Traveler Tips

If you plan to do the hike, and not ride the bus down, WEAR APPROPRIATE SHOES!
Much prefer the large bus experience for view and comfort over smaller vans.
I would say there is perhaps too long spent at the lighthouse / lunch at the cape - I would have preferred a longer hike or more time with the penguins.

Amazing tour
Yuqi_R, Mar 2023
Amazing tour! Our tour guide Glenn was awesome, gave us a really good idea of the history, wildlife and fun facts. All of us enjoyed the tour.
Great large group tour
Luke_C, Mar 2023
A really great big bus tour. This isn’t a personal experience, but for a large group this was executed really well and I had a great time. The guide was knowledgeable and did try to speak to each guest to make it more personal. Very reasonably priced and a great experience overall.
Turned out to be a Safari

In Cape point national Park we saw so much wildlife and the scenic drive along the coast was memorable. Our guide Charles gave us interesting information

Beautiful scenery at the Cape. The guide was excellent supported by pleasant staff. The restaurant we were taken to was overlooking a beautiful beach and we had reservations booked for us. It was extremely busy at the penguins but lots to see.
Excellent Cape Point and Boulder Beach Excursion
Edmee_R, Feb 2023
Excellent excursion. The bus that took us to the coast was extremely nice. The tour guide provided commentary all along the way. He was funny and knowledgeable. The driver was mindful, so the ride was very pleasant. We first went to the Penguin Park, then lunch. If you did not want to do lunch, you could walk around the beach, where you could see more penguins and even get a light snack. From there we went to Cape Point. We were given lots of time to hike up to the point or take the tram and walk around. From the point, there was a guided hike to Cape of Good Hope if anyone wanted to do the hike. It was excellent. Those that did not want to do the hike were driven to the Cape. Overall, excellent experience of the Peninsula. Highly recommend.
Brilliant day out to see the penguins and down to the Cape.
Rosemary_B, Feb 2023
Excellent day trip to the Cape. Wonderful to see so many penguins in their natural environment. Narration on the bus was excellent, as was the driver. Female assistant was very helpful and well informed. Couldn't fault the trip in any way. I would highly recommend.
A very good well organised tour
Monica_B, Feb 2023
The tour was well organised with an excellent lead guide plus assistant and driver. The drive itself was interesting and we saw everything promised and expected. The optional hike was well worth doing.
PERFECT!

WONDERFUL DAY! Great tour guides! So detailed and prompt! Very attentive guides! Perfect drive! I don't mind booking this again in future!
Left it alright
John_W, Feb 2023
Worth spending a day and remitting every Rand. Skip paying for the penguins. Crowded and you see them closer on boardwalk and at the free beach. Do both hikes at point, take funicular up if you don’t like climbing. Beware the last downhill on the way back to the bus. Spectacular tour start to finish

Tomini_F, Jan 2023
Beautiful tour and scenery. One of a kind trip. The tour guide made some biased / controversial comments about South African history however. Would have appreciated a holistic, inclusive and progressive approach celebrating the rainbow nation.
Great trip!
Tania_M, Jan 2023
Charles and the team made the trip a great experience. The views were beautiful and it was lovely to see the penguins.
Tour to Cape Point
Methuna_R, Jan 2023
Great tour! Saw many wildlife and also great hike down. Comfortable and gripped shoes are a must! Great company and excellent restaurant for lunch. Penguin boardwalk was pricey and underwhelming as we can are far from them. Line ups are long so purchase fast passes if you are not with the tour. In addition there was not enough time for the beach. Overall great experience!

An industry
Anas_d, Dec 2022
I did this tour, but we have to pay more and more. You have to add 170R for pinguins. It’s not a group of 15 but 35 (big bus). It’s like an industry. You can’t go down in Muzeinberg ou Cheapman… The only good point was the guides.
Response from Host, Dec 2022
Thanks for the review. The tour is advertised as a double deck bus tour.I am not sure where you got 15 passengers from? It also VERY clearly tells you the inclusions and exclusions. Penguins can be viewed without paying on Seaforth beach if your lucky, but if you go into the enclosure, a gate fee applies. Glad you enjoyed the quality of the guide
Way exceeded expectations

