The guide met me right on time at the Catania airport and did a fantastic job telling me--and the six other tour participants--about Catania, Etna, and Taormina. She was fighting a cold and sore throat, but still powered through the day and was friendly and informative. If the weather is reasonably clear, definitely pay the extra money to take the ski lift and off-road bus transport to the 3000-meter mark on Etna. The views were amazing--both down onto the surrounding plains and into the side craters left from previous eruptions. The ground was still steaming in a few places along the walking path! Grazie mille, Sonia!!
Fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable about the area. Full day of adventure. Highly recommended
Starting on a nice sunny morning, our guide Floriana Enta Tribe collected us on time, with a smile and warm welcome.
We collected 5 other clients before exiting Catania city. Due to morning traffic this took c50 minutes and was the only frustrating aspect of the trip.
We approached Etna from the south and once we passed the village of Nicolosi into Etna National Park the landscape change was dramatic.
We stopped a number of times en route to Rifugio Sapienza c 2000m, where Floriana spoke about various aspects of the mountain eruption history, lava flow, rock formation, flora of the area etc.
On arriving at the Rifugio we had to decide take the walking tour around one of the dormant Silvestri craters eruption of 1893 or proceed higher taking the cable car, and 4x4 to the next Mountain station at c2500m. Going higher was not in our tour price.
The weather had closed in, mist and some drizzle. Dramatic changes in weather on Etna is the norm! All our group opted for the Silvestri tour / hike with guide Floriana. Despite the poor visability, this was a very interesting hike. We missed seeing the summit or Catania city, but the mist in a way added to the dramatic landscape. Floriana enhanced the experience with information and discussion.
The hike took c70 minutes, included short climbs and difficult underfoot conditions at times. Even at this height, a shower proof jacket, long trousers and hiking shoe/runners are advisable.
Next was a stop to go into an old 'Lava Tube'. This involved putting on head gear and progressing c200 meters into the tube. Not something all enjoyed but a highlight for me.
We then stopped in Zafferana Etnea village to sample olive oil and honey from a local producer. Purchase optional!
We had a 2 hour stay in Taormina, time to see the main attractions, have a coffee.
On the trip Floriana was very good at pointing out at pointing out and discussing aspects of local history and culture, in addition to Etna specific info. Highly Recommended.
Fabulous tour despite poor weather when arrving at Etna. Taormina was worth the trip alone for the beautiful scenery and chance to explore this charming little town.
This was really a great trip and I highly recommend it! Giuseppe is VERY knowledgable of the area and so kind and patient with everyone. He really taught us a lot about Mt. Etna and had such great recommendations. This was one of the best tours I've taken! Do it!
My adult son and I enjoyed the tour very much. Guiseppe was a nice, friendly guide, a small group of 8 was perfect, good to have mountain, village, tasting in one tour. Going to top of Mt. Etna was 63 extra, but when you are there you don't want to stay in the middle station in the clouds but go all the way up.
The tour of Mt Aetna was wonderful especially with the cave tour. Also enjoyed Taomina. Must say the best part was our guide Julia. She had an amazing knowledge of geology and the history of Mt Aetna in particular. Also informative about the rest of the tour. Very enjoyable
Trip to Etna was exciting and the tour of Taormina was a wonderful way to esnd the day.
everything was excellent
excellent program drawn
Had a wonderful time on this trip. Julia was especially friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is going to Catania.
We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide Giulia was very enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable, and also a lot of fun. The highlight was visiting Mt Etna but we also really liked the visit to the lava cave and the food tasting. Spending time in Taormina was also a nice experience in a beautiful town. I would definitely recommend this tour.
A full day starting with a hotel pickup which was great. Spent a couple hours at Mt. Etna and climbed through an underground lava cave which was very interesting. Would have preferred 2 hours in Taormina but group wanted to go for an hour to Isola Bella for a swim or sit on the beach. Stopped at
an organic farm which was okay. Only issue was the van the tour leader used. Although his English was very good and he was quite knowledgable, the van was very noisy and it rattled over most of the roads. We were in the back of the van and really couldn't hear many of his comments.
lovely guide - nice tour - wouldve liked longer in Taormina - 2 hrs was not enough and to fit lunch in too
This tour was great. Loved Mt Etna and the options to go to 200ft, 2500ft and 3000ft. Taormina was stunning and it was lovely to hve 2hrs free time to wander the beautiful streets. But i would have to say the trip wouldn't have been that great had it not been for our wonderful tour guide Alexandros. He was excellent and very knowledgeable, friendly and fun.
Franco is an excellent tour guide who tried his best to make us feel comfortable and explain things to us as best he could. But it would be even better if we can stay on top of Etna for another 20mins or so as tourists had put in much effort and resources to get there.
Etna was exciting to see. The tour guide spent a lot of time with the French couple with us but they demanded a lot of his time. He was polite enough to explain to us what they were talking about but the large portion of the time we spent watching the countryside or walking the sights on our own. Taormina was gorgeous but since darkness arrives early it would have been nicer to have a little more time in the daylight to enjoy the town. The one downside is the van windows were not clean. It's a minor detail but as someone who loves the outdoors and because every sight requires time on the road, it would have been nice to have clean windows to take pictures out of.
We liked the tour very much and the guide was very informative. Our only complaint is we did not have very much time in Taormina especially since we also had to eat lunch. Otherwise it was great.
Great experience overall--weather wasn't perfect, but our guide was great!
