What You Can Expect

Litchfield National Park Day Tour from Darwin

Termite Mound

Take a break from the urban bustle on a full-day escape to Litchfield National Park. After morning pickup at your Darwin hotel or a central meeting point, soak up the scenery and listen to your guide’s narration on the approximately 2-hour drive to the park. As you approach, you’ll be greeted by inspiring views of Tabletop Range, a sandstone plateau adorned with a curtain of cascading waterfalls.
Inside the park, marvel at giant cathedral termite mounds and learn how these astonishing structures are built by armies of tiny insects. Continue on to Florence Falls, where a 135-step stairway leads to an enchanting natural swimming hole. Take a refreshing dip if you like, and enjoy the surrounding monsoon forest.
Rest and recharge with a cold buffet lunch at the Litchfield Café, where you can indulge in a slice of famous cheesecake. After lunch, travel to nearby Wangi Falls, where year-round currents pour into a large swimming hole. Go in for another swim (during drier months), or simply admire the lush rain forest scenery if water levels are too high. Finally, visit one last glorious cascade, Tolmer Falls, which empties into a deep rock pool.
On the return drive to Darwin, relax in the late afternoon light and listen to local Aboriginal legends about the park’s ancient attractions. Your tour concludes with drop-off back at your Darwin hotel in the evening.

Great tour. Went to Florence Falls, Tolmer Falls, Wangi Falls and the termite mounds. Our driver, Dale, was very informative and was very considerate of all passengers. One of the highlights was having a swim at Florence Falls pool. Most refreshing. I would recommend taking this tour!!

Great day out with Deb who was an excellent guide and kept us all amused and interested on our journey. A very good lunch provided and after quite a long wet season the waterfalls were spectacular.

We enjoyed the trip out to the natural environment around Darwin, and especially the friendly, highly informative commentary from Jeff our tour guide and driver. We learned quite a lot, and it was worth the extremely uncomfortable heat and sweatiness to see the lovely waterfalls and water holes. Those who have some mobility issues should be aware that the Florence Falls swim is only accessible via about 160 steps, but there is a good viewing platform right at the top, so going down the stairs is not essential for seeing, only for swimming. We like the view at Wongi Falls where we were right down at pool level with no stairs involved.....but no swimming either given the local croc population!

Simon was not only a great guide but also was very careful with people's health as it was very hot and humid. He had a large supply of cold water and constantly encouraged people to stay hydrated. Florence fall plunge pool was closed but Wangi falls pool was amazing. With one closed it would have been nice to have skipped it and spend more time at the other. Termite mounds were very interesting.
