Booked the day before we went. Picked us up from the hotel at 7am and we were back by 330pm. Comfortable bus, great tour guides, excellent trip!!
This was a great trip through Amigo Tours via Viator. Samuel and Marcus shared their knowledge and passion. We normally would book through the travel company but this trip was half the price and more than worth it. We would definitely use them again. Thank you for a wonderful experience and sharing the history of your country.
Amazing place. Beautiful architecture. The guide was very knowledgable about the Mayan city and culture. I have long wanted to visit this site and your tour was just the ticket to experience the site and learn about Mayan culture.
We had an amazing trip to Chichen Itza. Our tour guide was Samuel. He was very funny and knowledgeable. He took the time during the trip to teach us about the Mayan civilization on our way there showing us many things that won't describe here so you can discover it on your own.
Samuel engaged people to participate but more importantly shows us a very interesting world total different from ours nowadays.
If you are the kind of person you don't like crowded places, this is the tour for you. My wife and I had plenty of time to go around by ourselves to take photos and buy souvenirs. There were only few groups that it felt we had the place only for us. We left around 12:15pm and by that time, the place was getting crowded but we were leaving.
We did not hit traffic on our there or back and we got back to the hotel at 2:30pm. We rested on the bus so we had plenty of time and energy to do more stuff during the day. We really liked it a lot. Very informational and convenient. We highly recommend this tour!
Very early morning tour and worth it being no crowds when we arrived.
On improvement side, driver for pick up was late and left but did NOT leave instructions on how to catch main bus for tour. We made it by calling main number. Instructions on voucher were incorrect on bus pick up location.
This tour was arranged through Amigotours, with our English speaking Archaeologist Marco, he opened our minds to what the Mayan people had managed to achieve especially their mathematics and understanding of the universe especially the way the year was broken up into astrological events. Getting to the site early was definitely a bonus as it was so easy to move around and take in the sure scale of the ruins. My only criticisms on the tour, were we hadn't been informed that it was a 3 and a half hour drive to the site from Cancun, making it 7 hours on a coach. This was was further compounded by an additional half hour lay over in Puerto Cancun awaiting a feeder bus, which is something Amigo tours need to address to be a bit more slicker.
Marco was an excellent guide. It was great to arrive so early and miss the crowds and heat.

This was a great tour to beat the crowd. Bus pick us up at exactly 5:15 am at our hotel. We had to make a stop to pick up other people. Bus was clean and comfortable, slept going to Chichen itza and had a washroom stop in between. Our tour guide Frank was knowledgeable and funny. The tour was too hot we did some sight seeing on our own, and had one hr to grab lunch while waiting for the meeting time. Brown bag was given for sandwich, juice and banana, included in the tour. And cold bottle water were provided going back to the bus.
The tour was brilliant. Would highly recommend. Frank was great - super knowledgeable and good sense of humour! Thanks also to our driver Jacinto! We were picked up at 5am from our resort, they let us sleep for the first hour or so and then for the second half of the bus journey we got lots of information and background about the Mayan people. It was really interesting.
We also got a lunch included - a sandwich, banana, juice box and snack bar.
Everything Frank said was true - we were one of the first tours to arrive, Chichen Itza wasn't hot, it was super super super hot, and when we left there were loads and loads of people arriving. The early access tour is definitely a great idea - and we're so glad we did it.
You can hire umbrellas to help protect from the sun. Make sure you take sun cream and wear loose clothing! It's a sweaty day! There is a cafe, a snack bar and a shop at the entrance to Chichen Itza, so you can buy stuff there. There's also lots of vendors there selling souvenirs.
Thank you so much Frank and Viator - we really enjoyed the trip, it was really interesting and would definitely recommend to others. Another Wonder of the World ticked off the bucket list! :
The tour was amazing! The guide is very knowledgeable and interesting, and I wouldn and #39;t have done it any other way. We would have missed out on a lot of interesting facts about this incredible place without the guide. Overall, the tour is very affordable for what you get out of it. Definitely worth it
This is an early start but well worth doing as the hoards of people entering when we were leaving was over whelming! Once we arrived, it felt like we had the place to ourselves and the guide was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Please be warned...the humidity was overwhelming!!! you'll sweat the moment you leave the air conditioned coach so carry plenty of water and wear light clothing and hats.
Worth it to get up early and beat the crowds to the site. Our guide Marco from Amigo Tours was excellent and gave us great explanations of the inscriptions, carving, and construction. Box lunch a little disappointing, but who cares? It was a great day!
This was an amazing opportunity and I was delighted I was able to learn so much about the Mayan culture I may have never had the chance to learn without this tour. Frank was so passionate about the Mayan culture and took time to listen to everyone's questions and share his knowledge with everyone interested in learning more about the Mayan culture. His enthusiasm and appreciation of the Mayan culture was infectious and I walked away pleased with being about to see something so monumental to this world and have more knowledge about the people who graced the world with it.
