This raft and rail adventure begins at Echo Canyon’s rafting check-in area. Meet and greet the guide, then take a short ride to the Royal Gorge Route Depot near historic downtown Canon City. Enjoy a scenic, 2-hour train ride through the Royal Gorge, located at the base of 1,000-foot canyon walls. Experience the engineering wonder of the world-famous Royal Gorge Bridge and catch a glimpse of whitewater rafting in action while traveling along the Arkansas River.
Select from two different seating options: Coach or Vista Dome.
Coach offers reserved seating for the duration of the trip and also the option to walk outside to the open cars. Snacks are available from the dining car. Alternatively, Vista Dome offers reserved seating in historic train cars with famed, domed glass ceilings. These cars provide a fabulous view of the Royal Gorge with comfortable, plush seating. Also, Vista Dome ticket holders may order from a full menu of delicious meals and are welcome to walk outside to the open cars at will.
After the Royal Gorge Route Railroad experience, head back to Echo Canyon and the 8-Mile Bar and Grill. Relax and enjoy a delicious lunch (own expense) served on a scenic patio overlooking the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Then, prepare for the whitewater rafting portion of the trip by obtaining safety and splash gear — if and when it's necessary, based on that day's weather conditions. Take to the water without fear. This beginner's excursion is perfect for families or groups looking for a whitewater rafting trip that provides mild challenges with plenty of calm. It's suitable for kids as young as three, four, or five years of age.
The tour concludes with transportation back to the rafting office.
