Disgraceful tour for price
, Oct 2019
While Machu Picchu itself was stunning and we had ample time inside the monument, the abdominal treatment we received during the day tour was a disgrace. We were picked up from our hotel at 3.30am and brought to the train station for 6am. The train arrived at Machu Picchu at 8am. When we met our "tour guide" he never once gave us any itinery for the day and we were left following the crowd to figure out where to go. We only received an English speaking guide at 11am on entry to the monument, and continually had to request guides before to translate in English even though we specifically booked an English speaking guide. We spent about 3 hours in Machu Picchu (loads of time as it is only a one way system) and returned to the train station at 3pm. The return train ticket booked by the company was for 9pm, we were never once informed of this and had no indication of this on booking the tour. We were left trying to fill our time for 6 hours due to this. The train did not arrive until 10pm and we did not get back off the return train until 11.30pm. It is a 2 hour bus journey back to Cusco and the tour company did not have any return bus waiting for us, the fact that we paid CAD370 each for this tour, were female, and nobody again spoke English to us on our return to advise how we were getting home was an absolutely disgrace and downright dangerous. We were so lucky there were some Spanish travellers who translated to English for us. We eventually got a new van called for us that picked us up and drove us home (while driving half of the time on the wrong side of the road to speed up the journey) and then had to walk by ourselves back to our hotel at 1.30am in the morning. I have never had an issue with Viator but it was shameful how this tour company treated us, a 10 hour max tour turned into a 22 hour abomination. I will never book with this tour company again and pity any other travellers who already have.
good morning dear.
We regret what happened on your trip to Machupicchu, but you also have to be honest for the following reason:
1.- We send you a message confirming your reservation and indicating your round-trip train schedules, we also indicate your hotel pick-up time and your return schedule, but you indicate that you were never given this information which is false.
2.- At the time of your arrival in Cusco, I went to your hotel to deliver your tickets, bus train and your income to Machupicchu and I gave you information about your tour.
3.- regarding the guidance. The guide told you that you had to enter Machupichu at 11am, because your ticket was for that time, but you did not want to wait and left on your own, which already blames us for us, because the revenues to Machupicchu are for shifts and schedules that must be respected.
4.- Regarding your train schedule. In your ticket that was delivered to you, there are the round trip schedules, and you said nothing at the time, when I delivered you to your hotel.
5.- Return to Cusco. The bus has waited for you for up to 30 minutes, but they failed to locate you, and we had to leave without you. If you remember that before your trip we told you that you had to be attentive to the call list to get on the bus.
6.- If you wanted to return much earlier to Cusco, you should have informed us and we could change your train schedule, but you never told us anything.
7.- We have attended to hundreds of tourists and have never had any complaints regarding trains, guides or transport.
8 .- Finally we appreciate your opinion that respectable and accepted to improve in some details.
The tour on Sept. 17 went very well, although we had a problem initially because we cannot contact Interfun the tour operator. The night before the tour I asked Viator to provide alternative local tour operator which they did. I stayed 2 hours in the phone with Karissa Mae who did excellent job of finding and contacting Dennys the other local tour operator who made the necessary arrangements. He came personally to our hotel in Cusco to deliver our train tickets, arranged for our rides, English tour guide in Machu Picchu and hotel. He keeps on calling us to make sure we are OK. I also got my refund from my first booking to Viator a week after cancellation.
