Participate in panda conservation efforts by volunteering with the Dujiangyan Panda Base research and conservation center. During this activity in Chengdu, you shadow the panda keepers and learn what caring and feeding for these iconic animals takes. Lunch, entrance fees, and round-trip transportation from your Chengdu hotel is included.
  • Volunteer day at the Dujiangyan Panda Base
  • Help care for the pandas, including feeding and cleaning their enclosures
  • Learn about panda conservation efforts in the area
  • Lunch included
  • Certificate of participation in the volunteer program
  • Round-trip transportation from Chengdu hotels
Begin your day with convenient hotel pickup in downtown Chengdu. In a comfortable tour vehicle, travel about an hour to the Dujiangyan Panda Base giant panda research and conservation center.

Upon arrival, you'll be presented with a souvenir T-shirt before switching to an onsite excursion vehicle that will take you to see the pandas in action in their enclosures. Meet the panda keepers, who will fill you in on the pandas' biology and behavior before you start your volunteering work. During the course of the day, you'll prepare food for the animals, including bamboo and 'panda cakes' made from rice and egg. Help clean the pandas' enclosures and provide assistance on any other tasks the caretaker is working on.

Midday, take a break for a local lunch and some time exploring the panda garden.

End up with a volunteer certificate in hand and a ride back to your hotel in Chengdu around late afternoon.
Stop At:
Dujiangyan Panda Base
Meet your driver at the lobby of your hotel in Chengdu city centre and drive for approximately 1.5 hours to the non-profit rescue and research center of Dujiangyan Giant Panda Center. The center has three sections: the breeding area, a semi-wild reintroduction area, and a reintroduction area. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the panda keepers who work to create a natural environment for China’s most beloved animals, and receive a short training session in how to deal with the pandas. After that, you can participate in two panda feedings — one in the morning and one in the afternoon — washing and carrying fresh bamboo for them, and preparing food like fruit, carrots and panda cakes. These nutritional treats are made with shredded bamboo mixed by hand with rice and egg to create a large, solid cake. The pandas love them! After your first volunteer session, enjoy a Chinese local lunch provided for you at the center’s cafeteria. Then you will spend about an hour visiting the panda gardens before you resume your volunteer work. In the afternoon, you’ll help clean the pandas’ indoor and outdoor enclosures, and depending on the caretaker's schedule perhaps you may have chance learn to record panda behavior or even assist with weighing the pandas. You'll receive a volunteer certificate and the satisfaction of contributing to a great cause after the full day helping out with these animals. After this the tour ends and your driver will bring you back to your hotel

Nice evening

Beijing Private Tour: Shaolin Kung Fu Show and Peking Roasted Duck Dinner | Dec 2019
We enjoyed the dinner and the show. It would have been nice to have someone explain the history and tradition of the dinner. The driver was prompt. The show was enjoyable and involved impressive acrobatics.

Beijing Summer Palace Admission Ticket | Nov 2019
Of all the places we visited in Beijing, this was by far our favourite. There was so much to see with lots of variety plus quiet places away from all the crowds. The views from the top across the lake are absolutely stunning, a must see.

Tour is Very Good but Viator’s Price is NOT

Mutianyu Great Wall and Changling Ming Tomb Bus Tour from Beijing | Nov 2019
The actual company behind the same exact tour is offered on multiple online sites for $28-$34, but was $50 on Viator. So don't be like me who booked through Viator and paid too much. The tour itself was very good. Our tour guides name was White and he spoke English with clear pronunciation. Know that there is an extra (required) 120 RMB cost ($17) charge for the cable car, which is sometime included by other companies booking the same tour. The shopping stops (Jade and Tea tasting) are actually interesting, and are not high-pressure, but help subsidize the cost of the trip. The lunch was plentiful and decent, although little meat (was the quality to be expect for mass delivered tour lunch). The Ming Changling Tomb is only so-so but you actually go into the building that you can not go in at the Forbidden city, but not sure is really worth the extra time.

Wasted Time

Mutianyu Great Wall and Changling Ming Tomb Bus Tour from Beijing | Sep 2019
The guide spoke almost no English. A lot of bla bla about the shopping spots and next to zero explanation for the Great Wall. The guide didn't care for his group, almost lost sbd. We spent more time on the road driving to distant shopping outlets that on historic locations, This tour just steels your time and money.

Our guide made this perfect!

Beijing Private Tour: Shaolin Kung Fu Show and Peking Roasted Duck Dinner | Sep 2019
This trip was made perfect in every way by our guide. Unfortunately we didn’t ask her name! She collected us promptly in a very clean car and took us to a traditional Peking Duck restaurant. This was very popular with locals which was encouraging. She spoke good English and used Google translate to help even more. She ensured we understood about the duck and all the other gorgeous food we were presented with. Even showing my husband how to use chopsticks! She had even been so kind as to bring fresh peaches for our dessert as they were in season. A quick ride across town to the Red Theatre. Our guide positioned us perfectly for a photo outside before she collected our tickets and personally showed us to our seats. She took the time to ensure we understood about the show we were to see. The show was superb! The seats excellent and we took many photos to remind us of the great evening. Our guide was waiting for us to return us to the hotel. All in all, this was excellent in every way possible. Thank you!

Amazing experience

Mutianyu Great Wall Private Tour with Picnic and Wine | Jun 2019
This was an amazing day and unforgettable experience. James, my guide, is very kind and helpful, gave me a lot of precious info and history and was always ready to meet my needs and fulfil my requests. He even offered to help me organize my evening plan, after the tour, which was not part of what he was supposed to do. I took the stairs to go to the Great Wall, a good exercise. James met me in one of the watching towers and introduced me to this unbelievable construction and its history. We paused for wine and the lunch, then I stayed an additional hour to take some extra photos. James has suggested and taken some fantastic photos of me that my friends have enjoyed. I can only say: DO IT!