The baboons! The ostriches! The penguins! The dassies! The hike! And the drop dead gorgeous scenery. Charles, our guide, did a fine job of educating us on the history, geology, ecology, and oceanography of this beautiful place. I don’t do tours usually but I was delighted to be on this one.
Well performed tour

Nice tour in a double decker bus, very comfortable with very good and humorous guide. Affordable too.
PR Fail, Good for Those Who Like Being Herded
Trevor_O, Oct 2022
I booked this on Viator not knowing it was the Big Red Bus tour. I thought it was a smaller tour I booked. I stood at the stop on time (early) and no one came out from the bus to ask my name before it left. Kyle the young man was negligent in accounting for me as I was right beside the bus as it pulled away. The company has pointed fingers at me saying this was 100% my fault. I can accept part of this responsibility but this could have been solved before this was an issue. I was able to join the tour after taking a 335 Rand Uber journey to their first stop. This definitely left a poor feeling the rest of the journey. However, some more objective feedback. 1. Brand was a great guide, full of knowledge, engaging and with humour. 2. Kyle was severely negligent in solving a problem before it became one. 3. This tour is definitely rushed. There is time to explore but there is the constant reminder to hurry. I understand this as there are a lot of people. I recommend this tour for those who are inexperienced travellers. If you are a seasoned traveller, make sure to book a smaller tour as you will be able to stop more often and photograph flora, fauna and animals when it’s not at a stop. There’s nothing worse than having to take photos of a beautiful place through a moving bus window. The company failed me, horrible PR by Mandy Jarman. Kyle cost me an extra 335 Rand. Take this tour if you are ok with large groups with minimal stops within limited time. If you don’t like being rushed, opt for a smaller tour with added chances for quick stops enabling a more intimate experience with the wildlife and landscape.

Hi Trevor. Thank you for your review which appears to be a poor reflection of our tour. You seem to have missed a few points. Please allow me: - "I thought it was a smaller tour": Listed on Viator where you bought your ticket under What's included is this: "Transportation in a modern, spacious double deck, air-conditioned motor-coach". Furthermore, you received a personalised email via the Viator app from us shortly after making the booking on 23/10 at 16h00 confirming the exact pick up place and time for your 24/10 tour (which was read). The last paragraph of this email reads as follows: "Stop 8: Camps Bay: Address: Beach Road - Opposite the Bay Hotel. Time: 08:55. At the pick-up point please look for a “City Sightseeing” branded bus stop. Be sure to be there 5 minutes before the listed departure time and keep a look out for a red coloured CAPE EXPLORER tour coach" So I am not sure how you could imagine to be on a small group tour? - "I stood at the stop on time (early)": The on-bus camera system which includes cameras on the outside clearly shows the bus stop empty at time of departure. With the above information surely it would not have been difficult to spot the only red double deck bus on the beachfront? - The tour is rushed": No other tour spends the amount of time at the Penguins and Cape Point/Cape of Good Hope as ours does. Do our guides issue clear departure time information? For sure as we have different nationalities and want to make sure everybody has a good time. Brahm, Kyle and Mandi are long standing and very pro-active members of our crew. Nobody is more flexible and service oriented than Mandi in assisting customers in need when its justified. We carry many happy travellers every day and seldom if ever have such issues. I really think that this is a case of sour grapes for missing the bus at the bus stop in Camps bay (where it left exactly as advertised and we had advised you of) and having had to Uber to Simonstown to catch up. If you prefer being squashed with up to 12 other passengers in a microbus under the guise of a 'small group tour' then please feel free. We stand proudly by our product which offers a spacious tour coach with big vista windows, top quality guides, super quality service from dedicated members of staff, great value for money and lots of free time at the key locations. And I apologise in advance if this is another PR fail in your opinion but I really don't believe your criticism is valid and will happily stand up for my team.

Lovely day trip with King Charles
Kathy_B, Oct 2022
The day started off well organised and I felt comfortable that I was going to have a good day. The bus was jam packed and I would have preferred a few less people in a group.. but not really an issue. The only thing to improve is to allow more time on the walk at the Cape so people can take pictures etc. Charles and the team were terrific!
Great trip

Fantastic time watching the penguins play in the water their speed and acceleration is fantastic. The walk up to the light house is on a good path and is quite easy. We enjoyed the walk around the cliff tops. We saw several Eland,Ostriches, and Baboons. The baboon seemed intimidating but nothing eventuated.
