First of all, this is an excellent tour and one of the highlights of our stay in Peru but wasn't without issues. We had booked the tour for a Monday morning pick up, by 8:10am it was obvious they weren't coming. I rang the contact number and with a small amount of difficulty managed to rearrange for the Wednesday, not ideal as it was our last day in Cusco before flying home but better than nothing. Following a quick briefing at our hotel the night before we were picked up at our hotel as planned. Our guide's English wasn't brilliant but we did manage to get by and the language barrier couldn't disguise his genuine passion for the area and for the condors in particular we really enjoyed his company. The road up to Chonta is not for the faint hearted involving a series of steep switchbacks. Once at the village, we left the van and hiked to the condor viewing platform. The hike is relatively flat but does requires a good level of fitness due to the altitude which is 11,000ft. The scenery is stunning throughout and well worth the effort. We spent a couple of hours at the viewing point and had approximately 15 sightings of condors, some very close. It was such a privilege to see these birds in the wild. One slight disappointment was that our guide took a number of photographs and promised to email them to me this never happened despite a reminder to the company. Overall an excellent tour and an experience I will never forget.
