What You Can Expect

Red Dune Bashing in Dubai Including Desert Camp Experience with BBQ Dinner

See the sun set over Dubai's dunes on this desert experience

Start your experience with a 4x4 pickup from your central Dubai hotel and zoom into the desert around the city. Upgrade option available for a private pickup.

On route, listen as your guide shares information about the region and how Dubai rose from a fishing port into a cosmopolitan, wealthy city on the back of the discovery of oil during the 1950s and 1960s. See the light brown sands gradually shift into vivid orange and pink hues, and watch as the flat expanses crinkle up into undulating dunes all in a kaleidoscope of deep reds and golds.

Head off road into an area of bright red dunes known as the Lahbab region. Have your camera ready to capture what look like giant beanbags of sands, and then hold tight you cruise toward the highest slopes. Then, feel the adrenaline race as your 4x4 ploughs up the dunes before sliding and slipping back down the slopes, churning up billowing clouds of sands in the process.

Afterward, take pictures of the sunset from the dunes before driving on to a Bedouin-style camp hidden in the middle of the desert.
Enter the torchlit camp and settle inside a cushion-strewn tent. Savor some fresh Arabian coffee and dates, and smoke a shisha (water pipe) if you wish.

Then, take your pick of desert activities. Perhaps take a camel ride, surf the dunes on a sandboard and get a henna tattoo painted on your hands or feet. If you fancy upping the pace, take an exciting buggy ride (additional cost) over the sands.

As dusk falls, dig into a scrumptious barbecue dinner of dishes such as kebabs, hummus and salads accompanied by sodas and mineral water, and additional drinks (own expense) from the bar.

While you eat, enjoy a colorful belly dancing show and tanoura performance, where fast-spinning dancers whirl across the stage along with a Falcon show.

Finally, return to Dubai by 4x4, where your experience concludes with a hotel drop-off.

There are many trips to the desert, but I specifically choose this one to see the red dunes. It was a great experience and a lot of fun. The dunes are reddish in comparison to the beige colored dunes you pass along the way to the camp. It's stunning when the sun sets on them. You have the option to rent a quad additional cost and drive over the dunes - great fun. Next event is to get back in your Land Cruiser, and your driver drives you all over the dunes at a fast pace. The driver makes the trip - Our driver, Amer Brown, was the best and made sure we had a good time. At sunset, you stop and do some sand surfing. The guides and drivers are great, offering to take photos of you as the sun sets behind you, so you have some great pictures to take home. After sunset, you drive to the desert camp for a BBQ dinner and belly dancing entertainment. There are little shops in the camp where you can get a henna tattoo, purchase pottery, purchase wine to go with your dinner, and take a short camel ride. It's a great adventure not to be missed while in Dubai.

Really good tour and an experience not to be missed! Our driver, Mohamed, made the tour even better. Well attentive, greatly organised and a really funny guy!

Absolutely the best thing you can do in Dubai! So much was included in this tour - only the dune buggy ride was optional and at an additional expense. Otherwise, the afternoon/evening was packed. The dinner was great, got a henna tattoo, and smoked shisha. The ride through the desert was so much fun! No one in our rover got sick, although bags for that purpose were provided. It was a wild ride but I'm 65 and thoroughly enjoyed it! Mr. Brown was our driver and he was the best! He made sure everyone got to have the greatest experience. You MUST do this tour!

Great experience! Got picked up in a reasonably well maintained Land Cruiser fitted with roll bars and driven from our hotel for about an hour to a rather sketchy rest area type place with a store and some poorly maintained bathrooms. There were the typical vendors trying to sell trinkets, headscarves which we ultimately bought and were actually very useful in the desert, camel rides, etc. There was an opportunity to ride 4-wheelers and dirt bikes on the sand for an additional fee which we declined. This rest area served as a type of meeting place for all the other cars that were out gathering tourists from their various hotels and we ended up waiting for quite a long time before it was time to move on. Once everyone was gathered, we drove out into the actual desert, and this is where the adventure began! Dune bashing driving over the sand dunes at what seems like much too high speed and sliding wildly is no joke! These guys have been doing it for years and are extremely skilled but if you are prone to motion sickness or are delicate in any way, this is not for you! It is an exhilarating ride and we were in no actual danger but it is like a wild rollercoaster ride! You have your heart in your throat on more than one occasion. Halfway through the trip we stopped at some predetermined place in the middle of the sand and we rode a snowboard type slide down the sand hills. You can sit or stand on it. Super fun! Then the trip continues through the sand, briefly back on the road, then back on the sand to a beduin camp. It's not real of course, but well done and a great time. Here you can ride camels, get a henna tattoo, eat a surprisingly good buffet dinner, and watch a couple of shows including a pretty good belly dancer. All that is included in the price. Alcohol can be purchased we deemed it necessary after the crazy ride! at an additional cost. At the end, we all loaded back up and drove on the road back to our hotel. Everyone in our party agreed that it was a highlight of our Dubai trip! Well worth it!

Our tour guide took us on an amazing Red Dune Bashing Tour. It gave my team more adrenaline than being on a rollercoaster! We were delightfully surprised. You should definitely try this if you are not queasy or scare easily and are looking for a fun experience in the desert. Worth the money!

Amazing day with our driver Siddique!!! Although sometime I almost died because of my vertigo, we enjoyed the 45 minutes of ride in the dunes. We had the best photos at sunset in the dessert!!! The food was ok but we get without enough time to enjoy shisha and the dancing. The 3 camells were suffering

This was such an amazing trip and worth the money. We took our 4 year old son who had a blast! Our driver, Yousef, was very engaging and told us many great stories on the ride to pick up other passengers and the destination. He also was very professional and did not give up trying to find us when the directions got mixed up. You could tell Yousef had passion for driving in the sand dunes and his excitement pumped us up! It was fantastic. If you have slight motion sickness, this may not be the trip for you. On the way to the dunes we stopped at a mini mart for the restrooms and snacks. You get picked up around 3PM but dinner is not until 8PM. There are also people selling souvenirs. At the dunes we felt safe in the truck, thanks to our driver and we had plenty of time to take photos in the desert with a beautiful backdrop. At the camp, lots of activities were set up for us like henna, camel rides, sand boarding, falcon pictures and the waterpipe. There are also items not included in our tour that you have access to for an extra price. There was not a dull moment. We were able to see a beautiful sunset while sipping on Arabian Coffee and eating dates. We were treated to 2 shows while we ate our hearts out on hummus, kabobs, pasta, salads and more. I really have nothing negative to say except that it had to end.
