Hotel pickup and drop-off is included.

  • Marvel at the lava caves and craters of Mount Etna on a guided hike
  • Tuck into a delicious 3-course lunch and sample fine regional wines
  • Discover the natural wonders of the Alcantara Gorge
  • Easy level hike suitable for participants of reasonable fitness
  • Great-value tour includes hotel pickup, lunch, and entrance fees
  • Small-group tour limited to 8 people ensures a personalized experience
Your tour begins with pickup from your Taormina hotel in time for an 8.30am departure. After meeting your guide and small group of up to 8 people, set out on the around 1-hour journey to Mount Etna.
On arrival, follow your guide on an around 2.5-hour hike in the foothills of the active volcano. Trek around the rugged lava fields, volcanic craters, and ancient woodlands, then strap on a head torch and venture underground to explore a natural lava cave.
After working up an appetite, head to a local restaurant to enjoy a 3-course lunch of delicious Sicilian cuisine, including tasty appetizers, pasta dishes, and an indulgent dessert. Accompany your meal with a selection of fine wines from the Etna wine region and learn more about the grapes that are grown in the fertile volcanic soils.
After the wine tasting, continue to another one of the region’s natural wonders — the Alcantara Gorge. Discover how the gorge was carved out by an ancient lava flow as you walk beneath the dramatic cliffs and visit impressive viewpoints, where you’ll have plenty of opportunity to take photos.
Back in Taormina, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel around 6.30pm.

Alessandro was amazing- the weather wasn't cooperating and he rearranged the schedule to make sure that we could fit in the hike and the exploration of the park

My husband and I loved this tour! The tour included hotel pickup which was a huge plus. The tour group included us two and a family of four from the UK, which was the perfect size group. Our tour guide Saro was wonderful! He is native to the region and was so knowledgeable about Mt. Etna. He gave a great overview of Mt. Etna before we did our hike and provided a wealth of information about the area throughout the tour. The hike wasn't too strenuous and would be good for all groups. In addition to touring Mt. Etna we also explored a cave and the gorge. Both were really cool. All neccessary equipment was provided The highlight of the day was the delicious lunch at Don Saro winery! The food was amazing and included an appetizer, pasta dish and dessert. We sampled red, white and rose wines. Our glasses were always full! It was a great day out!

Hands down one of the best tours I've ever done. It's a fast paced day with plenty of activity. The lunch with wine at Don Soro vineyard was fantastic and then finishing off the day in the cool waters of the gorge made it a perfect day!!

I absolutely loved this tour! Since we were picked up from our hotel, it was easy to find the tour guide. Communication was great through WhatsApp and we had a full day of seeing Etna and all of the beautiful views from the foothills. The lunch and wine tasting was at a vineyard and was incredible. It was about an hour drive from our hotel to Etna for all of the tour, so this trip was well worth the money. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see Etna and the amazing views of Taormina.

We are a small group. The guide is very good, he was brought up in a local town so has very deep local knowledge and knowledge of volcanoes as well. Everything is explained clearly. It was a sunny day but when we are up in the mountain it was snowing there! The jackets and hiking boots provided by the tour company are really helpful. The view was stunning. Highly Recommended!

Paolo was an amazing host, very knowledgeable, a geologist - so was full of interesting information about the Etna craters. Loved the walk around the crater rims. I would definitely change the food element of this trip. The food was well below par, served on plastic plates with plastic forks... really like school cafeteria food. Awful. I had also said that my friend needed a low GI diet, and all she got was cheese and an apple. No effort made whatsoever to cater for anyone gluten free or diabetic, even when given the heads up. No excuse for this poor response. It seems that the 'lunch' was really a marketing trap to take us all to one man's Cave. It was freezing in the cave where we had 'lunch'. This needs a total rethink. A shame really as this had the makings of an excellent adventure.

Got some cool pictures from Mount Etna! It was nice to have equipment jacket and boots available so we didn't need to pack anything special. My favorite part of this was of course, the wine tour! We went to one winery and purchased a couple bottles for later in the vacation. I would recommend this tour as a catch all Etna experience. Very passionate tour guide who really loves Etna!

Autumn was on us so it was touch and go if this tour would go ahead but it did and in decent sunshine our guide was an immensely erudite geologist, the lava ice caves were particularly interesting - so not only was the tour of Etna full of detail and information but the other aspects of the tour rounded it off beautifully: the wine-making interlude at lunch followed by a visit to the Alcantara gorge altogether a delightful tour that nearly had to be cancelled on account of the weather...the one day tour that was cancelled was the one to Agrigento and that was not on account of the weather but because there were only 7 passengers there have to be at least 10 but all credit to Viator for the speed and trustworthiness with which they reimbursed our prepayment - overall, Viator was an extremely efficient tour agent and facilitator

The tour guide was really great. Since it was late in the season, we were limited in what we could access, however in no way did I feel disadvantaged. The guide took us on everything he could and answered all our questions. He was really knowledgeable and our group had a really great time trekking Etna. The wine was amazing and lunch was tailored for eating restrictions of individuals. The caves and hiking to the Alcantara Gorge were worth seeing. Thanks for a great day!
