What To Expect

Begin the tour by getting picked up at your central Dubrovnik hotel and then head out of the city via comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Enjoy the view of the Adriatic and the Dubrovnik Riviera and the rural Konavle region, as your guide drives the van and gives you background on the history of Montenegro, a diminutive and overlooked Balkan country.

After crossing the border, ride along the coast roads, which curve around bay after bay. Admire the beautiful Bay of Kotor, Europe’s southernmost fjord, and stop in the village of Risan for a photo opportunity and to stretch your legs.

Later, hop out of the van to explore Perast. Stroll the streets and learn about the devastating earthquake that rocked the village in the 1970s, destroying much of the medieval town. Take in some of the Gothic and baroque buildings and then get on a boat to cruise out to a tiny island to check out the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks (at own expense).

After a boat ride back, get back in the van and ride to Kotor. The walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a fun stroll. Pop into the Cathedral of St. Tryphon and take some time to explore on your own.

Finally, head on to Budva, a walled city on the sea, sort of like a mini Dubrovnik. Drink in the views of the sea and take some time to relax on the beach or walk the narrow lanes inside the walls.

After some free time to explore, meet the guide at the prearranged time and start your journey back to Dubrovnik. Enjoy one last delight—a ferry crossing along the Bay of Kotor—and then finish your tour in the late afternoon back at your hotel.

Dubrovnik (Pass By)

Start your day with a pickup from your centrally located Dubrovnik hotel, and then travel out of the city by luxury vehicle. While your private guide drives, sit back and relax, admiring the scenic countryside of Župa Dubrovacka Valley and the Konavle region.

Bay of Kotor (Pass By)

Cross the border to Montenegro and travel along the picture-perfect Montenegro coast, typified by sweeping blonde-sand beaches. Pass the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor -- Europe’s southernmost fjord -- and then stop at the charming coastal town of Risan to stretch your legs and admire the seaside views.

Traveler Tips

Budva, outside the old city, isn't very attractive, but if you focus on the old city, it's worth a short stop.
Spend the money and get this private tour if you can.
I would recommend starting at 7am vs 8am as we did… we beat most of the crowds and border crossing didn’t take very long.

It was worth paying extra for a private tour!
Meaghan_G, Aug 2022
It was worth paying extra for a private tour. Our guide showed up on time and we were able to leave at 730am instead of 8am. We got thru the border crossings quickly and learned SO much about Montenegro and Croatia from our driver. He was so nice and so easy to talk with. I unfortunately dont remember his name. My tip - avoid going on the weekend! We went on a Monday and traffic was not bad at all. This was a great day and experience! I recommend.
Mountainous Montenegro
Kim_S, Sep 2022
We have been touring in Croatia and decided to visit a nearby country. We were pleasantly surprised by how different Montenegro is. Mountains down to the sea, and a different cultural feel. Would highly recommend this trip. Deanna was a friendly and informative guide. We were out of the van a lot, so didn’t feel like we were all day cooped up!
The Most of Montenegro in a Day

Our driver Ivan did a fantastic job. He was full of interesting information and knew many great places to go. His experience proved very useful as we avoided a longer wait at the boarder. He was flexible in where and how we went, customizing the trip for our likes and desires. He made some great suggestions and took input from us as well. Fabulous experience.
A beautiful day trip.

Nino is an excellent guide
Theresa_D, Sep 2022
Nino is an excellent guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area, history and culture. He was pleasant and helpful. Nino let us tour the 3 stops at our own pace so we could spend more or less time depending on our preferences. As 2 women traveling alone we felt safe and comfortable with him as our guide.

This tour was great! We were picked up in a van and there were only 2 of us so it was super spacious. Iva was our guide and she was great, very friendly and knowledgeable!
Beautiful way to see Montenegro!
Brianna_S, Sep 2022
This was an excellent way to see many towns in Montenegro in just one day! It was a long day, but full of adventure! Our tour guide, Tina, was so nice and very knowledgeable about the area. She offered lots of recommendations for sight seeing which allows you to kind of make the most of the day doing the things you like best, so there are options to personalize the trip when doing the private tour. Our favorite places were Perast ans Kotor! I would recommend staying in Kotor longer to have lunch and laying on the beach in Budva!
Very Good - local tour operator needs to have their timing and staff sorted out immediately.
Bela_T, Sep 2022
The tour is very good. It was a private tour with an English speaking guide. One star taken away because: We got a text to cancel the tour as they did not have the right driver / guide available. We were ready to cancel the tour due to this. However, the sent a text in about 5 minutes that the tour is on. The driver did not speak English. The guide did not speak proper English and she confirmed that she has been a tour guide for only one month. Better guides are available. We knew more about the history and local spots more than the guide !! When you pay over 400 Euros - you do expect that the staff speak good English and have good local knowledge.
Excellent

Stunning views !
Sarah_W, Aug 2022
One word 🤩 WOW! we started our journey to Montenegro with an early pickup and nice drive with our driver Marijo who informed us of the history on the way. We visited Perast and then Kotor with absolutely amazing views of the coast line. Both cities were stunning with great architecture. Be prepared and have passports ready to enter the boarder. Thankfully we did not have a long wait to enter or depart the country. Overall definitely recommend ! Wear comfortable shoes!

Skip the tour bus and book the private transfer!
Marissa_K, Sep 2022
We had the best time on our private Montenegro tour with our guide Ivan! Throughout the day, Ivan made our trip incredibly enjoyable. First off, we got through the Croatia/Montenegro border with ease compared to several big tour buses having to wait a long time. The sites we traveled to were absolutely beautiful, Perast and Kotor being our favorite! Ivan was very knowledgeable and told us a lot of interesting stories and facts throughout our car ride; he also provided excellent recommendations for each stop on the trip, especially our lunch in Budva. Thanks for a great day, Ivan!
Great day with incredible guide!
Donna_D, Sep 2022
Eva was an incredible tour guide! Authentic, personable, with great perspective in both Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia-Herzegovina!!! A delightful tour all around👍🏻 Follow the guides advice on timing, to miss the traffic and long border lines…..
Fantastic way to explore !

A fantastic day and great way to get a taste of a new country. Many thanks to our excellent guide Marin, who not only knew his stuff but also navigated the roads well and drove safely the whole time. So this trip if you get the chance and are interested in Montenegro.
Amazing Day Trip!

Perfect Fay for Us
LannyDuvall_D, Sep 2022
We booked this tour when our boat tour cancelled because of stormy weather. We knew it would be a rainy day so going on a long car ride and getting out here and there between the raindrops seemed good to us! And it was perfect. Touring the two towns in Montenegro on our own was great. Our driver, Mario, offered good recommendations where to eat (Scala in Kotor) and he did not disappoint! This was not a tour rich in historical information….which we were happy about. We asked questions, Mario answered . We googled our own historical info and read it as we walked along. The driver cannot guide you through the towns. You’ll need to get a local guide or go about it on your own. So do some research ahead of time if this is important to you. We were just happy to walk around and explore without a guide. And it only rained while in the car and stopped whenever we got out! Not sure how the tour company made this happen 😀😀😂😂
