Traveler Tips

The ferry ride did get pretty windy and chilly so I recommend bringing a jacket, but I was okay without one despite that I am typically always cold.

Great Experience
Judy_R, Sep 2022
Very interesting presentation by Ranger. Recommend for all ages. Evening flag lowering ceremony was impressive.
A must see!
Vicki_M, Sep 2022
The ferry ride was very enjoyable and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. The fort was smaller than I expected. The only downside was that I didn’t feel like there was enough time to thoroughly tour the museum. We took photos to read all the history and details of the fort after we got home.
Great Day at the Fort

The ferry was a great way to Get on the water. The ride included a very informative and interesting presentation thst provided great information. That continued when we reached Fort Sumter and the Park Ranger continues to educate is with Charleston history. My husband was thrilled to have the opportunity to help take down and fold the American Flag

Took the first tour of the day and got to experience the flag raising. So interesting, just needed more time to explore and read all of the information. After doing the flag raising, didn’t have much time left for looking around the Fort.

Exceptional tour: the ticketing process was easy to navigate, take an Uber to the location (parking is sketch), there are limited snacks on the way to the Fort (grab a bite before you get there, but on the way back you can buy snacks and order beer or wine), the cruise is informative and quick. Once you arrive go to the museum first and then look around (much more profound experience), contrary to what they tell you - there are water closets / bathroom facilities on location! Pro - tip: Be on time! The ferry leaves the shore EXACTLY when they say it will... All in all, I would highly recommend the tour!

Convenient parking at Liberty Square, bevies on boat with dolphins in the harbour. The Ranger was great at the Fort with info and humour. An hour is the perfect amount of time adults and kids left with a great history lesson

Walking the grounds where it all began. Being on the tour that raises the flag was a bonus. We could have used more time for the visit. Wasn't able to adequately visit the museum on the grounds or the gift shop.

Rebecca_D, Dec 2020
We visited Fort Sumter over Christmas break and really enjoyed it. The ferry tour and the National Park personnel were very friendly and helpful. It was very COVID-safe with limited people on the ferry and at the park. It was a great to learn more about the history of the USA.

Flo_C, Dec 2020
Nice day and calm waters made the ferry trip very enjoyable at 9:30 am. It would have been perfect if the museum was open. We were glad the fort was there and be able to see something of history’s past. the time allotted was just right.

Fort Sumter and ranger Woody
dwayne_M, Nov 2020
Great conversation with “Woody” one of the park rangers. He was knowledgeable and insightful. There’s really nit much to see at Fort Sumter, but his special historical knowledge about little known facts was fascinating.
Robert_H, Nov 2020
Great tour, good price, amazing history, and perfect length! I would recommend to all history buffs!
