Embark on a leisurely day-tour of the Cape Winelands from South Africa's Cape Town, with stops in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. Enjoy a series of wine tastings at three different vineyards, including a master tasting pairing 8 wines and cheeses. Along the way you'll experience spectacular scenery, including stunning mountain views and some incredible examples of Cape Dutch and Victorian architecture. Have your camera ready for a brief stop at Drakenstein Prison, where former SA President Nelson Mandela served time.
We had a superb day trip while on our honeymoon touring the winelands with Elegant Country tours. Our guide, Fanny, was lovely- we were blown away by her warmth, knowledge, and kindness, and she spent the day driving us to some absolutely gorgeous vineyards. A beautiful day with excellent company and wine- what more could you ask for? Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore the winelands while visiting Capetown.
Wonderful day out. Fanny was charming, engaging and full of interesting facts. We even received an extra whistle stop wine tasting experience and Fanny made a reservation at a restaurant that served the best steak ever. Fabulous day out and highly recommended.
Ivan was a wonderful, friendly and extremely knowledgeable guide. The scenary and wineries are gorgeous and the wines are delicious. Definitely a great day tour to see a variety of the wine region.
We had a great day! Our tour guide Cristo was amazing...as it was only two of us on the tour, he was flexible and accommodating with our schedule. This tour is a definite must if you like great wine, food, scenery, and a knowledgeable and friend guide.
The private tour of the Cape area was truly fantastic from every perspective. Ivan Le Kay was an unusually knowledgeable, accommodating and flexible guide. We were fortunate to have him as our guide for the wine tour as well--another memorable trip. Please feel free to post this online. Ralph and Synn
We had a wonderful day touring the Winelands. Our tour guide, Ivan, was knowledgeable, friendly, laid back and patient. He tailored our itinerary to suit out needs and was a wonderful ambassador for this region and for the tour. We would highly recommend this tour to others.
Went great ! Had a super day. Driver and guide Ray took us to several wineries and other places of interest. Very flexible around the designated places so felt it was a very personal tour.
Timely, air conditioned, knowledgeable, understandable. Had a great day. Didn't need to drive so tastings went well.
Another very good tour with some excellent vineyards
Our tour guide, Fanny, led us through the most gorgeous wine estates! Having only done one wine tasting class in New York and one modest tasting in Pennsylvania, I looked forward to seeing multiple wineries and vineyards in a single day. Because we had selected a Monday tour, our locations were partially influenced by availability, not that we would have noticed, given the superb quality of where we'd be taken that day, both for our eyes and palates.
Fanny picked us up from our AirBnB in the morning, we headed straight to our first location at Lanzerac Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. We selected a set of five: two whites sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, three reds merlot, pinotage, and cab, many award-winning. No foods accompanied the tasting. We gave especially close attention to the pinotage, given it to be a South African specialty and one harder to find in the U.S.
Our second location sat about half an hour's drive away at Tokara. Along the way, Fanny pointed out numerous points of interest, both man-made and botanical, ranging from the hospital of the first heart transplant to the effects of eucalyptus trees in the region. She readily answered our random questions with patience and ease.
Tokara is a portmanteau of the owners' son and daughter's name. Watercolor paintings derived from wine and ink line a few hallways. Floor-to-ceiling glass overlook sample-sized and full-sized vineyards. If one peeks through certain exterior windows, massive wooden barrels can be seen, storing litres and litres of aging wine. We had greater freedom in choosing any five wines of our choice, rather than a set list at the first location, and beautiful olives supplemented our tasting. What's more, an olive oil tasting followed our wine tasting! We delightfully sampled a handful of house-grown and house-pressed olive oils, ranging from fruity to peppery, with cubed bread, occasionally dipping pieces into their homemade dukkah, a fragrant dry spice blend.
Ivan has been a fantastic wine tour guide, taking us to the award-winning wineries that produce small batches of excellent wines. The fact that he is a retired teacher, is an added bonus as he shares with valuable historical information of the sites you see along the way. Highly recommended.
