Learn what makes Dubrovnik so special by booking this informative walking tour. Meet your guide just outside Pile Gate. Lead by a knowledgeable local guide, the tour takes in the limestone-paved streets of the city’s Stari Grad (Old Town), and uncovers the real story behind the city’s churches, monasteries and palaces. Walk the 1.2-mile (2-km) walls (entrance fee not included), which were first built in the 12th century, and get a different viewpoint of the city, as the shimmering Adriatic Sea dazzles you from a distance.

As you stroll, get an insider’s view of the history of Dubrovnik, from the 11th century when a sea channel, in what is now Stari Grad, was filled in. Learn also about the landmarks Fort Revelin and Minceta Tower. In the distance, you’ll see Fort Lovrijenac, the only fort that belongs to the city walls but is physically separated from them.

Listen to your guide regale stories from the city’s long and rich history, about how it was an autonomous republic buttressing both the Ottoman and the Venetian Empires. Your tour then finishes near the port.
*Entrance fee to City Walls not included in price.

Old Town
We enter the old town, then head towards the city walls entrance.
Stop At:
Walls of Dubrovnik
We will stop to buy the city walls tickets and then we will walk the city walls. Marvel at the beautiful blue colors of the Adriatic Sea and admire breathtaking views of the port and the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while your guide takes you through the history of the city walls. In the 11th century, the sea channel separating the city from mainland was covered up with earth, so a single wall was built to enclose the present-day Old Town. The city walls have been restored several times in history to resemble their original appearance. With your guide, see Fort Revelin and Minceta Tower within the city walls (entrance fees not included), and learn the strategic position of these forts and their role in Dubrovnik's history. You will also see Fort Lovrijenac in the distance, the only fort that belongs to the city walls but it's physically separated from them, and which you may visit after the tour. As you wander around Dubrovnik's ancient walls, your guide will explain the defensive and political challenges faced by Dubrovnik in the past. Hear stories of the rivalry and conquest Dubrovnik has faced and learn the secrets of how the country used defensive fortifications and diplomacy to remain an independent republic for several years, before ending your tour near the port. *Entrance fee to City Walls not included in price.

Walls, Wars and So Much More

We started our visit to Dubrovnik with this tour, and we are so glad we did. It gave us a helpful and thorough introduction to the city, as well as its layout. Marco was very engaging and made the city’s history come to life. He was incredibly professional and personable. One of the best guided tours we have ever experienced. Thank you for sharing your contagious hometown love with us, Marco.

We had an incredible tour with Jadranka exploring the Dubrovnik Walls. Since there was not a lot of tourists coming that week, we lucked out and ended up with just us on the tour. Instead of cancelling what was booked as a group tour, we got to do it with her as our personal guide. She was very knowledgeable and so personable, we had a blast and learned a ton. Highly recommend her and this tour to anyone visiting the city!

Best way to see Dubrovnik
Jelena

Our guide (his name was Davor) was passionate about Dubrovnik and its history. He told us stories in an interesting and captivating way. Prepare for almost 2km of walking and 900 stairs but I almost did not feel them since the view was amazing. We took a lot of pictures (of a beautiful sunset) and learned a lot of Dubrovnik history! Note: walking tour price does not include entrance to the walls. You have to pay that separately but definitely its worth the money!

Tour guide was superb

Trip was very informative and interesting and good to do it late afternoon when less people and sun setting. However it is expensive when you add in the 200 Kuna per person or £25 to get onto the walls.
icon Response from Host , Aug 2020
Dear Neil, Thank your for your lovely feedback! The tour is for 2 h and the price of the tour is 150 kn per person (20 Euros). Yes, we completely agree with you that the *city walls entrance ticket is expensive*, unfortunately we cannot change that as this is not our fee, this is a fee for anyone visiting the city walls, with us or on their own. Which is exactly why we suggest to all our guests to buy tickets on spot, upon entering the walls and to pay there, to them *200 kn per person or cca 27 Euros per person.* We don't sell these tickets. They only allow discount to EU students (only with certain student cards) and minors, under the age of 18 - they pay 50 kn each (cca 7 Eur). The city walls are operated by the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities and we are just a small local tour operator. We informed them many times that we think the price it too high, unfortunately we can only do so much... Anyways, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your tour with us and rated it with 5/5. Thank you, much appreciated! Kind regards, Maris
