What You Can Expect

Christchurch Sightseeing Tour by Classic Double-Decker Bus

Christchurch Sightseeing Tour by Classic Double-Decker Bus

You’re picked up in central Christchurch, where you’ll take a seat on a traditional red Routemaster before departing the city center for its outskirts on a second vehicle.

Throughout the 1-hour city tour, hear live narration on board an open-top London-style double-decker bus that provides optimal viewing of the city sights. Your driver-guide points out key attractions such as Hagley Park, the Bridge of Remembrance and New Regent Street, and details the city's history, including recovery after the 2011 earthquake that devastated much of New Zealand’s second most populous city.

Afterward, board a closed-top vintage double-decker bus for a 2-hour tour of the greater Christchurch area. Travel to the Sumner seaside, stopping for free time on the beach with views of the spectacular Southern Alps. Enjoy more vistas of the Canterbury Plains at the Port Hills, then make a final stop for a stroll around the lovely landscapes of Mona Vale Gardens, before returning to the city center where your tour ends.

A first-class tour. I did the 1-hour city tour and it was interesting to hear all the facts about the earthquakes that decimated the city in 45 seconds. I then went on the 2-hour tour of the suburbs. This too was interesting - earthquake related but also a great commentary on the existence of NZ. Driver was knowledgeable and personable.

This tour was great... informative and affordable for 3 hours. The best part of the tour was Karl, our driver and guide who was so knowledgeable about the city and how the earthquakes affected it, and the rebuild project. We did an hours tour of the city, took a walk through the beautiful Mona Valentine's Gardens, went up to Cashmere Hills for a birds eye view of the city and ended the tour with a visit to Sumner Beach. I felt I had a good knowledge of the city and a bit about its history and a greater understanding of how the earthquakes affected the city.

Excellent tour around Christchurch. We only had 2 full days to visit the area and this for the bill perfectly. The guide knew his stuff thoroughly. Would recommend this to one anyone who wants to learn about how Christchurch is recovering from the earthquake.

This was a really informative trip and gave us the opportunity to see more of Christchurch than we would have done. The 2 guides were very good and were happy to answer questions.

Great tour guide. We were amazed at how much destruction there was in Christchurch after the earthquakes. They are rebuilding. We stopped for ice cream which was great, too. Highly recommend taking the full tour not just the downtown one

Amazing - I have lived in Christchurch most of my life yet I really enjoyed the city part of the tour including the walk through Mona Vale. I had Australian family with me who had never been to NZ before and we were really surprised when the bus went up Evans Pass Rd to the top, then came down through Mt Pleasant and St Andrew's Hill. The commentary was excellent but a little hard to hear above the noise of the engine.

A brilliant tour not only of Christchurch itself but also the surrounding areas in a lovely old London Routemaster RM bus. We went merrily up hills and down dales in the Bus, luckily they have put in a reinforced engine to the one we were on, as we certainly chugged up and down with the bus working very hard. Lovely commentaries both inside Christchurch on an open-topped bus and then afterwards changing buses to a closed-topped RM for the views around the bar and environs.
Be warned - Christchurch is still looking rather poorly after all the earthquake activity over the past few years. They are working hard to restore it, but there is plenty of work still to do and plenty to see and hear about on this brilliant tour.

If you are in Christchurch you have to do this tour. We ha not really appreciated how much of the city was destroyed 5 years ago. They are doing a great job rebuilding. If you go before next January make sure you visit the restart mall, you will see just how resilient people can be.
