Morning Buddhist Almsgiving and Temples Tour in Chiang Mai

Morning Buddhist Almsgiving and Temples Tour in Chiang Mai

Meet your private guide upon hotel pickup in Chiang Mai in the early morning, and travel by air-conditioned minivan to Mt Suthep where you’ll join local Buddhist devotees in almsgiving. Your guide helps you fill the monks’ alms bowls with rice as they make their daily procession.

Re-board the minivan to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a Buddhist monastery where you’ll disembark to climb the 309 steps of the Golden Naga staircase. Reaching the top, admire the golden pagodas, a magnificent Emerald Buddha replica and the vista over Chiang Mai.

Your next stop includes a walk through mysterious tunnels leading to the 14th-century Wat Umong. During a private blessing ceremony with resident Buddhist monks, soak up the ambient sounds of chanting amid flickering candles and the scent of incense.

Finally, sate your appetite with a classic northern Thai dish called khao soy, which is made with coconut milk, crispy noodles and plenty of spices. After this savory breakfast, you’re delivered back to your hotel in Chiang Mai.

Highly recommend this tour!! Going early to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is definitely the right decision. The sunrise was beautiful and the temple was not crowded. As we were leaving bus loads of people were arriving. Our tour guide was lovely -- very nice and informative, and spoke great English. She took us to a delicious traditional northern Thai lunch!

Brilliant. This tour is a must for anyone visiting Chiang Mai. Going in the early morning is better as it is less busy and truly peaceful. Our guide was fabulous and very entertaining. The 306 steps are worth the effort.

Our family of four really enjoyed all of this. It was great to see all the monks walk down the street and then fill their bowls with food and have a blessing and then go and visit all the temples. Great way to see and learn about the history of Chiang Mai

It was an early start but so worth it. Fascinating to watch the monks come out of their temple, bare foot, on a relatively cold morning, walking along the street stopping to accept food/gifts from members of the public lining the street, in return receiving a blessing. A great opportunity to see a glimpse of the monks life.

My friends and I loved this experience!!!! Sam was our guide and he arrived promptly on time as promised. He spoke perfect English and as a native to Chaing Mai he was a wealth of information. Everything we did on this tour was enjoyable. And I have to say going early in the morning was a bonus because you beat the crowds. One of my favorite meals of the entire took place with our guide Sam. He took us to the local spot that we never would have known about nor known how to order the food but he asked us our likes and dislikes and amazing food started flowing to our table and we left stuffed!! I would encourage anyone visiting Chaing Mai to consider this tour. Having a private guide, a private car and learning about the sites from a local is just the only way to go.

Brilliant! Our guide, Aittipol, was well informed, charming and accompanied us everywhere. The almsgiving to and blessings from the monks was quite an extraordinary experience. This one is well worth getting up for. The temple visits were very interesting and well hosted. Lastly, the lunch visit was very tasty and the tour really good value for money.
