We had comfortable seats and really enjoyed the unique and spectacular scenery along this route. At the end of the route they reverse the route so that if you're riding backwards one way your return trip is facing forward.

An amazing journey through the stunning scenery of Dunedin. The train was very clean and it was like stepping back in time with the authentic carriages. Staff were very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommended.
Super train trip, stunning views. Excellent commentary but not constantly which meant it was pleasantly relaxing.
4 hours was a little long but would recommend this trip to anyone..
Wonderful trip loved every minute! Cafe staff were awesome, Train Manager was full of local knowledge
Great slow train ride with awesome views, great time overall.
First class trip, spectacular scenery and lovely staff. Very pleasant always
Superb run up and down the Taieri area with great commentaries. A long train journey with lots to see and plenty of photo-opportunities. Be careful if you have a dinner-date at the end of it, as we had to wait about 20 minutes before we could get back to Dunedin Station as there was a freight-train on the main line when we rejoined it outside Dunedin. Well worth the effort! A must-see when in Dunedin.
Outstanding scenery with plenty of time to fully appreciate it. The one quibble I have is that due to the large gap between some of the steps on the train I found it difficult to step up onto the train. Perhaps a portable step could be provided for those less able to climb onto the train.
Just a delight to travel through some amazing scenery. A very well run tour for rail fans and anyone interested in spectacular scenery. Just great.
A very good four hours, and well worth the fair paid, did not know what to expect, but the train , the comentaries and the scenery exceeded my expectations
We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. If it Dunedin it's a must for beautiful scenery. Would highly recommend and the plus is the train station. We arrived a few hours early to spend time admiring the architecture. This was a perfect way to spend the afternoon.
This rail trip is really one of the best so definitely go and do it!!!
Overall you cant complain here.....Its an AMAZING countryside to see by train once you are out of town....The train station itself is just glorious......If I could change anything it would be that the food cart is just not a good setup.....everyone has to make their way to one carriage and then buy packaged sandwiches and take them back to their seat to eat them.....I would have gladly paid extra for a lunch to be served at the table and you could see that a couple of the older passengers struggled getting around while the train was in motion.....It would be great too if the train driver gave a bit of a demo on how the engine worked while we were stopped.....let the kids have a go on the whistle.....BUT and its a big BUT......this tour overall is exceptional value and it was one of our highlights in NZ.
A nice ride away from the coast. The rail ticket office was well organized and had our tickets ready. The scenery was great. The hillside was yellow with blooms. The sunny and the 60 degree temperature added to the nice excursion.
The city providedo complimentary shuttle from the ship to the town and it's a short walk to the rail station. The Cadbury candy factory was very close to the rail station.
We really enjoyed our trip. It took us through some amazing scenery. The staff throughout, from the railway station and on the train, were so lovely. It's a great way to spend a few hours and not too expensive.
A very interesting day out. Great views and amazing what the people of the time were able to do by hand. It would have been a major undertaking even with the machinery we have today.
Was OK but when we only had one day in Dunedin we felt we wasted it just sitting on a train going through more NZ country. If you weren't travelling around the country in a car than would be a good opportunity to see some country side. Very bland hills though. A lot of deforestation happening. Quite a long way to go to see a few gullys and bridges. Could be prettier in spring- autumn with the trees in flower. No leaves during our winter trip. I wish we had done something different with our 4 hours.
Beautiful scenery and great train ride. Commentary was a bit traditional with facts and figures and did really tell us the story we were expecting.
