Your tour begins with pickup from your Dunhuang hotel by private vehicle and an around 30-minute journey to Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After watching a film about the fascinating history of the caves and their importance, situated on the ancient Silk Road; venture inside to admire the ancient Buddhist art and murals. There are 492 caves and temples in total, and you’ll visit several of the most important, including Cave 96, the largest cave, and Cave 17, where a significant collection of Buddhist scriptures were discovered.
Continue through the striking scenery of the Gobi Desert to reach the Singing Sand Dune, so called for the melodic sound created by the sands shifting in the wind. Here, you’ll mount up for a thrilling camel ride through the desert, climbing the dunes to enjoy spectacular views of the sand dunes and the glittering Crescent Lake below. After descending the dunes, ride close to the lake, as your guide tells you more about its mysterious history.
Back at the minivan, set out on the return journey to Dunhuang, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel around 5pm.
