We had booked this ahead and didnt really know what to expect, as this was the first private wine tour we had taken. We had wanted something more personal than the typical group tour and booked this particular trip because it covered some of the key wine making regions we wanted to find out more about.

Our guide, Leonard, arrived punctually at 9.30 and immediately made us feel welcome, settling us into the car and outlining what we were going to be doing that day. Leonard was the perfect choice for us and we feel very privileged and lucky to have had him as our guide. He took the time to listen to what we liked and didnt like when it came to wine and gauged perfectly the choice of vineyards and their price points to suit our tastes and budget. His obvious skill and expertise allowed him to tailor the day for us to get the most out of it as we got to know each other on our way to the first vineyard. His choice of lunch venue Le Petite Ferme was inspired, we had the best lunch of our holiday that day. In fact, Id go as far as to say it was this skill and knowledge that ensured we had one of the most memorable and rewarding days of the entire trip.

Take the time to stop off in Stellenbosch for a little while too, it is beautiful and well worth the stopover.

If you are considering this trip, I would highly recommend it. It opened our eyes to the beauty of the region and the joys of SA wines, some of which we we would not have discovered otherwise.

We had a really enjoyable Winelands tour with Leonard our guide. We visited four wineries, each located in beautiful scenic locations, and had a very enjoyable time doing the wine tastings there. Thanks to Leonard's extensive knowledge about wine, and interesting information about South Africa, we both felt that we learnt a great deal as well as having a great time. We had lunch at a beautiful restaurant called La Petite Ferme. Leonard was an excellent guide and driver, we also appreciated his courtesy and punctuality, and so we have no reservations in recommending this tour with Leonard.

The tour was comprehensive and our guide, Leonard, was extremely knowledgeable about wine growing and the various vineyards and vintages. He listened carefully to what we wanted from the tour and then tailored it our expectations. The pacing was perfect and his suggestions all were well received. We also included some sightseeing at our request. The car was clean and comfortable and Leonard proved to be good and safe driver, Thoroughly recommend this tour.

We arranged this trip in order to not only sample some of the local wines for the first time, but to also get out of the city and see some of the countryside. The day long excursion was a resounding success on both counts. Our guide Shireen Endley picked us up promptly at our hotel in an upscale car and drove us to three wineries: Fairview in the Paarl area where local cheeses were paired with the wines, and Vrede en Lust in the Franschhoek area where the wines were paired with a various chocolates. We also enjoyed a delightful lunch at this second vineyard, where Shireen had worked in the past. She was the perfect guide in that she provided a rich commentary of not only the background of the wine regions, but also of the past social structure and impact of the past apartheid society and the changes that have occurred since. She introduced us to the locals at the wineries, but then allowed us to interact with these folks free of constant oversight. We also visited a Saturday market in Franschhoek, strolled through the magnificent setting of the Delaire Graff Estate, and made a final stop at another winery, which was unfortunately not available due to a private event that was being held. Nevertheless our intrepid guide furnished us with sacks of dried game meat which were to be paired with the wines. Again, it was fabulous day, thanks to Shireen -- spectacular scenery, great wines, pleasant conversation. Highly recommend this trip -- one of the best we have ever taken.

This was an amazing trip with Fannie. She picked us up at our hotel, The One and Only, in Capetown. It was a private tour with the two of us plus Fannie. We visited 3 wineries for tasting plus another winery for a French lunch that was outstanding. Fannie met us promptly at the hotel and was just delightful. She was very knowledgeable about Cape Town, all the sights on the way to the wineries, plus the wineries themselves. We would recommend Fannie as an excellent guide and a lovely day. Many good wines and fond memories of Fannie.

Our guide, Fanney was amazing. Super friendly and very informative. We were picked up from our hotel in Cape Town and driven to Winelands where we managed to stop at 4-5 different wineries, each one offering something different and unique. The tour is well organised, and she picked the most scenic place of us to have lunch just outside of Franschhoek. Throughout the tour, she was engaging and friendly and had a great knowledge of the history of the region. The wine was incredible and we even managed to have a wine and cheese pairing!

Our guide, Fanny, is amazing! She and her husband, Ivan, operate I and F Elegant Country Tours Paarl.
We had a wonderful day visiting the beautiful wine country of South Africa. Email communication ahead of time was prompt and courteous.
We first visited the beautiful Neethlingshof Estate, which dates back to 1692. Delicious wines including the Caracal, a Bordeaux-style blend.
Next, we visited Camberley Wines, a small boutique winery with five acres of vineyards. So many incredible wines here including a rare cabernet franc as well as a cab-merlot blend chosen by Lufthansa for their first class cabins 13 USD. Unreal. For something similar in the states, I would have to pay upwards of 150 to 200 for the same quality wine.
Next we went to lunch at Roca Restaurant in Franshoek and enjoyed the restauran't Dieu Donne Vineyards wine and a delicious meal - springbok and ostrich! Beautiful views!
Finally, Fairview Wine and Cheese in Paarl was our last stop. We probably could have done without the cheese at this point because we were full from lunch but it was still wonderful to compare the wines with and without the cheese.
All during our day, Fanny, engaged us with history and information and we saw all the important sights in Stellenbosch, Franschoek and Paarl.
And the wine? Wow, wow, wow. I am a big fan of South African wines now!

We were picked up from our Cape Town hotel by the charming Fanny. We drove in her comfortable car thru town and out toward wine country. Fanny told us about some of the sights we were seeing and pointed out interesting places along the way. The conversation was easy and she was a terrific guide. The tour was well organized, the vineyards she chose were fantastic and the tastings were wonderful. She brought us to another vineyard where we we able to have a fantastic lunch at our expense. When our day was done, she got us safely back to our hotel. Fanny has a lovely personality. We laughed and talked so comfortably throughout the entire tour. I highly recommend this tour through some of South Africa's wine country

Our tour guide, Fanny, led us through the most gorgeous wine estates! Having only done one wine tasting class in New York and one modest tasting in Pennsylvania, I looked forward to seeing multiple wineries and vineyards in a single day. Because we had selected a Monday tour, our locations were partially influenced by availability, not that we would have noticed, given the superb quality of where we'd be taken that day, both for our eyes and palates.

Fanny picked us up from our AirBnB in the morning, we headed straight to our first location at Lanzerac Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. We selected a set of five: two whites sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, three reds merlot, pinotage, and cab, many award-winning. No foods accompanied the tasting. We gave especially close attention to the pinotage, given it to be a South African specialty and one harder to find in the U.S.

Our second location sat about half an hour's drive away at Tokara. Along the way, Fanny pointed out numerous points of interest, both man-made and botanical, ranging from the hospital of the first heart transplant to the effects of eucalyptus trees in the region. She readily answered our random questions with patience and ease.

Tokara is a portmanteau of the owners' son and daughter's name. Watercolor paintings derived from wine and ink line a few hallways. Floor-to-ceiling glass overlook sample-sized and full-sized vineyards. If one peeks through certain exterior windows, massive wooden barrels can be seen, storing litres and litres of aging wine. We had greater freedom in choosing any five wines of our choice, rather than a set list at the first location, and beautiful olives supplemented our tasting. What's more, an olive oil tasting followed our wine tasting! We delightfully sampled a handful of house-grown and house-pressed olive oils, ranging from fruity to peppery, with cubed bread, occasionally dipping pieces into their homemade dukkah, a fragrant dry spice blend.

Ivan has been a fantastic wine tour guide, taking us to the award-winning wineries that produce small batches of excellent wines. The fact that he is a retired teacher, is an added bonus as he shares with valuable historical information of the sites you see along the way. Highly recommended.
