A great educational experience! Marcos was very imformative! A must do if you visit the area. Go at a time of year though when not too hot . We went in February and it already got a little warm.
great tour! Beware, there's not a ton of shade to hide in if you go when it's hot out so make sure you are prepared. There are little stalls set up selling crafts, etc. in the available shade. You will definitely learn a lot about the architecture of Chichen Itza and why it's so special. Worth it all around.
I can not recommend this trip enough! It might be an early pick up, but you get to skip the line for tickets, get better pictures (the sun/lighting is amazing during this time), it’s not as crowded, and it’s not nearly as hot. Our tour guide Frank and driver Carlos were incredible! Thank you!
Tour was outstanding. Our guide amazing with the local lore and history. We truly enjoyed the day.
We were picked up on time at our hotel at 5:20am in the morning and our bus was the first one to arrive at Chichen Itza. Not much to see en-route to Chichen Itza so we were gald we took this tour instead of driving ourselves. Both my wife and I were able to take a nap on the 2.5 hours trip. Having early access definitely has its benefits...weather is not as hot, we are able to take plenty of good photos. Like a few other reviews on this site...I was first skeptical on the tour description of a private Archaeologist. But my skepticism was unfounded. Marco, our private tour guide and Archaeologist was knowledgeable, professional and passionate about the Mayan civilization and history. I have learned interesting facts from Macro that made this trip so much more fun and exciting. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Chichen Itza for the first time. I hope you too, will have Marco as your Private Archaeologist.
My wife and I were quite interested in seeing the Mayan Pyramid and other structures. I also brought 2 nieces and a nephew along, ages 18-24. All five of us enjoyed this trip more than we ever expected. We took the early morning option with a Private Archelogist. By all means, take the early morning option with private Archelogist option! A bus picked us up at about 6AM at our resort. Marco was our Archelogist. Marco gave us a very good briefing about the Mayan civilization before arriving at Chichen Itza. We visited the major historic structures throughout the area. Marco told us many interesting facts about what used to happen here. He was very knowledgable about the amazing accoustic properties of these structures as well as telling us what the wall carvings were depicting. Facinating stuff. I was astounded by what we learned. The Mayans were pretty incredible people. I felt we got a very good value for my money. I highly recommend this tour for everyone. I observed other tourist groups and they were not getting any information like Marco was giving us. Also, if you go later in the day, you'll be packed in with hundreds of other tourist and Chichen Itza can get really hot in the summer months. We went in early February, it was nice. I can't express enough how much we enjoyed this tour and that it was such a great value. We will do it again next time.
Awesome! Of all the cool things we saw, did, and ate in Cancun this was the best. Marco was our guide and was the biggest part of why this tour was so great. The site and culture are absolutely fascinating, and Marco's deep knowledge brought it alive for us. Even the lunch they provided was fantastic. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. I'll likely go again next time in Cancun. Don't miss this one.
Fantastic tour! My group said, hands down, the best tour and tour guide they have ever had! The early access is necessary. When we arrived we were some of the first people at the site, but when we were leaving the place was as packed as Disneyland! It's such a fantastic and historic site, being able to see it without throngs of other tourists bumping into you just makes it that much more magical. Plus you can really feel the history seeping from the stones when you're standing there in awe. That said, our guide Marco was out of this world amazing! He was so well versed on the site and the people and knew how to turn all the facts and history into an engaging and stimulating experience. If I could give him 10 starts right now I definitely would. I learned so much from this tour, it was a once in a lifetime kind of experience!
We took the early, early tour option. It was so worth the exclusive time, prior to the large crowds. Frank was our guide on the bus and allowed us to sleep 80 of the way and saved his speeches and knowledge to about 1/2 an hour away from Chichen Itza which was nice. He had to say everything thing twice, once in English and once in Spanish. It gave time for some background information. Marco the guide who toured us at the site spoke all in English and the Spanish guests divided into a separate tour which was great! Marco was professionally knowledgeable about the history and archeology with a keen eye. I was very impressed with him! We would highly recommend this tour.
