Irish Whiskey Museum
Make your way to the Irish Whiskey Museum to meet your guide and begin your 1-hour whiskey experience. Located in the heart of Dublin’s city center beside the famous Trinity College, the museum can be easily reached by bus, Luas and DART lines.
Choose a tour time that suits you, and then set off on an enlightening journey through the history of Irish whiskey. Affectionately called 'uisce beatha' (Gaelic for 'water of life'), the Irish have been distilling the spirit for centuries.
In the 19th century, whiskey was the drink of choice in Ireland and across many parts of the world, but the Irish Potato Famine, Prohibition and various wars all contributed to the drink’s demise. As you make your way through the museum, trace the rise, fall and recent resurgence of Irish whiskey, and listen to your guide share stories about whiskey through the ages and examine displays of rare whiskey memorabilia.
End your experience with a whiskey tasting. Take a deep sniff of the powerful spirit, before tasting the smooth tipple. If you’ve chosen to upgrade your experience, you’ll get to sample a premium aged whiskey and take a souvenir home as a memento of your experience.
The tour concludes after the tasting, but you may wish to head to the retail area to pick up some whiskey merchandise or visit the bar, where you can sample more of the golden elixir in a range of whiskey-based cocktails (own expense).
Great! -- primarily because of the tour host, Janet.
, Feb 2020
Janet, the tour host was exceptionally knowledgeable and very good -- deserves a 5 star rating.
However, at the tasting table, there were only 3 tasters instead of tasters for all the 4 styles. There was no complementary glass. And above all, when the 5 pm tour ended, the in-house bar had closed, which was a bit of a dampener -- hence, the overall 4 star rating.
Suggestion: There should also be a small explanatory brochure/flier given to the guests, as a keepsake, explaining the different types/'styles' of whiskeys and their origin or evolution -- would be a good informative and educational memoir, from the Irish Whiskey Museum!
It was a good tour except for not having enough places to sit while tour guy talked about history. The first 2 rooms we went into did not have enough seating or the tour was too big for what you can accommodate...for older people it's tough standing for so long... but the info we received and the tasting where fun..
One of our favorites in the entire trip! We had done a brewery and a distillery, but this wasn't that- this was more of a cultural history of Irish Whiskey, what sets it apart, how it inspired so much commerce, stories, how it played in every day life of the Irish and the rest of the world. Our guide, Andrew, was absolutely hilarious and knew so much on the topic I'm a Somm, I know A LOT, he actually taught me a few thing. We laughed, we learned, we had fun and we drank at the end- both as part of the tour and in the whiskey bar after to try more rare drams you can't get in the States. Could have spent more time there, just trying their flights and learning tips from EVERYONE who worked there!
Great tour!! The Irish Whiskey Museum is in a great location, by Trinity College. Our Do Dublin Hop on Hop off bus stopped on the corner. Paul, our guide was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and kept us interested. This museum is a must! I purchased the tickets for husband, but I ended up really enjoying the tour. Paul educates you on the history of Irish Whiskey as well as how it is made and packaged as well as the different types and brands of Whiskeys. You also get to do a sampling. I had the classic sampling package which included 3 whiskeys, we upgraded my husband to the premium sampling once we got to the museum, for a few extra Euro which included 4 whiskeys and a free Glencairn glass! Highly recommend this tour!
This was probably my favorite tour in all of Ireland. It is a nice little museum, with great displays. There is an excellent bar inside with a nice selection of whiskeys, so I hit it up and had a few shots before taking the tour. Our tour guide, Cait, definitely knew her stuff. She had a nice sense of humor, and was able to to explain things well for people who are new to whiskey, but also knew a lot to converse with people who are a little more knowledgeable on the subject. She definitely made the tour better. I recommend getting the advanced experience to try more variety of whiskeys at the end of the tour. The museum is also conveniently located across the street from Trinity College, so you can easily knock out two birds with one stone.
This tour was amazing. It was so nice to do something a little different than a normal distillery. Our tour guide Ellen was adorable! She was super funny, entertaining, and so informative. Would HIGHLY recommend this tour!!!!!!!
