Rocky Mountain National Park Day Trip from Denver

Continental Divide

Some of the most beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains lies just a short drive from Denver. Your full-day tour begins with pickup at Denver Union Station. Learn about Colorado’s cultural and geologic history from your driver-guide on the approximately 1-hour drive west into the mountains.
After leaving the bustle of the city behind, begin climbing up the hairpin curves of Berthoud Pass, which crosses the Continental Divide. On the other side of the pass, you’ll be deep in the heart Colorado’s mountain country. Pass through the ski resort town of Winter Park and continue on to the charming town of Grand Lake, where you’ll enjoy a café lunch on the shores of Colorado’s deepest and largest natural lake.
Continue on to enter Rocky Mountain National Park, beloved by locals and visitors alike for its 265,000 acres (107,240 hectares) of pristine mountain landscapes including rugged peaks, alpine meadows and unspoiled lakes. The park is also home to an array of wildlife such as bighorn sheep, elk, moose and black bears, so be sure to keep your camera handy!
On the return trip to Denver, enjoy spectacular mountain vistas as you drive across historic Trail Ridge Road, which peaks over timberline at a breathtaking 12,000 feet (3,658 meters) above sea level. Your 10-hour tour concludes with drop-off at Denver Union Station in the early evening.

It was a very nice experience at the Rocky Mountain National Park at almost 12,000 feet above sea level. Just drink a lot of water to avoid altitude sickness.
There are plenty of restroom breaks, so no worries.
The lunch at The Lodge was good and place is beautiful. You can see the lake and mountains while dining.
Dave, our guide and Amber, our driver, were informative and funny.
The downside is that there in no pick up and drop off from hotels. Either we picked up at the Union Station or the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. For me, it’s convenient
to have your hotel along 16th Street as there are free mall buses along the street without waiting for paid bus or calling for taxi back to your hotel.

We took this trip at the start of our Colorado vacation and it was the perfect start. Our driver was very informative and took the time to stop at all the best places. It was a well-paced day and we were pleased with our introduction to this place. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Great way to cover the park in one very full day. Over 250 miles of gorgeous views with many stops to get out, stretch and enjoy. Mark was a safe driver negotiating many hairpins turns. Narration was interesting and he also answered questions. We were a group of 20 so were on a smaller bus with no bathroom but we stopped often so that was not a problem. Delicious lunch was at a restaurant buffet with hot food with a magnificent view. Pick up at hotel was prompt and courteous. Website says they will drop you off at Cherry Creek Shopping Center at end of tour but they returned everyone to their hotels which was greatly appreciated since it was getting dark.

Absolutely wonderful! Spectacular views from a comfortable bus with a knowledgeable driver. Enough stops for water, gift shopping, and picture-taking. Terrific buffet lunch. A bit of a thrill to sit in a window seat on the right side and look down into sheer drops of hundreds of feet with no guardrails. We saw a number of elk up close as well as other wildlife. Even a bit of snow at the highest elevations 12,000 feet. Dress for cold and wind at the top.

This was a great whole day tour. You get a real appreciation of the geography of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and the wildlife that inhabits the national park. The driver / tour guide Darcy certainly knows all about the local area and its history. We were fortunate on the day as we had ideal weather and we saw lots of wildlife. If you had a camera you could not help but take great photographs. The buffet lunch was great.

With only one day to sightsee, this was a great way to see Rocky Mountain National Park. Don, our tour guide, was very informative and a great driver. Plenty of stops to sightsee and not rushed. Buffet lunch at Grand Lake Lodge delicious with great views. On time with pick up and drop off at hotel.

We really enjoyed this tour, our tour guide was super knowledgable and nice and the plans they made, the stops we made were just right, lunch was fast, easy and delicious. This is a great way to experience the Rocky Mountains if you don't have several days to do it on your own.
