Very interesting and informative. Excellent way to also get to know your way around.
We took this tour in mid October and the weather was lovely It might get too hot for some folks in July/August.
It was a lovely way to see Catania which we thought was a great city and sample some really nice local food. You get to sample a lot, so come hungry. The two guides we had were very sweet and gave us some background on the history of the town which was nice. Since we were on a cruise we did not get a chance to come back and enjoy some of the areas/restaurants we saw, which was sad...would love to come back.
The walk is pretty easy, although as mentioned it might be too hot for some in the summer months.
This was a great experience. We really enjoyed trying foods we otherwise wouldn't have tried. We learned a lot about the local area. This tour is a lot of walking and isn't for people with any walking issues.
This tour was the best thing about Catania. The city itself is ugly, looks a bit scary like a bad part of new york or los angeles but this tour made the trip perfect. Elena was excellent and we saw so many cool things and the fish market and tasted all kinds of foods. If I did not take this tour I would have been so unhappy I had booked Catania - I think more people should do this tour it is exceptional.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and Elena was a well informed and friendly guide. This tour gave us a great insight into the local culture and history. It was also a great way to get a better feel for Catania. Highlights for us included: the fish market - a not-to be missed experience. The local vendors were so friendly and theatrical and it was fascinating to see all the local produce. We also enjoyed the drinks kiosk with the delicious local drinks including seltz and champagnino. Elena showed us some parts of Catania which we would never have found ourselves. Highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in culture and food. Would recommend getting to the starting point early for a pre-coffee tour at Il nonna . Coffee was superb and the barista was lovely - great people watching on the piazza.
Very interesting....pace was good....tour guides were friendly, informative and attentive.
This was a fantastic tour filled with the sights, sounds, and culinary delights of Catania. Our guide was knowledgeable, extremely informative on all aspects of the local culture, and provided a complete walking tour of Catania. The walk was leisurely and comprehensive of Catania's key sights, yet wasn't physically demanding as several stops for food were threaded throughout the tour. The foods offered varried from savory to sweet. One of the multiple stops included a food that I never thought I would ever eat, but did so to savor the full experience - and it wasn't so bad. There was never any pressure to eat something offered on the tour. I plan to try and recreate some foods from the tour like the mouthwatering arancine al ragu rice ball filled with a meat and tomato sauce a ham/cheese filled filo delight and a refreshing manderine nectar with sparkling soda. We saw fruits, vegetables, and seafood I never knew existed. We were on a cruise and booked this tour prior to departure. Many others on the cruise did an excursion to nearby Tarromina and stated that it was beautiful, but felt like a tourist trap. This tour offered an authentic Italian experience and as avid international travelers felt this was one of the best experiences we've encountered. During a conversation with our guide we shared our mutual love of pistachios. She mentioned that there was a store that sells a pistachio spread that has the consistency like nutella. She included a stop in this store so I could make a purchase and the store offered our group additional samplings of various liquors.
This was a great tour - great way to see the city and get acquainted. Walking through the fish market and all the hustle and bustle set the tone for visiting the city. There were some challenging tastings - so you must be prepared to be a little adventurous. Our guide, Helena, was very kind and gave some good insights into both the city and some of Catania's traditional delicacies. Would definitely recommend.
Our guide was terrific and the entire experience was well organized. I felt like we were able to see the entire city and taste amazing food. I think the walking expectation for the tour should be very clear in the description as there was an older couple that had trouble keeping up.
We were lucky to have two knowledgeable, personable and interesting young women as our tour guides.
The tour was comprehensive and our guides presented a thorough overview of the food, markets and the city in general. What we ate was mostly delicious take the tour and find out what wasn't and we were pleased with the places that they recommended that we were able to try. Thank you.
Very interesting way to spend a morning, being introduced to the city and the local food and drinks.
This is a must if you are in the area. While I myself am a vegetarian and therefore do not partake of things like tripe or horse meat on any occasion, there was plenty for me to eat and enjoy about the tour. We walked all over Catania and saw the many open air markets, while being given some lessons in history and architecture. our guides, Sabine and Elena, were wonderful. It also helps that your tour ends up at a fantastic pastry and coffee shop, Nonna Vincenzo! You do just enough walking to justify all of the eating.
Had an excellent time getting to know some local food that we otherwise wouldn't have found. Very friendly guides, fluent English, and along with the culinary walk also explained about Catania's history and culture. Highly recommend, great value.
This was an interesting tour, thoroughly enjoyable. Tastinng the local foods and visiting sites in Catania made for a wonderful day. The tour guide we had was fantastic.
Very kind and knowledgeable guide, very well organized. An excellent way to explore the beautiful details of the city.
My wife and I made our way to the meeting point in Piazza Duomo and met our guide Serena who was already waiting there. The Piazza itself is a good location as there is a lot of historical and locally important buildings in the Piazza as well as fountains and monuments. Serena was a friendly, knowledgeable and fluent in English which made the tour a pleasure as she spoke about the food, places and history of Catania while we wandered through the medieval city.
She pointed out places of interest, allowed us freedom to explore places that weren't on the 'official' tour and was always willing to answer questions whether on or off topic.
The food aspect was also an adventure which my wife and I embraced even when it was a little bit out of our comfort zone - at the beginning of the tour you receive a card 'passport' with a graphic of a map and the stops for food on the way which Serena stamps for you every time you fulfill a tasting challenge - happy to say we did them all.
The tour took us through parts of Catania we had not seen previously and would have missed altogether as well as providing a chance to try new things and learn more about the history of Catania and Sicily.
We both recommend this tour as a great way to explore the city and it's culture.

We took the tour on our first day of a short city break in Catania. It was a great way to learn our way around the city, to hear about the history of the city, and most importantly, to be introduced to Catanese and Sicilian food. We had a lovely morning exploring the markets, eateries and tourist sights and with our guide. We returned to many locations over the next few days. Highly recommended.

Very interesting to visit the food markets and have a taste of various food.
Excellent, thoroughly enjoyable and a great way to view a new city and new culture
Food options were plentiful and visit to fish market was interesting.
We did this tour on a Monday so some options were unavailable and others substituted - this included the horse meat being substituted for wine tasting.
This is a walking tour of the downtown Catania area stopping at several points to taste unique Sicilian cuisine. Some of the food items sounded unusual and perhaps off-putting, but all were delicious. The highlight of the tour was the visit to the Catania fish and vegetable markets -- especially the fish market, which is amazing! Also, the tour passes through some interesting historical areas. Our tour director was excellent, informed, and engaged. Her command of English was excellent. Be prepared for a lot of walking, including up and down some hilly areas.
We toured several fascinating and very colorful food markets, as well as several small eateries. Sampled a variety of mostly unfamiliar foods. Our guide also filled us in on historical and cultural context of the areas we walked through. Very enjoyable and informative. Our guide was excellent.
Great Tour, of many areas and some good food samples. Good history tour of the town too. recommend it as a good way to see and taste the city of Catania
