Excellent trip! Marco was personable and knowledgeable. He has studied Mayan culture.
The box lunch was minimal. The juice, banana, and candy were fine. I didnt eat the sandwich because it had not been refrigerated all day. My husband ate both mine and his, though, and suffered no ill effects.
I can't imagine a better tour than this. Frank was an excellent host on the bus ride to and from Chichen Itza and Marco was an extremely knowledgeable and interesting tour guide. I thought that the crowds at Chichen Itza would take away from the experience, but there were very few people there when we arrived and this tour ended up being the highlight of my entire trip.
The bus picked us up at 5:15 am and we changed to a different bus around 6:30 am. A breakfast bag, which includes a simple sandwich, a juice box, a banana and a small candy bar, was provided. We stopped for restroom around 7 am and then it's another 2.5 hours to Chichen Itza. Our guide, Marco, was really great. This was the second time I've visited the place and I can say Marco was much better than the guide I had the first time.
We were back to the hotel around 3:45 pm. It's a great trip and amigo tour did a great job arranging everything.
It is a very interesting experience. History comes to you.
Everything went ok.
Enjoyed very much. Wished we could have stayed longer to wander around the additional sites and eat at the lovely restaurant. the box lunch provided was meager. It served better as a breakfast as we had to get picked up before there was time to eat. Suggest bringing an umbrella to provide some shade as it is very hot.
our guide was Frank and our driver was Lucio. Frank was fantastic, very knowledgeable and made this visit very interesting. Going early was the way to go. Even though we had to get up so early, it was worth it. I would recommend this to anyone.
Fantastic experience. I am so glad i chose this version if the tour. It starts early, you nap on the bus, and we got there literally first. By the time we left, there was swarms of people starting to show up. Marco, the guide, was spectacular, passionate, and organized.
Thanks to the family that we met at the airport in Cancun for recommending Viator and the EARLY tour !We can't begin to tell you how privileged my wife and I were to have Marco Solis archaeologist and anthropologist as our tour guide on November 23,2016. It's apparent that he fell in love with Chiche'n Itza as a small boy and that love guided him through his life - on to College to seek his Master's degree and then share the wealth of knowledge he possesses in such a way that YOU feel his passion and want to learn more about the Mayan culture. He is truly a gem and this was one of our BEST tours in the many places that we've traveled around the world!! Be SURE and book the EARLY tour and hopefully you will have Marco as your guide request him IF you can!!
Tour was amazing! Definitely take the early tour to get to the site before anyone else. Amigo tours was great, efficient and very knowledgable. Carlos and Marcos were great!
Carlos and Frank were awesome. Carlos was such a great driver and Frank was extremely informative in his discussions of the Mayan culture and Chichen Itza. We were picked up shortly after 5am from our hotel in the Hotel Zone, and were allowed to sleep for the two hour drive. We arrived at Chichen Itza at opening and found ourselves admiring the ruins with no one else around. This is the BEST way to see Chichen Itza. Bring sunscreen -- it's hot, even in mid-November. Overall, an amazing tour.

1. Small backpacks only
2. They charge to bring video cameras in.
3. Phones, gopros, and professional cameras are allowed in at no additional cost. NO TRIPODS
4. They do sell food and drinks inside and outside the park.
Carlos the driver and Frank the tour guide were amazing. It is about 2.5 hours from Cancun to Chichen Itza. There are no bathrooms on the bus, but we did make a stop for restrooms about 30 mins in. Bring sunscreen, bug spray and comfortable shoes. You have the option of staying with the group or going on your own. I would recommend staying with the group because out guide was of Myan descent, and he knew a lot about Myan culture. The bag lunch was a sandwich, juice, banana, and granola bar. When we first got to the park Frank gave us 15 mins. to take photos before the crowds started arriving. Over 15,000 people come to Chichen Itza a day, so this is why early access is crucial because we got there before the crowds and the heat of the day. We were picked up at out hotel at 5:30 am and arrived back at 3:10 pm. Once we got to Chichen Itza we were divided into groups based on language. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
Our tour November 2016 to Chichen Itza was amazing. Our guide, Marco, was entertaining and very informative and he made our visit more than just a sightseeing event. During our bus ride, Marco presented some Mayan history and background of the site - in English and Spanish. While at Chichen Itza, his presentations were more than just explanations as he made each temple and building come alive with simple demonstrations.
We were picked up from our resort, north of Cancun proper, on time and the bus ride to Chichen Itza was comfortable.
The early access option beat the crowds and the heat. It was a good choice for us.
Wonderful time. Highly recommended.
