What You Can Expect

Howth Day Trip from Dublin including Howth Castle

Explore the ancient fishing village of Howth

Greet your expert guide in central Dublin and climb aboard a modern train for the short and scenic journey to Howth, a spectacular landscape replete with dramatic cliffs and undulating green hills. Allow your guide to share intimate knowledge of the region’s rich historical heritage, and then head to Howth Castle, an ancient structure that gazes solemnly out to sea.

Gaze at sweeping vistas of the crashing Atlantic Ocean from Howth Castle’s hilltop perch and look out for the skyline of Dublin, which is visible on particularly clear days. Delve into the castle’s intriguing history before visiting Viking ruins, a Neolithic stone monument and W. B. Yeats’ boyhood home.

Appease your appetite with a traditional Irish lunch at Summit restaurant; feast upon freshly caught seafood and local specialties for a discounted price, and then return to the train station for the relaxing ride back to Dublin. Opt to stay in Howth for longer if you wish without your guide.

Loved this walking tour! So nice to get out of the city into the countryside and enjoy the seaside. Wonderful day, nice small group, informative guide, lovely outdoor walking experience. Seals, lighthouses, cliff trails, castle, beautiful forest woodland. It is a lot of walking though with hills!, more than I expected. Also, no real lunchtime until the tour ended at 2 pm. I brought snacks/water, and we had a chance to stop atop the hill overlooking the far lighthouse for a quick bite to eat.

Great guided tour of the Howth cliffs! John was our guide and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend having a good meal prior to going and packing a snack also water for the hike as it takes a little while to get to the Summit where you have lunch not included in price at the Summit Pub. It's not a hard hike but a hike nevertheless, the hike down was more challenging as you are going through the forest, rocks, and downhill. Lots of time for taking pictures too. And you do get time to explore Howth after as your train ticket is good for that day.

Excellent guide and tour content. Description of tour does not do it justice! From the train journey, meeting fellow walkers from all over the world, to the walk itself with breathtaking scenery peppered with charming and funny anecdotes, it was a great day out! Left to wander Howth at end was an added bonus with the harbour and restaurants to explore. Much needed after a very frenetic Dublin!
