We had visited this site ourselves years ago but were thrilled to have taken a guided tour. Despite the extreme heat our wonderful guide walked us gently through the former palace and its history. Medina al Zahara is located very high up on a hill with stunning views diwn to Cordoba and the surrounding fertile valleys. Our visit concluded with a visit to the beautiful modern museum near the entrance with stunning exhibits and a very well researched short video. If you enjoy ancient history and delving into its architecture and art this tour is a must.
Visited Medina Azahara in January 2017. Getting there was fairly straightforward - the bus stop in Cordoba is easy to find. Obtaining the bus tickets online from the local supplier, as indicated on the Viator website, took much longer than expected but, but after some emails and phone calls to Viator, eventually they arrived. The tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly. The Medina is an amazing place, which gives a new perspective on the on Moorish occupation of the Iberian peninsula. Don't miss it.
This a great tour if you're looking for something a little off-the-beaten path and will only take up part of your day. It's a shame that so much of this site's history has been destroyed over time, and by various forces, but the efforts to preserve its memory are beyond admirable. This tour is very educational, and the knowledge of our guide, Angie, was beyond impressive.
If you like archeology and learning about the history of the places you visit, then this tour is for you!! We loved it! Angie, our guide was FABULOUS and extremely knowledgeable, answered all our questions. It was just me and my husband, so essentially a private tour. We highly recommend it!!
Medina Azahara is well worth visiting. It really helped to have a guide who brought the ruins to life. The tour was well organized. We were promptly collected from the agreed location in central Cordoba.
Our tour guide, Lourdes, was friendly and had a wealth of knowledge about its history. She was willing to answer our questions about the site. She also took the trouble to recommend local restaurants and other sites to check out in Cordoba. Thank you Lourdes!
Very good personable guide
The tour was great. There were only 4 in the group, and Angela the tour guide was very knowledgeable and, of course, very friendly person.