Have a wonderful time!!Next time I will choose viator again.
Excellent tour. Pick up, transportation and guide explanations perfects. I strongly recommend
Frank was a great tour guide and the overall experience was great. Frank knew the culture and knew how to give the tour in a way that kept us all interested. I learned so much that day and was engaged the whole time. You definitely want to do the early morning departure so that you arrive before the crowds get there they do or before it gets super hot which it does. My only complaint would be the pick-up process in the morning.
As a suggestion to the company - The bus was 20 minutes late for pick up and we didn't know what was happening. Calling the number was of no help either. I understand the pick-up times change due to how many other hotels are in the group and their location. Maybe send out an email / text message the night before giving a pick-up time window? Or even call the hotel and have them deliver the message to the guest? You should know the night before how many stops you have and how long they will take. It's a bad way to start off what turns into a great experience.
Booked the day before we went. Picked us up from the hotel at 7am and we were back by 330pm. Comfortable bus, great tour guides, excellent trip!!
This was a great trip through Amigo Tours via Viator. Samuel and Marcus shared their knowledge and passion. We normally would book through the travel company but this trip was half the price and more than worth it. We would definitely use them again. Thank you for a wonderful experience and sharing the history of your country.
Amazing place. Beautiful architecture. The guide was very knowledgable about the Mayan city and culture. I have long wanted to visit this site and your tour was just the ticket to experience the site and learn about Mayan culture.
We had an amazing trip to Chichen Itza. Our tour guide was Samuel. He was very funny and knowledgeable. He took the time during the trip to teach us about the Mayan civilization on our way there showing us many things that won't describe here so you can discover it on your own.
Samuel engaged people to participate but more importantly shows us a very interesting world total different from ours nowadays.
If you are the kind of person you don't like crowded places, this is the tour for you. My wife and I had plenty of time to go around by ourselves to take photos and buy souvenirs. There were only few groups that it felt we had the place only for us. We left around 12:15pm and by that time, the place was getting crowded but we were leaving.
We did not hit traffic on our there or back and we got back to the hotel at 2:30pm. We rested on the bus so we had plenty of time and energy to do more stuff during the day. We really liked it a lot. Very informational and convenient. We highly recommend this tour!
Very early morning tour and worth it being no crowds when we arrived.
On improvement side, driver for pick up was late and left but did NOT leave instructions on how to catch main bus for tour. We made it by calling main number. Instructions on voucher were incorrect on bus pick up location.
This tour was arranged through Amigotours, with our English speaking Archaeologist Marco, he opened our minds to what the Mayan people had managed to achieve especially their mathematics and understanding of the universe especially the way the year was broken up into astrological events. Getting to the site early was definitely a bonus as it was so easy to move around and take in the sure scale of the ruins. My only criticisms on the tour, were we hadn't been informed that it was a 3 and a half hour drive to the site from Cancun, making it 7 hours on a coach. This was was further compounded by an additional half hour lay over in Puerto Cancun awaiting a feeder bus, which is something Amigo tours need to address to be a bit more slicker.
Marco was an excellent guide. It was great to arrive so early and miss the crowds and heat.

This was a great tour to beat the crowd. Bus pick us up at exactly 5:15 am at our hotel. We had to make a stop to pick up other people. Bus was clean and comfortable, slept going to Chichen itza and had a washroom stop in between. Our tour guide Frank was knowledgeable and funny. The tour was too hot we did some sight seeing on our own, and had one hr to grab lunch while waiting for the meeting time. Brown bag was given for sandwich, juice and banana, included in the tour. And cold bottle water were provided going back to the bus.
The tour was brilliant. Would highly recommend. Frank was great - super knowledgeable and good sense of humour! Thanks also to our driver Jacinto! We were picked up at 5am from our resort, they let us sleep for the first hour or so and then for the second half of the bus journey we got lots of information and background about the Mayan people. It was really interesting.
We also got a lunch included - a sandwich, banana, juice box and snack bar.
Everything Frank said was true - we were one of the first tours to arrive, Chichen Itza wasn't hot, it was super super super hot, and when we left there were loads and loads of people arriving. The early access tour is definitely a great idea - and we're so glad we did it.
You can hire umbrellas to help protect from the sun. Make sure you take sun cream and wear loose clothing! It's a sweaty day! There is a cafe, a snack bar and a shop at the entrance to Chichen Itza, so you can buy stuff there. There's also lots of vendors there selling souvenirs.
Thank you so much Frank and Viator - we really enjoyed the trip, it was really interesting and would definitely recommend to others. Another Wonder of the World ticked off the bucket list! :
