What To Expect
After selecting a tour time to suit your schedule, greet your personal guide outside of the Irish Whiskey Museum and commence your tour of the cultural institution. Embark on a journey to the origin of the ‘water of life’, a name for whiskey coined by the Irish in the 19th century.
Learn about the cultural heritage of whiskey from your informative guide and hear of how the demise of the drink was brought on by the devastating Potato Famine. Listen to entertaining anecdotes surrounding whiskey, and its mind-altering effects, as you browse the interactive exhibits within the museum.
Conclude your tour with a whiskey tasting session, sniffing and tasting the tipple for maximum enjoyment. Opt to upgrade your experience to enjoy premium aged whiskey and to receive a complimentary souvenir as a memento of your experience.
Bid your guide farewell after the tasting, choosing to purchase souvenirs from the gift shop or a drink at the bar if you desire.
Irish Whiskey Museum
Make your way to the Irish Whiskey Museum to meet your guide and begin your 1-hour whiskey experience. Located in the heart of Dublin’s city center beside the famous Trinity College, the museum can be easily reached by bus, Luas and DART lines.
Choose a tour time that suits you, and then set off on an enlightening journey through the history of Irish whiskey. Affectionately called 'uisce beatha' (Gaelic for 'water of life'), the Irish have been distilling the spirit for centuries.
In the 19th century, whiskey was the drink of choice in Ireland and across many parts of the world, but the Irish Potato Famine, Prohibition and various wars all contributed to the drink’s demise. As you make your way through the museum, trace the rise, fall and recent resurgence of Irish whiskey, and listen to your guide share stories about whiskey through the ages and examine displays of rare whiskey memorabilia.
End your experience with a whiskey tasting. Take a deep sniff of the powerful spirit, before tasting the smooth tipple. If you’ve chosen to upgrade your experience, you’ll get to sample a premium aged whiskey and take a souvenir home as a memento of your experience.
The tour concludes after the tasting, but you may wish to head to the retail area to pick up some whiskey merchandise or visit the bar, where you can sample more of the golden elixir in a range of whiskey-based cocktails (own expense).

Of all the tours, I was especially looking forward to this one. It exceeded all my expectations. Learn a lot. History and whiskies all in one. The way the lady conveyed the history of whiskey to us is so vivid and striking that I will not forget it for the rest of my life.

I booked the Irish whiskey museum and paid for it and got confirmation back and my ticket. I planned my day around it and got there at the correct time and the gates were locked. No sign or anything. Spoke to the tourist information he tells me it has been closed since March.. why are you still selling tickets when it is closed. I have sent email and have heard nothing back yet. I hope my money will be refunded very quickly!

Laura W was amazing! Very friendly and funny. Really made our trip enjoyable!! Loved the whiskey tasting at the end- Laura W was very knowledgeable about all the different types! Would definitely recommend.
Great! -- primarily because of the tour host, Janet.
rbali2000, Feb 2020
Janet, the tour host was exceptionally knowledgeable and very good -- deserves a 5 star rating.
However, at the tasting table, there were only 3 tasters instead of tasters for all the 4 styles. There was no complementary glass. And above all, when the 5 pm tour ended, the in-house bar had closed, which was a bit of a dampener -- hence, the overall 4 star rating.
Suggestion: There should also be a small explanatory brochure/flier given to the guests, as a keepsake, explaining the different types/'styles' of whiskeys and their origin or evolution -- would be a good informative and educational memoir, from the Irish Whiskey Museum!

It was a good tour except for not having enough places to sit while tour guy talked about history. The first 2 rooms we went into did not have enough seating or the tour was too big for what you can accommodate...for older people it's tough standing for so long... but the info we received and the tasting where fun..

Avoid this disgusting place!!! No customer service whatsoever, find a better way to spend your money than this tourist trap.

One of our favorites in the entire trip! We had done a brewery and a distillery, but this wasn't that- this was more of a cultural history of Irish Whiskey, what sets it apart, how it inspired so much commerce, stories, how it played in every day life of the Irish and the rest of the world. Our guide, Andrew, was absolutely hilarious and knew so much on the topic I'm a Somm, I know A LOT, he actually taught me a few thing. We laughed, we learned, we had fun and we drank at the end- both as part of the tour and in the whiskey bar after to try more rare drams you can't get in the States. Could have spent more time there, just trying their flights and learning tips from EVERYONE who worked there!

Great tour!! The Irish Whiskey Museum is in a great location, by Trinity College. Our Do Dublin Hop on Hop off bus stopped on the corner. Paul, our guide was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and kept us interested. This museum is a must! I purchased the tickets for husband, but I ended up really enjoying the tour. Paul educates you on the history of Irish Whiskey as well as how it is made and packaged as well as the different types and brands of Whiskeys. You also get to do a sampling. I had the classic sampling package which included 3 whiskeys, we upgraded my husband to the premium sampling once we got to the museum, for a few extra Euro which included 4 whiskeys and a free Glencairn glass! Highly recommend this tour!

This was probably my favorite tour in all of Ireland. It is a nice little museum, with great displays. There is an excellent bar inside with a nice selection of whiskeys, so I hit it up and had a few shots before taking the tour. Our tour guide, Cait, definitely knew her stuff. She had a nice sense of humor, and was able to to explain things well for people who are new to whiskey, but also knew a lot to converse with people who are a little more knowledgeable on the subject. She definitely made the tour better. I recommend getting the advanced experience to try more variety of whiskeys at the end of the tour. The museum is also conveniently located across the street from Trinity College, so you can easily knock out two birds with one stone.

This was a good tour to try a bunch of different Irish Whiskeys. The other tours only offer their own brands, but this one offers all kinds of brands and is a true representation of Irish Whiskey.

Our tour guide was Mark. He was highly engaging! Very animated and made sure to engage all of his audience members who came from different nations. There were a few set backs in technology not responding, but he was able to think on his toes. It showed his mastery of the subject. My friend and I enjoyed the whiskey tasting the premium - 4 tastings rather than the classic in which you only taste 3. For 5 GBP more, why not? The only MINOR issue I had was being a little rushed to finish our drinks because another tour group was coming. Albeit I enjoy whiskey and I had no problem downing them, but I wanted to chill and enjoy it further which I was not able to.
