Visit one of Germany’s most beautiful cities on this day trip to Dresden from Prague. Nicknamed the ‘Florence of the Elbe,’ Dresden is brim with baroque and rococo buildings, many raised and rebuilt, phoenix-like, from the ashes of World War II. After traveling from Prague to Dresden by air-conditioned coach, visit the Zwinger Old Masters Gallery to see masterworks including the ‘Sistine Madonna’ by Raphael; admire the domed Frauenkirche (Church of the Virgin Mary); and enjoy the afternoon free to have lunch and explore this resplendent city further at leisure.
  • Discover the beautiful city of Dresden on a full-day trip from Prague
  • See top attractions, such as the Royal Palace, the Church of the Virgin Mary and the Blue Wonder Bridge
  • Visit the famous Zwinger gallery and see its historical artworks
  • Admire paintings by Raphael (Sistine Madonna), Titian, Canaletto, Lucas Cranach and many others.
Leave Prague by air-conditioned coach and travel toward the Czech Republic's northern border with Germany.
As you travel, hear about the history of Dresden from your expert guide. Sitting on the Elbe River and the capital of Germany’s state of Saxony, the city is known as the ‘Florence of the Elbe’ for the glorious rococo and baroque architecture of its center.
On arrival in the late morning, head for the splendid Zwinger Palace, a former royal residence that’s home to a world-famous art collection. Visit the Old Masters Gallery and view the masterpieces such as the Sistine Madonna by Raphael, works by Titian and Canaletto, and paintings by 17th-century Dutch and Flemish masters including Rembrandt and Rubens.
Next, head through the Dresden Castle complex and visit the iconic Church of the Virgin Mary (Frauenkirche), crowned by one of Europe’s largest domes. Admire the baroque masterpiece as you learn how it was rebuilt after its destruction during WWII.
After your guided tour, enjoy free time for lunch (own expense). Perhaps eat at any of the pubs and restaurants along the pedestrianized area of Weisse Gasse, before enjoying more free time to sightsee or shop on your own.
If you wish, admire the grandiose Semper Opera House, where premieres of works by Richard Wagner were held in the 1800s; or stroll along the Elbe to see the Blue Wonder, a steel bridge declared a miracle of engineering on its completion in 1893.
Finally, travel back to Prague, where your tour ends at the starting point.

I am not sure where to start with this review. First, I emailed 5 times to confirm this trip and never got a response once! Our hotel had to call and confirm for us. Upon pick up and going to the main meeting location, we picked up a family that could not have been more annoying and ruined the trip overall! The older mother, along with her middle aged son, were so chatty during the tour guides talks that she literally had to ask her twice to be quiet, which never worked. The chatty family ruined the whole experience for all on the bus. Like the tour guide said to her, we paid to hear her talk about history and the sights and all we heard her do was teach her granddaughters german and talk about their recent time in Paris. If you wanted to be that rude to others around you, hire your own private tour! They were so rude and I've never had a trip like this ruined by such rude people! The tour guide herself was OK in the end, but spent way too much time trying to get people to do the VAT tax return forms. We get it after the first time, it didn't need to be explained over and over and over again. She was a bit over the top and felt a bit unorganized as we walked all over the place in circles sometimes. In Dresden, the gallery we paid for to see was closed and that was disappointing. Don't offer a tour on a day when you sell the gallery and you know it's going to be closed on Monday's. Very disappointed in this trip.

They let a 1 year old baby on this trip that all he did was kick and scream for hours on the bus to and from. That shouldn’t be allowed. Expect to not have much of a “tour” either. It’s really just transportation to and from Dresden for a couple hours there to eat and walk around.

It was 3 out of 5 .The place is like a living museum .The tour guide does not elaborate well the essentiale need during that long trip.I am not aware that they can only pick up to the hotel but not drop off.

We lucked out and managed to be the only couple on the tour since it was mid December and a Monday. Because of the time of year we went and the fact that it was a Monday, many buildings were closed for the season or for the day so we didn't get a chance to see as much as we wanted but the many beautiful Christmas markets made up for some of the disappointment. No where ever on Viator was it ever mentioned the winter closures and Monday closures so do your homework on opening hours. Out guide Jan, was wonderful and was a great driver. Dresden is a must see any time of the year and this tour is money well spent.

Great driver and our guide was wonderful as well. Enjoyed the tour although I was feeling ill. My guide help me get some OTC medicine to help me feel better. I'm sorry I can't remember her name as she was just so nice! Dresden was gorgous...beautiful, historic buildings...we loved it!

This was the biggest disappointment I have ever had from a tour company. It felt disorganized, the guide and the driver disinterested and the worst part was we did not get what was described in the inclusions. I booked the tour the day before online and called to confirm hotel pick up, I was told that was impossible because the driver was already picking up others from their hotels and would not have time to get us. Ok, I could accept that if it were true. When got ourselves to the meeting point and found another person waiting for the tour and an other couple. So apparently the driver hadnt been busy getting anyone from their hotel. The Five of us were driven to Dresden in a small mini van to Dresden while the guide remained silent. From the description, I was under the impression were were going to get some history during the drive. After a stop so the driver could get some lunch, which the rest of us used for a bathroom break we continued to Dresden. Upon arrival we exited the mini van and followed the guide to the Green Vault. The guide bought us tickets and left after we entered the first floor exhibit. The five of us walked through and met in the reception hall for over an hour not knowing where our guide was. We were told the guide had bought the least expensive tickets and although there were 3 floors we were only allowed in the first floor. One of the couples said they thought she said she was going to meet us there in two hours. The guide spoke so softly and did not make sure we all had an understanding of the itinerary. We were all confused as to what the agenda was supposed to be. Upon her return I asked her why we had been left there so long and all that time was wasted. She ignored my question and asked if we enjoyed the upstairs exhibits and I informed her she bought the wrong tickets. She said I must have misunderstood the staff there because she said she bought the full tour. I went to the ticket window and confirmed she in fact only bought the partial tour. When I explained that to our guide she didnt even apologize for her error. We then left the there and took a short walk around the historic part of the city, which was beautiful, as she explained a few things about the city and then walked to lunch. I asked at lunch what was the itinerary for the rest of the day and she said were were done and would be driving home after lunch. I asked about the other Zwinger gallery that was part of the tour and was told it was closed today. Northing was offered as a substitution and no disclosure was made that it may be closed until I asked. We also didnt see the Blue Bridge, not sure what we missed there. And finally no free time to shop or wonder on our own. This was almost a total waste of money and a waste of precious time in Europe. I should also mention the driver was an impatient driver and would abruptly break an accelerate. Not fun in a tiny mini van. Grayline should be embarrassed about this excursion. Im glad others had a positive experience but for the five of us, it was a bad experience. Btw no bathroom break on the way back to Prague, it seemed to be a race to get us back so the guide and driver could be done with their day. Take a train save yourself the money!

Wonderful view of reconscructed city. Dresden was desolated in WW2 and has some of the most striking examples of archtecture, including the amazing Semper Oper, Swinger Gallerie with its old masters and Residenz Schloss. The vision of the city on the elbe and yes the informative tour direct from Prague taking in beautiful chechz and german countryside.
