In the late afternoon, depart your central Dubai hotel by private, air-conditioned minivan. With your private driver-guide at the wheel, cruise into the desert that surrounds Dubai.
As you travel, hear about the local ecology and the efforts to preserve the flora and fauna of this natural wilderness.
After roughly an hour, pull up at a royal retreat among the dunes. Owned by members of the local royal family, the camp sits in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, a protected area dedicated to helping preserve the desert ecosystem.
On arrival, swap your minivan for your private wildlife-watching vehicle, with a private driver. Hop inside a vintage 1950s Land Rover, or if you’ve upgraded (summer only), settle into a luxurious Range Rover.
Then, as darkness falls, drive around the twilit dunes and plains in search of wildlife. As you roam, learn how the reserve is home to Arabian oryx, gazelles, hares and many other creatures. Hear how both nocturnal and even some daylight animals use the cool and cover of evening to feed and forage.
Soak in the stillness and watch the headlight beams to detect any movement in the sands. Use the provided night-vision binoculars to zoom in on any animals you spot.
After your approximately 1.5-hour drive, savor a 2-course dinner at the torchlit camp. Smoke a shisha (Arabic water pipe) if you wish, and with tips from an astronomer guide, scan the star-spangled sky to learn about the constellations above.
Later, return to Dubai, where your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off.
