What To Expect

Get picked up at your hotel in Dubrovnik and then hop inside the air-conditioned vehicle to make the drive south to Montenegro. Drink in the views of the Adriatic Sea and the Dubrovnik Riviera and learn about the history and culture of the area from your local guide.

After crossing the border to Montenegro, twist and turn with the road, going around the large Bay of Kotor, and passing through charming villages along the way. Then stop in Perast, a lovely town at the base of St Elijah Hill. Consider taking the optional boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks island to check out the baroque-era church (at own expense).

The next stop is Kotor, situated in a fjord and one of the most eye-pleasing Montenegrin towns. Once there, begin a walking tour that goes throughout the squares and narrow cobbled streets, taking you to historic churches such as the Cathedral of St Tryphon. Then take some free time to do some wandering—consider marching up the 1,350 steep steps to the San Giovanni Castle for an incredible view and photo opportunity—or sit down for a drink or a snack (at own expense).

After Kotor, head to Budva, a gorgeous walled city on the sea boasts attractive beaches and narrow cobbled streets. Take some free time to explore or sit down for a meal (at own expense).

Take a ferry ride across the Bay of Kotor and then enjoy a final scenic drive along the coastal roads of Montenegro to end your day. You are returned to your Dubrovnik hotel.

Highly recommended

Fantastic day out. Highly recommend. You get to see some really beautiful parts of Montenegro. Recommend the optional boat trip to Our Lady of the Rocks. To maximise time in the old towns in Kotor and Budva, I would recommend finding a bakery and grabbing food to go. The food in the restaurants is excellent, but the service is very laid back and we lost an hour in Budva waiting for our food. Be prepared for a bit of a wait as you cross the border - both ways. We got back around 7pm because of queues at the border.
Overall, a good day trip
Tracy_A, Oct 2022
Overall the trip was really good. The bus was on time, the guide was knowledgeable and I had a good day. My only disappointment was that the boat trip to see The Lady of the Rocks in Perast wasn't worth the money. I knew it was €10 extra for the boat ride (took about 4 mins) but we then had to pay €3 to enter the church if we wanted to go in. We weren't aware of this cost as the guide didn't know they had started charging. We didn't pay to go into the church and so felt conned a little by the €10 boat ride cost. If you are religious/like churches then I'm sure it's worth it but otherwise, I would personally save the €10, stay on land and buy a coffee and cake and look at the island from the shore and see more of the town.
Amazing experience, must do trip to Montenegro
Julia_S, Oct 2022
This is a must have trip if you’re visiting Dubrovnik. The trip starts at 6.40am for me as I was the first to be picked up at Pile Gate and end at about 6.30pm. This really depends on how busy the border at Montenegro is. My trip was originally on 6 October but they rescheduled me to 7 October as I was not sure if I needed visa to travel. It turned out that I didn’t need to. I love the sightseeing and weather was perfect in Montenegro! Overall it’s an amazing experience, definitely highly recommend to check it out!

The English speaking tour guide she was brilliant and so well informed regarding the history of Croatia. The driver very skilled and we all felt safe with him driving. The day well planned.
Awful, 19h and 14h in bus
Florent_S, Aug 2022
VIATOR JUST SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO SUGGEST THIS KIND OF EXPERIENCE. Monténégro is really beautiful but this experience is not worth it, especially during high season. Like other travellers who made comments this summer we spent more time in the bus than enjoying the places. There was not only long control at the border but also big trafic on the way back. As comments were done VIATOR should have just cancelled this experience. But they preferred keeping money. Our day was from 7.00 am to 2am : 19h!!! The excursion time lasted in total 5 hours. 14h in the bus. The worst period of the day was the way back to Dubrovnik. We took the bus at 16.50 from Budva and arrived at 2am. We did not have anything to eat, no toilets available. The bus has air conditioning (unfortunately!!!), but be aware that the toilets are unavailable. We were suggested some breaks for toilets but they were disgusting. As for the entertainment in the bus, we had some explanation during the way but silence at the return On the other hand, be aware that in each stop you have to pay extras if you want a full experience (ferry, museum, cathedrals…) To finish we did not understand why we had to pay 1e each to enter Kotor as there is no control at all and everyone enters as he likes. We were told that this is a city tax, really strange. Next time for the same price we will rent a car and do it in low season. Thank you VIATOR for wasting a day of our holiday. And a night without eating anything as restaurants and markets are closed at 2am.
Do it!

We had a great time going on the day tour. Pick-up went very smoothly. It was our guide's first time doing the tour and he was very friendly and helpful. It was fun that he told us background information on the places during the time spent in the bus so that we were able to enjoy the (short; 1/2h in Perast, 2h in Kotor, 2h in Budca) time in every place as we wanted. To be fair, it was enough time to explore every place. Unfortunately we had a delay because someone of our group was 20(!!) minutes late, which resulted in us waiting around 3h at the border to return to Dubrovnik (so please be on time at the bus if you're going!). It was especially awful because our guide had requested everyone to be on time multiple times as well as repeating where and at what time we'd meet. In the end we were at our pick-up point around 9.30pm (21.30h).

