It was awesome. Spring or summer is highly recommended to see unique wild flowers over the mountain.

Fantastic experience. Cruise ship had booked earlier service and decided we would leave port earlier than planned, but staff from Taieri railway arranged a shuttle for us when we got back and coordinated with cruise staff to ensure we made It back on time. Thanks!

A must for railway fans and mountain viewers alike. You go from the impressive Railway Station at Dunedin through very stunning scenery. The photos don't do it justice go and see it instead.

This is an experience not to be missed- the first amazing part is arriving at the amazing and beautiful station building itself the inside is also very lovely - tiled floor - old ticket office- walls and windows all worth a good look. The train is a lovely thing and is well maintained. The trip is great fun and through amazing scenery. the commentary is good - but sometimes hard to hear with the sound of the train! there are safe standing areas between coaches - which provide opportunities for breathtaking photos - such as the train going round a bend to cross a bridge! there is a stop midway for photos and stretching of legs - and another at the end of the line - where more people got on. All seats are allocated upon booking or in my case swapping my voucher for a ticket. There is a good shop with reasonably priced memorabilia at the station. There is also a pub-restaurant in the station building - that also does coffee and snacks.
