This tour was amazing! Wild Rover Tours really came through on this tour.
First of all, the accommodations were first rate - new coach with free WiFi. That way we could post pictures along the way. If only they had a way to charge my phone I ran the battery down using it so much to take pictures!. Our tour guide JP was very knowledgeable and well-spoken. He was able to add humor to the facts and stories about the areas we were seeing. Note - The tour direction changes with the season. Since we were traveling in February, we did Glendalough first and Kilkenny last so we could see the mountains in full daylight.
Glendalough is definitely a must-see! It sits near two lakes so you get not only ruins of the monastic site but also a nature trail. The scenery is stunning and the history of the place makes it feel almost alive. We were there on a cold and snowy day but still loved every minute of it. Our next stop was the Wicklow National Park. This one required a little imagination. During the winter, it's grand but somewhat lacking in greenery. From what I've been told, the summer brings blooming heather turning the hillsides purple and green. I really enjoyed seeing the contrast of these mountains to the ones I live in.
The final stop of the tour was Kilkenny. While the area was a bit more urban than I anticipated, it was definitely a great place to roam. JP gave a 40-minute tour of Kilkenny Castle and the surrounding area however, we were hungry and cold so we wandered around on our own. You are given about 2 hours in the town. The food was great Matt the Millers, the shopping plentiful, and there are lots of beautiful churches and buildings to view. Don't miss the Black Abbey - stunning!! At the end of the tour, we drove back to Dublin and were dropped off near O'Connell Bridge between Temple Bar and the Trinity College area.
While I loved this tour and would definitely go again, there area few items which would have been helpful to know up front. First of all - the coach is very prompt. Be at your meeting places early. If you're with a group, I'd suggest joining the tour at the first stop and not the last. That increases the likelihood of sitting together. Be outside and not inside waiting for the charter so you won't miss it. I'd suggest finding a hotel near O'Connell Street. This will make sure you're centrally located for both pick up and drop off.
Hope you choose this tour if you happen to have time in Dublin. It's definitely worth it!!!
Wicklow Mountains National Park is stunning. We had time to explore the monastic settlement, and some of the nature trails, boardwalk, and waterfall beyond. Many twisty, windy country roads. If you get carsick, like me, sit up front.. Kilkenny was a charming small city, and the local craft shop had a wonderful selection, from locally made artisan chocolates, to natural soaps, Irish woolen scarves, and a lovely children's section. I would have preferred 1/2 hr less in Kilkenny. It was a long day, with a lot of walking.
Conor the tour guide and uncle Frank the driver turned this tour into an amazing day. It was worth every penny. Well organized and had enough time for a walk to the lakes in Glendalough, and a walk through the village in Kilkenny, with Conor showing us the highlights of the place. Thanks!
This tour is a must do if you have never been to Ireland. Our tour guide Conor and driver Sarah kept the tour on time and within minutes of the advertised length. Conor used the travel between destinations to explain the up coming stop and connect it historically to the previous ones. He had a lively personality and kept the tour interactive. I especially appreciated his passion for his heritage and his countries history. Each stop was distinctly different and the views of county side between stops was beautiful as well. This tour makes me want to return to Ireland to spend more time.
Ireland was full of friends we had never met before. The Hotel Harding was a second home. Meals went from splendid to better than that. See photos. The tours, the tour guides, the landscape, were a well-matched combination of wonderful scenery and Irish wit. If we had the money, I'd go every month...
This was by far my favorite tour while in Ireland! The sights were magnificent, the bus was clean, and the tour guides, Richard and Richard were by far the best guides! They made for the most pleasant day!
One of my favorite tours while in Ireland! The sights were amazing, and the tour guides, Richard and Richard were highly entertaining and well informed! They made for a very pleasant outing!
Great tour with friendly guide Anthony and driver Frank of Rover Dog Tours, fun too. Lots to see and Wicklow Mountains very scenic. Worth taking time to do and good to see the countryside.
glendalough is magic! make sure you take the walk to the two lakes.
Excellent trip. Our guide Jim and driver John were fantastic. Highly recommended. We had a great time.
Great trip, Richard the guide was awesome, it was pouring rain but still managed to make it a fun trip. The scenery is amazing! I realy enjoyed my self.
This was a fantastic tour run by Wild Rover. Our guide Yoan made the day even better with his knowledge of history, language and especially his sense of humor! Everything was organized, punctual, and yet relaxed and enjoyable!
We really enjoyed this tour. The guide was great and really made it worthwhile. We could not have done this on our own and have had the understanding and context that she provided to all that we saw. We saw a lot that day between Kilkenny and Glendalough and would have like to have spent more time at both but the tradeoff was worth it given the quality of our guide.
The tour guide and the driver were terrific. The tour was very well done. We had plenty of time to do what we needed and did learn about the area. I know now that I would love to spend more time in Kilkenny -- maybe on the next trip
This tour was wonderful. Our tour guide was very nice and the bus driver equally so. We had enough time time to explore the sites on our own and also a guided tour was offered at each stop. This is the only tour I booked on my very limited time in Dublin and it was a great choice.
Road rover tours was amazing, they are very engaging with everybody, they make sure everybody is happy and enjoying them selves. This was such an amazing tour make sure you have walking comfortable shoes. We stopped at the wickelow gap, kilkenny castle and glendaugh park. Loved it!!!!
Castle impresses with its medieval greatness and perfect appearance.
I liked it and I was imprsionat!
For anyone interested m: Worth Visiting!
One of the best tours I took - great value incredible destinations and great guide.
This tour was really interesting. We had plenty of time at stops to enjoy the venues. The guide, Richard, and the driver, Jack were great. They were professional, informative and entertaining at times. The tour bus was in excellent condition. I really liked that this company picked us all up at the various stops, in the bus and with the team that we would be with throughout the tour. Other companies do not do this and it wastes time and is not as professional.
We enjoyed this trip.Peter the guide was very friendly, cheerful and amusing and knew a lot about the history and told it in away that was not boring.
John the driver was also friendly and cheerful.
The downside for us was we book 4 tickets to go as a group but as we were on the last pick up point we all had to sit separate.
Loved trip and our guide. Beautiful and fun. Edinburgh and Scotland and Scottish people are fabulous! Of course. If I come over the pond again, I and #39;ll be in touch for more of your tours. God bless Scotland and the USA! Elizabeth (Anne) Moore
