Your morning begins with an 8.30am pickup from your Chiang Mai hotel and a short transfer to Siriwattana Market. Meet your private guide, Mr Chanrat “Air” Karatna, and your small group of no more than six people, then set off on a 1-hour walking tour of the market.
Soak up the buzzing atmosphere of the local market as you weave through the crowds and browse the colorful stalls, heaped high with fresh produce. Listen as your guide, an experienced local chef, points out exotic fruits and vegetables, introduces you to fragrant herbs and spices, and explains some of the key ingredients in Thai cuisine. After discussing the menu for your group cooking class, you’ll get to help purchase the necessary ingredients, learning how to select the most suitable meats, vegetables, and herbs.
Laden with fresh ingredients, follow your guide to the nearby cooking school, where you’ll be assigned an individual cooking station in the open-air kitchen. After watching a demonstration from your instructor, set to work creating an array of traditional Thai dishes. There are plenty of dishes to choose from, but popular choices include Tom Yum Goong (Hot and Sour Prawn Soup), Gaeng Khiew Waan Gai (Green Curry with Chicken), Phad Thai (Thai Style Fried Rice Noodles), and Sticky Rice with Mango.
After working up an appetite, sit down to enjoy your homemade lunch, then take away the recipes so you can recreate your favorite dishes back home.
At the end of your tour, a driver will take you back to your hotel.