The ratings and reviews of this tour are spot on. We are English speaking and our guide Marco was excellent. I assumed the term Archaeologist was grossly overstated, but I couldn't have been more wrong about that. The bus is sub-par if you're over 6 feet tall, but still an awesome trip!!
Marco was an amazing guide. It's definitely worth getting up early to beat the crowds there. Overall an amazing experience.
Well worth getting up early, missed the crowds, almost had the place to ourselves. Fantastic site to visit with a very informative guide. Well worth the money.
Excellent experience. Our guide, Marco, was not only extremely knowledgeable about the subject, but spoke of Mayan history with great passion. An incredible guide. Sharing this Mayan temple complex with a very small number of people enhanced our experience. Skip the crowds and go early.
I had a great trip, Marco our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. I learned so much. After we had lunch which was great. I would highly recommend this tour, ask for Marco as your guide if you can.
Excellent all around. Knowledgeable and good commucators. Comfortable ride. Very considerate of all of our needs. Would highly recommend and based on my listening to some of other tour guides as we passed by other groups, it is definitely worth an archeologist if those facts and insight are important my family live for this!.
I am so glad I booked the tour with the private archaeologist. It would not have been the same without him. It still would have been an amazing site but my family learned much more about the site than anticipated. Even my 10 year old son was in awe of everything we were learning. Just fascinating, a must see. Frank was our guide, really nice, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We had a bit of a mishap at the start of our trip I take part of the blame. It is a very early start and our pick up from our hotel was scheduled for 6:30 am. Our ride was still not there at 645 am. We started to panic and tried to find a number to call. I mistakenly did not print the last confirmation sheet that had the contact number for the day of the trip which I should of. We managed to find it and my husband was able to contact someone. There was a clerical error for a few pick ups for a few different hotels. They asked us to take a tax from our hotel to the meeting site for the tour bus we passed the phone off to our concierge at the hotel to arrange this in Spanish!. Once we arrived at the meeting site our tour guide paid our taxi fare. I was very impressed with the tour bus we had, it was brand new and very comfortable. After a brief introduction we all closed our eyes and took a nap for the next two hours! We had a buffet lunch before our return home enough choices to fill you up or tie you over until you return to your hotel. There is also a gift shop located at the lunch location. Overall a wonderful experience, I highly recommend visiting Chichen Itza with a knowledgeable guide.
Our guide was a descendant of Mayas. His explanations about the history of Chichen Itza were excellent! I would also recommend to include the guided tour to the most ancient part of this archeological site, including the Observatory.
This tour is definitely worth getting up early because you get to beat the afternoon crowds.. Our tour guide was Marco he was funny, engaging and very knowledgeable. At the site you split into groups based on language preference...Elda was our guide through the site and she was great !
Our day started out early, but the trip was well worth it. You will be amongst the first people to arrive at Chichen Itza at 9am-ish, which is great if you want to beat the crowds and walk around while it's still relatively cool outside. Our private archaeologist, Marco, was an incredibly engaging guide. He is very well-versed in the history of the area, and shared amazing anecdotes with us while walking throughout the site. There was never a boring moment. After the tour, you'll be taken to a nearby resort where you can enjoy a lunch buffet. Food is covered in the cost of the tour, but drinks must be paid for separately. If you are planning to visit Chichen Itza, I highly recommend booking with Viator and getting Marco as a tour guide.
Our guide Marco was incredibly knowledgeable and had so much interesting information to share. Marco has an archeology degree and pointed out many features of the carvings and architecture at the site.
The bus was comfortable and air conditioned and we were glad we took the early entry tour to beat the crowds and the heat of the day. There were huge queues by the time we were leaving for lunch.
Would definitely recommend this tour!
This excursion was a must do for my 2 history buff teenagers. We were not disappointed. The tour guide Super Frank and driver Ramone were fantastic. We appreciated learning about Chichen Itza from a Mayan descendent. Lunch was amazing buffet at a Mayan restaurant. A highlight of our vacation.
