What You Can Expect

Red Dune Bashing in Dubai Including Desert Camp Experience with BBQ Dinner

See the sun set over Dubai's dunes on this desert experience

Start your experience with a 4x4 pickup from your central Dubai hotel and zoom into the desert around the city. Upgrade option available for a private pickup.

On route, listen as your guide shares information about the region and how Dubai rose from a fishing port into a cosmopolitan, wealthy city on the back of the discovery of oil during the 1950s and 1960s. See the light brown sands gradually shift into vivid orange and pink hues, and watch as the flat expanses crinkle up into undulating dunes all in a kaleidoscope of deep reds and golds.

Head off road into an area of bright red dunes known as the Lahbab region. Have your camera ready to capture what look like giant beanbags of sands, and then hold tight you cruise toward the highest slopes. Then, feel the adrenaline race as your 4x4 ploughs up the dunes before sliding and slipping back down the slopes, churning up billowing clouds of sands in the process.

Afterward, take pictures of the sunset from the dunes before driving on to a Bedouin-style camp hidden in the middle of the desert.
Enter the torchlit camp and settle inside a cushion-strewn tent. Savor some fresh Arabian coffee and dates, and smoke a shisha (water pipe) if you wish.

Then, take your pick of desert activities. Perhaps take a camel ride, surf the dunes on a sandboard and get a henna tattoo painted on your hands or feet. If you fancy upping the pace, take an exciting buggy ride (additional cost) over the sands.

As dusk falls, dig into a scrumptious barbecue dinner of dishes such as kebabs, hummus and salads accompanied by sodas and mineral water, and additional drinks (own expense) from the bar.

While you eat, enjoy a colorful belly dancing show and tanoura performance, where fast-spinning dancers whirl across the stage along with a Falcon show.

Finally, return to Dubai by 4x4, where your experience concludes with a hotel drop-off.

The red dune bashing desert safari was simply amazing. Enjoyed every second of it. Rode on quad bikes which was awesome at a small extra fee but highly recommended, the dune bashing with the 4X4 was thrilling and we had so much fun, didn't want it to end. Sunset in the desert was spectacular. BBQ was delicious. Good value for money! Our guide was Mr. Jabeel, he was the best!

I enjoyed this - but room for improvement

Pick up was seriously late - but this was due to the delays caused by another tour participant that flowed onto ourselves. The company representative communicated this issue so we were not left feeling abandoned.

The tour and driver was very good and pleasant, be aware of motion sickness for those weak of stomach.

Leaving the dunes for the BBQ dinner - another vehicle had a technical malfunction lost a tyre, our driver stayed to assist which caused a further delay. Personally, I support the driver to do this I often drive in outback Australia - its good practice to stop and assist others - as you may require the same one day. But a couple of tour participants were cranky about this. In my opinion - the driver made the right call to assist the other vehicle.

We missed a lot of the dancing at the dinner because of the above delays - but didn't bother me too much. Dinner was simple - but good.

Improvements that can be made
1 While tour participants at the BBQ dinner - driver should re-pressurise the tyres, rather than waiting until after dinner and doing this with passengers on board.
2 Driver should ensure plenty of fuel on board, so no need to stop to refuel with passengers on board.
