What You Can Expect

Bazurto Market Adventure Tour in Cartagena

Fruits and Veggies from the Market

Begin your tour with pickup from your central Cartagena hotel and a short ride to Bazurto Market. First, pass through Cartagena’s colorful Getsemani neighborhood, famous for its graffiti street art and hip nightlife, and pay a visit to a local shopping mall, before venturing into the buzzing marketplace.

Follow your guide around the labyrinth of stalls, stopping to take a peek at a metal mechanic workshop, and watch the local craftsmen at work. Next, visit a music store, where you can sip a cold beer as you listen to ‘Champeta’, the urban folklore music that remains hugely popular throughout the region. You’ll even get to take away a CD of some of your favorite music.

Learn more about the fascinating history of the market and the Getsemani neighborhood as you stop to browse the stalls and chat with the vendors. Pause for refreshments (included) at a fresh juice stall, then meet one of the market’s most legendary poster artists. You’ll even have the chance to have a handmade poster created with your own personal message. Continue to the herbsman stand, where you’ll get to sample a traditional Colombian healing potion, then marvel at the butcher’s stalls, laden with different cuts of meat.

After working up an appetite walking around the market, stop to enjoy lunch at the legendary Ceci's restaurant, which was famously featured on American chef Anthony Bourdain's TV show. After tucking into an array of Colombian specialties, enjoy a short walk through the fish market before exiting the market, where a driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.

If you are expecting a regular old market like you see in Mexico, London or the United States, youve got another thing coming. This market is extremely dirty and makes you wonder why would anyone go here. Well, once inside all the rows and booths you quickly figure it out. All of the food they prepare and items sold are prepared with love. It was great seeing how our tour guide communicated with everyone, as to say we were with her and just visiting. I cant say enough about Lorena who took us to special booths so we could see the gentleman preparing the herbal remedies for customers, then the street artist who made posters for all of the musical events, not to mention the DJ who prepared two CDs for us to take to remember or visit. We finalized our three hour tours with a meal at Cecelias, supposedly one of the oldest and restaurants in the market .

Very interesting market and a very good tour. Lots of variety, juice tasting, poster making, herbalist, dance lesson, lunch, and a ride on the local bus. Lots of interesting stuff to see. Excellent guides. Recommended.

It was a great venture to a different side of Cartagena. You need to be prepared for seeing the grittier side. The market is filled with all types of handmade wares - not crafts but, items used in everyday living. Cooking utensils, foods, etc. The guide gave us an interesting perspective of the class system that exists. Learning about some of the dances and music was a lot of fun. Meeting a local market artist and market chef was also cool. I was cautious about the foods I sampled but, would definitely do again!

Fantastic tour! Lorena and Marcy were unbelievable guides-friendly and knowledgeable. They expertly navigated through this local market-hit all the hilights along the way (food and music). We felt we were dropped into a place that captured the essence of the local and native inhabitants of Cartagena.

This tour is truly amazing if you want to see the other side of Cartagena, instead of the colonial part of town. The guides are really good and you get a good insight in food, street art, music and life in this neighborhood. The tour is completely safe and the food delicious. For me it was the best part of the trip to Cartagena and a true unforgettable experience.
