally we thought the tour van would only be servicing people in Cancun hotel area, but thats not the case. Our return trip put us back 45 min because of the Playa del Carmen drop off.
The tour was excellent. Get the guide its worth it 100.
They no longer let you touch any of the ruins. That is a recent change and quite a let down. It was fairly expensive to enter the park.
