What You Can Expect

Ihlara Valley and Derinkuyu Underground City Tour

Informative, friendly and professional your guide

After morning pickup at your hotel in Cappadocia, travel in a climate-controlled minivan to a viewpoint over Göreme.

Take in sweeping views of Göreme valley and the village with its otherworldly fairy chimneys, rock formations, and cave residences. Then head to Derinkuyu Underground City, one of the best preserved underground cities in Cappadocia. The dwellings reach a depth of about 285 feet (85 meters) and contain stables, storage rooms, churches, wineries, and more.

Continue to Ihlara Valley, which measures about 10 miles (16 km) long and has more than 100 rock-carved churches and houses tucked into the valley walls. Follow your guide on a 2.5-mile (4-km) walk along the river valley to see the hidden churches. Then sit down for lunch at a riverside restaurant in the village of Belisirma.

After lunch, visit the impressive Selime Monastery, a lofty space that was carved out of the rock by Christian monks during the 13th century. As you drive back to your hotel, make a short stop at the Yaprakhisar viewpoint for another view of Selime Monastery. The location is also known to Star Wars fans as the backdrop to the 'Sand People' scenes in the movie.

Your full-day tour ends in the late afternoon with drop-off at your hotel.