It was ok.
Lindsey_H, Jul 2022
Pros, the trip is affordable, it takes you to see 3 cities in Montenegro including the island where Our Lady of the Rocks is (it costs additional €10 pp to ride boat over), Kotor is super cool. Cons, “tour” isn’t a great word for this trip because other than 2 sentences on the bus you don’t hear anything about the places you go to and once you’re there you’re off to be on your own. Third town with just the beach was 2 hours, where Our Lady of the Rocks was 1 hour. I’d reverse that and have more time there. Lately, lack of toilets. The bus has a toilet on board but the entire time it was locked. On our journey back to Dubrovnik from 4:10pm to past 7:00pm not toilet stops are planned. There was only 1 working toilet on the ferry. If the tour was not going to include a toilet on the entire drive back, they should have warned people. Lots of people were upset about this and we had several children on board.
NIce relaxing tour-- safe for single women travellers
amy_a, Jul 2022
On July 2, I booked this tour. This was my first time visiting Croatia but I also wanted to see the neighboring countries. The driver picked me up at a location that was a bit close to my lodging area. I went to the spot and he picked me up promptly. The driver was driving a van, maybe a Mercedes van, I can not remember the type of vehicle. However, the van was big and the van was air conditioned. The van was always very cool. For this trip, I, along with the others in the group, were driven to the various parts of Montenegro—Perast, Kotor, and Budva. In Perast, we paid a certain amount of Euros to take a mini boat to go out to the see the church. After this , we were driven to Kotor, where we had time to just walk around. After Kotor, we were taken to Budva, and had just enough time to eat lunch. I think we were given the most time in Kotor, based on my memory. Either way, it was nice to see another country because as a single woman traveller, there is no way I would be bold enough to rent a car and travel to this unknown country by myself. These tours are useful because they take the worry component away. I just join the trips and relax and enjoy the views, sights, and sounds. The driver was great and very kind. We got to all of the destinations safely and we returned home safely.

Day Trip Fun!
Terese_S, Jun 2022
Amazing day trip from Dubrovnik. Start early, we had no problems crossing the border, but a small group tour was worth it as we saw big busses during. Bring snacks! Persast was super cute. We did go to Our Lady of the Rocks, very majestic views. I would have liked more time there to sit on the water for coffee. Then Kotor was next, again breathtaking views of the mountains and walled city. We elected to eat her because it was already 1pm - great cafes and scenery. Next was Budva, a Russian Resort beach town, we thought it could have been skipped, but sat in the beach and enjoyed some cocktails - pack a suit/towel. Our guide was very knowledgeable and courteous.
Great trip

Great trip and fantastic guide . The drive along the coast was fantastic and relaxing . The guide gave history and information on the locations visited . I recommend it as a one day trip from Dubrovnik
A Must!

The guide gave us so many insightful historical facts. Montenegro was beautiful. We were able to visit several areas, all of which make it worth the trip.

Great Day Trip in Beautiful Montenegro!
Pritesh_P, Jun 2022
Would definitely recommend this great day trip to Montenegro. We joined a group of 12 on a bus journey, firstly through the small town of Perast, where we were able to take a short boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks. Then, it was off to the beautiful towns of Kotor and Budva. We absolutely loved these 2 towns, so small, quaint and pretty. All locals were super friendly, and we found some great streets with local goods. You are left to your own devices in both towns to explore at your own pace, around 2 hours for both. Was also pleasantly surprised by our tour guide who gave us super insightful info during the bus journey to each town, plus maps of each town. Only very minor improvement points, the bus was quite small, and didn't have AC or opening windows. So it can get a bit hot in the middle of the afternoon. But this didn't take away from the great day trip away from Dubrovnik, and seeing wonderful Kotor and Budva makes up for that. Absolutely recommended.

What a fantastic day would recommend to anyone I would do it again in a heartbeat there was loads to see and do

Tanya's Montenegro trip 10/10
Deborah_Y, May 2022
We were picked up from outside hotel, Tanya's Montenegro full day tour, it was very informative and interesting historical information about every stop. She was attentive to guests 10/10. Stopped at peralst, took ferry to lady of the rocks, very picturesque. Then onto Kotor town for few hours, followed by stop on Budva, we actually met the driver and Tanya in the restaurant table next to us, local goulash was sooo delicious and also very reasonably priced. Drive back to Dubrovnik in evening, driver stopped at bus station for us to depart to catch out bus to split. :)
Better than expected
Steve_D, May 2022
Kotur was the highlight for us. Ok it’s a smaller version of Dubrovnik but the setting and surroundings are different and the walk up the walls was excellent. More time there would been great. Budva was less impressive and under the current circumstances, the strong Russian influence turned us off somewhat. Our tour guide Tanya (hope I’ve spelled her name correctly) was a font of great information. The only downside was the delays at the Croatian border which meant we were 2 hours late getting home
Brilliant trip - worth booking!
Melissa_J, May 2022
We had a great tour guide who was very informative and knowledgeable. The coach was comfortable and the driver was excellent. Montenegro is a beautiful place and worth visiting if you have a day free when staying in Dubrovnik.

Well worth a day out
Michael_D, May 2022
The quality of the towns and views was exceptional. We travelled unfortunately on a rainy day so did not get the chance to see the beautiful scenery but you could tell what it would be like on a nice day. Our guide was very attentive and informative