Really worth getting up early, beat the crowds and the heat and back to relax around 3pm at hotel. Marco was a great tour leader, with lots of Mayan information. This site you need a tour leader to give the information on the site. Would not have enjoyed just looking at the ruins, the information was amazing. The Mayans were so clever people.
Marco is an excellent tour guide who has an in-depth knowledge of the Mayan history and culture. He will explain every symbol and history related to Chichen Itza very thoroughly. He and #39;s very passionate at what he does and is very sincere. The tour also picks you up from your hotel.
This was a great tour! Very educational and a bit entertaining. Carlos was a courteous and careful driver Marco was thoroughly knowledgeable about the site, with a bit of humor added. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
If you are looking to do more in Mexico, this is the tour you want to join. This is a early access tour which means you will be done and back to the hotel by 3:00pm. It is must must less crowded in the morning and you will still have rest of the day to do other activities. We hopped on the Jungle Tour right after, LOL. Our guide Marco was great and I learned Mayan history much from him than Mr Tsoukalos. His perspective on why Mayan abandoned their cities was different than many and was interesting. If you do book this tour, ask for Marco for sure.
1. I love how simple booking is via Viator. All the info you need is directly on your receipt/ticket. We have used them before for trips to the UK and Europe.
Marco the guide Carlos the Driver I give them a thumbs up
2. Our tour guide Marco was unbelievably knowledgeable in the Mayan culture and in the ruins of Chichen Itza. During the first hour of our drive he let us nap, the second hour he explained the Mayan culture, language and history. I was so enthralled by the information and his passion on the subject matter that I took notes on my phone. I didn't want to miss out on anything he was sharing with us. One of the best parts of this tour is that we beat the crowds. It felt like we had the grounds all to our selves. Once we arrived they broke us up into two groups an English tour and a Spanish tour. Luckily for us Marco led the English group, but we would have gone along with him if he had led the Spanish group. He was very humble, it wasn't until the very end that he explained the reason behind what we perceived to be solely passion. Not only is he passionate on the subject he is well educated with a Masters in the field. He was very detailed with what he shared. One would assume that doing this type of work day in and day out they would lose interest and passion. Not so with Marco. Marco gladly answered any and all questions we had. I found him so interesting that I would have loved to hear more of what he had to share.
If you're on the fence on which tour to take, take this one. You won't be disappointed.
3. The only negative comment I have is when we booked our hotel pickup the day before the tour from our hotel we were told we would be picked up at 5:00 am. I asked if that was the latest we could be picked up and the lady said yes. Pickup will be at 5:00 am. We woke up at 4 to be ready for pickup in the lobby by 5, but we didn't get picked up until after 6am : But we did not let this minor hiccup ruin our experience.
Very good tour! Early access is the best way, beat the tour bus crowds. Our tour guide,Marco was very knowledgeable.
I visited Chichen Itza last week and would highly recommend the trip to anyone on holiday in the region. We opted for the early trip 5:15am pickup but this was definitely the right move because when we arrived at Chichen Itza it was very quiet but when we were leaving just before midday it was packed full of tourists - we also avoided some of the extreme heat! We were driven by Ramon and our tour guide was Marco - both were great! Marco was an excellent guide - his English was flawless, he was very knowledgeable about Chichen Itza he said he's been taking tours there for 21 years and he made the day a lot of fun - we really enjoyed the day!
Marco and Jacinto were awesome. Marco was very knowledgeable and explained everything very clearly. I would recommend this tour to everybody! Chichen Itza is an AMAZING place!!!
Amazing! Such a wonderful experience despite the early start. The air conditioned bus took us swiftly to the site during which Marcos, our brilliant guide from Amigo tours, explained the history and what we would see. We arrived around 9am and began our tour before the crowds and the heat arrived. After walking around as a group we had time to roam on our own before heading back to Cancun just as the crowds starting piling in! Fascinating site accompanied by lots of little stalls selling crafts. Would recommend taking an umbrella - not for the rain but as protection from the heat even in the early morning although you can hire them on arrival - and plenty of water. Brilliant tour and well worth getting up early.
We had such an amazing time and would highly recommend this trip for all visitors to Cancun. Our Guide- Marco, and our driver- Carlos, collected us on Wednesday morning last at 05.25hrs from our Hotel. They left us all in peace for about another hour until everyone woke up properly. Marco has a real passion for this tour and is a Fantastic Bi Lingual Guide. We all felt included and he increased our interest in Chichen Itza and the Mayan History with his super knowledge. We loved that we got to the site early so that we avoided the large lunchtime crowds and also the lunchtime heat! We had a really awesome time- and would highly suggest this tour!
So worthwhile! You get there before everyone else and when the day is much cooler. Right when we left the whole place was just swamped with people. I can't say enough about our tour guide Frank. He knew so much about these structures and was able to make Chichen Itza come alive. You could tell how passionate he was about Mayan history. I would definitely recommend visiting Chichen Itza through Amigo Tours!
