Discover the highlights of Dominica's northwest coast during this full-day trip from Roseau. Following pickup at your Roseau hotel, board your vehicle and travel 45 minutes north along the coast to the Indian River. Listen to a safety briefing and a short introduction to the river and its history before launching your boat. Climb in to the 18-foot (5.5-meter) rowboat made of wood for a 90-minute float down the tranquil river. View local plant and animal life like mangroves and hummingbirds, iguana and egrets. Listen to your guide talk about the natural resources in the area and point out spots where scenes from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie was filmed.
After your leisurely float, board your vehicle for the short drive to Cabrits National Park. See the ruins of the 18th-century Fort Shirley, a British Garrison built to defend the island. Eat a picnic lunch while looking out over views of Portsmouth and Prince Rupert Bay.
Drive a few minutes to the black sands of Purple Turtle Beach, where you'll spend an hour of leisure time swimming and relaxing. End your 6-hour day of adventure in Dominica with the drive back to Roseau and drop-off at your hotel.
