What You Can Expect

Dubrovnik Ancient City Walls Historical Walking Tour

Dubrovnik Ancient City Walls Historical Walking Tour

Learn what makes Dubrovnik so special by booking this informative walking tour. Meet your guide just outside Pile Gate. Lead by a knowledgeable local guide, the tour takes in the limestone-paved streets of the city’s Stari Grad (Old Town), and uncovers the real story behind the city’s churches, monasteries and palaces. Walk the 1.2-mile (2-km) walls (entrance fee not included), which were first built in the 12th century, and get a different viewpoint of the city, as the shimmering Adriatic Sea dazzles you from a distance.

As you stroll, get an insider’s view of the history of Dubrovnik, from the 11th century when a sea channel, in what is now Stari Grad, was filled in. Learn also about the landmarks Fort Revelin and Minceta Tower. In the distance, you’ll see Fort Lovrijenac, the only fort that belongs to the city walls but is physically separated from them.

Listen to your guide regale stories from the city’s long and rich history, about how it was an autonomous republic buttressing both the Ottoman and the Venetian Empires. Your tour then finishes near the port.

*Entrance fee to City Walls not included in price.

This was an awesome way to get introduced to the city. I wouldn't have wanted to walk the wall without a guide. Highly recommended at sunset.

Very entertaining and informative tour, Marko would be a fabulous actor too !!! He was very enthusiastic and made what was essentially a 2 hour history lesson, the most fun we could have had. The old town is beautiful and the views from the walls are spectacular.

Our guide Natasa Dwac was wonderful. She knew the history, the art, and the architecture. She also explained the current political affairs after being asked questions about it.

You could walk the 2km of walls in 30 minutes easily and some people do pay a lot of money to check that box, but a 2 hour tour fits in all the historical and political angles as well as providing great views around Dubrovnik.

This was one of the best tours we took during our trip. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us just the right amount of information about Dubrovnik's history to keep us engaged throughout. She also provided nice recommendations on some other local attractions to visit. We would certainly recommend this tour, especially to first-timers! Timing was perfect as well as we went in early October so it wasn't too hot and crowded.

Small group, excellent guide with fantastic local knowledge. The meeting point is only about a 10-15 min walk from the cruise ship quayside, so no need to get stung by a taxi like we did...

I'm always wary of tours, because sometimes it's just a person reciting info that I can find on Wikipedia. But this tour was worth the money. Not only was it informative, but our guide (I forgot her name -- she had a very unique name) was extremely knowledgeable, could answer every question we threw at her, and made sure we were all enjoying our tour... despite the extreme August sun. We gave her a very generous tip not only for her resourcefulness and for sharing her culture, but for spending 3 hours with us under the scorching sun!
