Overview

Take a gentle, 45-minute boat ride on the Mai Ping River and see a different side of Chiang Mai. This half-day guided excursion ends at a local farm where traditional methods are used to make your bowl of 'khao soi' noodles for lunch. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included.
  • Mai Ping River riverboat cruise and farmhouse lunch
  • See Chiang Mai life from the water
  • Local dish of Thai noodle soup
  • Choice of several departures throughout the day
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
Meet your guide at your hotel in downtown Chiang Mai at the selected departure time and proceed straight to the dock. You'll board a typical riverboat for a 45-minute cruise that gently navigates the Mae Ping River. Observe the lifestyle of the local people whose traditional wooden homes and modern residences line the riverbank.
You'll stop off at a farm that grows its own fruit and vegetables. Learn about the cultivation of jasmine rice and the medicinal and culinary uses of a variety of herbs that are tended and harvested in traditional fashion. Taste a selection of seasonal fruit in combination with lemongrass and other herbal juices. The highlight is a farmhouse lunch of khao soi — delicious noodles in a spicy curry broth.
After your tasty meal, you'll return directly to your hotel.

We went on the Mae Ping River Cruise with Lunch at the farm house. They picked us up from a hotel near us. The driver on the way there wan? was a very nice lady and gave a good explanation of what to expect. They were all extremely friendly and fun. Our tour guide Rabbit กระตาย was a very silly guy. He explained a bit about what we were seeing on the river which was nice. He interjected silly comments and animal noises from time to time which made it fun. The river part was interesting seeing whats along the river - nothing stunning or beautiful, but very peaceful. When we got to the farm house they gave a little tour of the items growing there. It was not particularly interesting, but if you are into herbs and fruits may be interesting. We then had a very nice lunch with plenty of fresh fruits. They even offered more fruit if you wanted, but we were quite full after eating the lunch and fruit provided. We both enjoyed the trip and for 15 US each for 2 hours with lunch we though it was a very good deal. I would highly recommend it, but make sure you only expect a pleasant time and nothing spectacular.

It was nice and the farmhouse food was lovely. Yet, it would be nice if the tour guide had better English so we could understand better what we were supposed to look at during the boat tour. It was a nice outing though.

Had a very nice tour. The boat ride was relaxing and the scenery was interesting. Saw modern hotels/buildings and how some of the local residents live. The farmhouse was very cool and we walked through the garden with all the plants and vegetables. The food from kitchen was excellent.

Quite an interesting tour, but river and river banks are sad to look at as they are so run down. Guide had poor English. Farmers house was intesting and food was the best part really. It's quite a short trip and it gets you away from the city, but it's not very beautiful!
