What You Can Expect

Cinque Terre Wine Tour in Riomaggiore and Hiking Through the Vineyards

Sample fine local wines in romantic Riomaggiore

Take a public bus up to the hilltop town of Montenero a short 15 minutes away and meet the wine grower Andrea there.

Follow your guide on a small trail until you reach a Montenero vineyard. The town and vineyard both enjoy sweeping views over the Cinque Terre, a beautiful National Park on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Learn about this region’s traditional wine-making methods - centuries-old techniques that have stood the test of time - as you walk through the rows of grapes. The focus is on making high-quality wine without using chemical products, and the results are the pride of the Cinque Terre.

After a tour of the vineyard, you'll enjoy two local wines to taste the delicate fruit flavors and find out first-hand how organic wine-making makes a difference. Nibble on a traditional Ligurian focaccia bread while you sip your wine and listen to how these wines were made.

At the conclusion of your 3-hour exploration of Cinque Terre wines, your tour ends where it began. You can go back to Riomaggiore by foot, by bus or by private transfer.

I spent my birthday in cinque terre, manarola. I have to be honest I did think this tour would be a little more of a stroll, but it was a bit challenging and Iam in pretty good shape! ( or at least I thought haha). They hills of riomaggiore are steep with rocky stairs. If you are elderly or out of shape this may be difficult for you. Also I would recommend wearing tennis shoes. But when you get to the top it is more than worth it! You have a view of the vineyards in the hills and the Mediterranean coast. As for the wine, it was pretty good. Especially the last one- which was a dessert wine. FYI for those that do not like white wines/Rosè- This is all they make in riomaggiore according the the climate they can only grow grapes for white wines and rosè. Andrea, the vineyard owner was very informative on the wine making process and very hospitable. Make sure to give yourself enough time to get there, esp. if you are taking the train from another town. We almost missed the bus (van) to the top on the hills where the meeting point was bc we could not locate the bus stop. Overall I had a very enjoyable time, as well as a bit of a workout;)

Great tour! We were anxious about meeting up on schedule but it worked beautifully. This is not a tour of the factory and cellars. This is a great history of Italy and agriculture. The wines were fabulous too. Thank you so much for the adventure.

Our guide Angela was terrific. He toured us on his vineyard, explained more than any wine tour in the USA has ever done. He does all the work himself and runs a basically organic operation he is attempting to be officially certified organic, but it takes 3 years His wines are also terrific. This is the tour to take, for sure!

Andrea was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and happy to answer all questions. Led us through a beautiful walk into the terraced vineyards and back down into the village, where we got to sample some wine in his cellar. Enjoyed the tour and loved the wine.

What an amazing tour. Andrea was an amazing host, showing us around his wonderful vineyard, explaining the whole process he must go through to make his one of a kind wine. Highly recommend this tour to anyone in the Cinque Terre area.

Super experience. Our guide was an authentic wine maker and as we walked through the vineyard we learned about everything he does to make his wines. We learned a lot about the history of the area and the technical details of growing grapes and making wine. It was really interesting. The scenery was spectacular and the wine we sampled was Buono! Be ready for a good uphill hike and the downhill side was actually more challenging but so worth it.

This tour was great! Andrea was not only a great tour guide but an awesome wine maker as well. It was neat to see what all he has to go through to produce the wine.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained the wine making process from beginning to end. There was considerable walking involved down a mountain so participants need to be prepared for that. At the end of the tour we were able to sample some of his wines too bad we couldn't buy any right then and there!.
Very worthwhile excursion!

This was a great trip and extremely informative. Alesandro was really nice and very knowledgeable about wine making and the history of the region and I feel that we learned a lot. We got to taste his wine which was delicious. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in this area and its industrious people.
