What You Can Expect

Dubrovnik Super Saver: Old Town Walking Tour plus Sea Kayak and Snorkeling

Dubrovnik Old Town

Dubrovnik Old Town Walking Tour (1.5 hours):
After meeting your guide, head over to the city’s Stari Grad, literally Old Town, to stroll the limestone-paved streets within Dubrovnik’s thick and tall medieval walls. Learn about the history of the place and how the town was founded. Stop at Onofrio’s Fountain, a dome-like structure at one end of the Stradun that has, for centuries, provided the Old Town with drinking water. Sip from one of the many faucets on the fountain. Learn about the nearby Franciscan monastery, home to one of the oldest still-working pharmacies in Europe.

Keep walking down the wide Stradun, the man drag in Old Town, and stop at the Renaissance-era Sponza Palace, today home to the state archives. Also stop at attractions such as the Church of St Blaise, the city bell tower, the Rector’s Palace, with its amazing courtyard, and the city’s cathedral, partially rebuilt in the 18th century after a fire.

Then take about 45 minutes to either explore the town on your own — there is plenty to see — or sit down to have a quick lunch or a drink at your own expense.

Dubrovnik Sea Kayak and Snorkeling Small-Group Tour (3 hours):
After meeting your guide in the center of the city, walk to the sea and get a short instructional talk on proper kayak technique and safety procedures. Get your equipment, including a paddle and the kayak.

Then, it’s ready, steady, paddle! Kayak around the Old Town walls, near St Lawrence Fortress (Lovrijenac) and the city harbor, drinking in the views of one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. Learn from your guide about the history of the city and the thick walls that surround Old Town.

Keep on going all the way to Lokrum Island. Pull up to Betina Beach for a pit stop and to indulge in some snacks and water, then it’s on to the snorkeling. Dive into the Adriatic and see life below the surface of the beautiful sea, before paddling back to Dubrovnik.

I had a brilliant time. The girl in charge was very informative and we were made to feel safe at all times. They even sent a scout ahead to make sure it was safe before we reentered the harbour as its gets quite busy in the afternoons.

We loved our sea kayak tour! Neither of us are very fit but we managed it well (aching muscles afterwards though!). The kayak guide was brilliant and looked after us really well. When we were told how far we had kayaked we didnt believe it...I wont spoil the surprise for anyone else booking it!

If you don't know where to look it can be hard to find the launch site but you just need to go towards the fort and you will see the jetty down the steps. We would have liked to kayak some more whilst we were in Croatia but the weather turned very stormy and we were too chicken after that!

The walking tour of Dubrovnik was great too. The guide was very knowledgeable and took us around the old town at a comfortable pace. It is hard though to get a good idea of where you are as the old town was SO busy and packed with cruise ships and everyone else doing tours. Perhaps there could be a tour which runs after 4pm when the majority of people have disappeared?

Thanks - I would recommend this particular combination to anyone, it gave us a really enjoyable day in Dubrovnik.

Walking Tour - a must if you have the time. The learning opportunity is incredible. Imagine... the world's first pharmacy in the public domain, water supply piped into the walled city from external acquifer... which you can drink at will. See the 700 year old tradition of feeding the pigeons in the square. Nosh on incredible pizza, gelato, seafood... explore the churches, statues and learn more about the nobility that used to live in the walled city. FANTASTIC!

Sea Kayaking - if you have never been, do not be scared. You will have a guide, a dry place to put your valuables and a dry place for your camera - at the ready, as you paddle around the wall, over to the snorkeling beach. It was a bit rough on my return trip, but my triceps were on fire, my lips chapped (be sure to wear your swimsuit - you WILL get wet). Enjoy the sights featured in Game of Thrones, learn about the first quarantine (they had to keep disease out of the walled city), ancient attacks on the city, and recent memories from the conflict with Bosnia. A highlight of my trip to Dubrovnik. Excellent, friendly guide, with impeccable English, and a love of local history. Fantastic trip - you will not be disappointed!
