If you're in Cozumel looking for a taste of Mexican culture, a nice break from the cruise ship atmosphere, this is the place! I loved the art exhibit, the chocolate-making, and tequila tasting. The gardens with 120:1 replicas of Mexico City and the Mayan/Aztec ruins were an unexpected pleasure. Food was authentic and guides were delightful.
We had a great host, Martin, and enjoyed the chocolate tasting as well as the tequila tasting. Both were lots of fun.
This tour was definitely worth it! Ruy was an amazing guide. Thoroughly enjoyed everything from the tour of the museum to the chocolate bar making to the Jose Cuervo tequila tasting to the authentic Mexican lunch to the amazing flyers. The day was a real treat!
Martin our tour guide was totally amazing. Both my husband and I loved this tour. Tequilla tasting was our favorite part, but all was great!
My husband and I enjoyed this excursion tremendously. The only downfall to this trip was the walk to the facility. Also, the numbers on the receipt were incorrect. However, once we got there, a nice man named Memo took good care of us. We enjoyed making chocolate, the chocolate mole and other goodies were delicious. We enjoyed learning about tequila and the margarita was delicious. Lunch was great and the facility provides a ride back to the cruise port. Nice was to spend a day and we highly recommend it!
Wonderful experience. We really enjoyed this tour. We started with a complimentary margarita and then moved on to an indoor art exhibit. Next, we made our own chocolate and had a small tasting. We continued our tour with the outdoor bar area and a walk through the miniatures park. Our guide, Carlos Bou was very informative and friendly. At the end of the park, we observed a rain dance by the Pamplanta flyers. We then participated in a tequila tasting and a had yummy taco bar lunch. I would definitely recommend this tour.
There were 7 of us. This tour was fantastic!!!! Never realized there was that much to learn about tequila. Making the chocolate was fun. Found out chocolate and tequila go together very well!!! the taco bar food was incredible. Salivating just remembering. Martin was an incredible tour guide. We 7 ladies enjoyed it so much that the guys are going on this cruise in May and they will be taking this excursion. Told them to ask for Martin. Have to take a taxi to get there, but they provide the transportation back to the ship.
It was a lot of fun. We got to learn about historic Mexican art, architecture, and traditions. We loved getting to make our own bars of chocolates and trying all the different chocolates samples that they had for us. We enjoyed the scale replicas and the pole ceremony that we got to watch. The tequila tasting was incredibly enjoyable and informative. All in all this was a great non-beach way to spend a day in Cozumel
Tour was very informative overall.
We came in on a cruise with NCL and decided to book though here instead of paying more for less via the cruise line offered excursions.
The downside is with transportation. Our ship docked at the port in downtown Cozumel and we thought we could walk to Discover Mexico but after 20 minutes we jumped in a cab which was only a 10 fee for about 2 miles.
Carlos was our guide. He was outstanding. This tour was a great balance of history and culture combined with the fun of tequila tasting and great Mexican food and margaritas. I highly recommend it.
The tour is conducted at the Discover Mexico facility which is very near the Playa Maya port walking distance. It is located further from the port located downtown where our cruise ship was docked. The cab ride following the tour was included but the cab ride from downtown to the facility was 10 US dollars.
This was one of the best high lights of our trip to Cozumel. Thanks to Memo for making this the most memorable experiences we have experienced. The chocolate was awesome. Learning about tequila was just fascinating. If you get a chance to do this on your trip to Cozumel, please do. you will not be disappointed.
I did this tour with 2 of my girlfriends, and we had a wonderful time. Memo was an awesome and knowledgable guide. I would highly recommend this tour.
Great tour with a small group of people, 6. Our guide did a excellent job of explaining everything as we proceeded through the tour. It was a fun and learning experience.
We absolutely loved this tour. I'm really glad that we booked a guided tour for Discover Mexico, instead of just paying for admission. We had a personal tour guide for our family who expedited everything. Making the chocolate was a lot of fun, and the complimentary margarita might be the best margarita I've ever had. Everything was very informative and interesting.
This tour was a lot of fun!!! Our tour guide, Martin, was very nice and accomodating the whole time. I highly recommend this tour!!!! Ask for Martin!!!
Great tour with the lunch and margaritas! Making chocolate and tasting tequila was fun. Add folk art and dance and it was a great day.
One of the very best excursions I EVER went on. Viator ROCKS. We were treated like royalty, given preferential treatment over other tours .. called out by name, and really given first class treatment. Our group of four had the best day of our tour that day with Viator. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
We took this tour thinking that it might be a little kitschy, but were pleasantly surprised. After the welcome margarita and short video there was an interesting sample of Mexican cultural art from around their country. The attached descriptions did a good job explaining what each was, as did our guide. A quick word about the guides I think they would make or break the experience, and our's was very good. There were also only 6 people in our group. Our guide Zori, and I recommend requesting her if you can. The chocolate making section of the tour was interesting and a lot of fun, and the tequila tasting, with Zori as the lead was almost elegant, as well as informative. Most of the brands of tequila they sell at the gift shop our cheaper in the duty free store They offer a drink special with large hand painted margarita glasses at about the middle of the tour my wife loved the mango flavor. If you like the glasses get them there, as they are the same price as DTN, but at least you're getting a drink at this place. The diorama of the ancient civilizations were OK, but again, the info presented at each display was interesting. I thought the diorama of Mexico city wasn't worth walking through. The taco buffet was plentiful and you could tell everything was freshly prepared. We have enthusiastically recommended this tour to friends who will be visiting the island shortly. One final tip: bring a bunch of singles, as you will expected to tip the help that cleans up after the chocolate and tequila tasting. We'd rate this as a 8.5-9 out of 10.
This was a fun day. Making the chocolates and tasting tequila can't be beat. Good times and good food and drinks.
Had a great day on this tour and Carlos the tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable, the dinner buffet was also very good the pork tacos were so good I had to have second helpings.
The tour itself was excellent and so was our guide. The chocolate making was certainly the highlight and lots of fun. And while we didn't think we had much to learn regarding the nuisances of tequila we certainly came away with an expanded knowledge and appreciation for this delectable spirit which has always been a favorite for us. The only thing that was VERY frustrating and aggravating about this experience was that per the voucher we received as confirmation of our booking....it clearly stated that transportation was provided both to AND from the cruise ship location to the site. This was not the case as we were left to find out on our own when we got to port. We managed just fine to get there on our own as we are problem solving people...and there are numerous taxis that are begging to take you wherever you wish to go. Taxi ride was 12 US. What made this disappointing is that the receptionist at the center didn't seem to care at all about our situation when we called that morning and merely said that it was obviously a misprint on the voucher and to find our own way to the site. Ah Hello -- that's kinda a major misprint! Even when we showed the voucher to her/them showing the 'misprint' all she said was...well you are here so its okay. Frustrating to say the least. At any rate, if something similar happens to you do not let it dampen your tour as the tour was very enjoyable and the private guides are great. Its a lot of fun, value added and educational. We would fully recommend the tour. I find it curious that this is the second time I am writing this review and find it interesting how our constructive, honest - yet positive - comments seem to not make it onto the site. Hopefully this time they will.
Note from Viator: Thank you for your comments, please note as per site and your voucher it does only mention the following
Drop-off in downtown Cozumel or port. No where does it mention pick up at the port or hotel. On the voucher it tells you where to meet.
