Private Tour: 'Outlander' TV Locations Day Trip from Edinburgh or Glasgow

See Geillis Duncan's home in the village of Culross

Your private Outlander adventure begins with morning pickup from your central Glasgow or Edinburgh hotel. Aboard the coach, meet your expert guide and set off to explore Scotland’s wild Highlands and the filming locations for the popular Starz fantasy series. Along the way, delve into the details of the show, adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s series about a World War II nurse who hops back in time to 1740s Scotland during the Jacobite rising.

Your first stop is the charming village of Falkland nestled in the Lomond Hills. Stroll through the town that served as the setting of 1947 Inverness to see the church that represented Danleigh Parish Church and stop for a photo outside of Campbells Café. Following the guided tour, take some time to independently explore the town – where the young Mary Queen of Scots spent her happiest childhood days! – and grab some lunch (own expense).

After lunch, continue to the medieval Doune Castle – Outlander’s fictional Castle Leoch. Hear about the area's gruesome 18th-century battles that took place during the Jacobite rising, both fictional renditions and real-life warfare. Snap some photos of the castle from the outside or take an optional interior tour (own expense).

Next head to Culross (aka Cranesmuir), where characters Geillis and Arthur Duncan live, and on to Jamie Fraser’s home in Lallybroch. Bonus! Your private tour grants exclusive access to the closed filming location in Lallybroch.

As you travel, enjoy little-known stories about the show’s production. Test yourself with entertaining trivia about clans, warfare, Scottish history and signature Outlander characters!

Your 9-hour tour concludes with an early evening return to your Edinburgh or Glasgow hotel.

My husband and I took the private Outlander tour with Gerry. We absolutely loved it! While we are casual fans of the TV series, we are also interested in Scottish history. Gerry was very knowledgeable and provided us with so much interesting information. He also had many great inside stories about the show. The sites we visited were fantastic in their own right, but were also particularly interesting given the fact that we had seen them on TV. The little towns and villages we visited were among the cutest places we have ever seen. Right out of a storybook - literally. We will definitely be back to do another tour with Gerry in the future. Our day with him could not have been better

Absolutely amazing tour! Not only did our tour guide have an excellent knowledge of the filming locations and being the scene trivia, he also included tons of Scottish history. He also gave us excellent recommendations for the rest of our trip, ranging from hikes to eateries. It was the best decision we could've made!!!

LOVED this tour with Gerry McMullen. Not only was he full of information, he was also full of fun and friendliness. We got to see all the scenes described on the website, heard stories about them, as well as info about random things we were seeing in the countryside. Plus, his driving was first rate. We were able to relax and see a lot of the Scottish country. Every one of the four of us considers this tour to be the highlight of our 12 day trip.

Our tour guide was marvelous. Jerry knew so much about Scotland's history and current happenings. He took us to Outlander filming sights and told us many stories about the actors and the way that the crew staged the different filming areas. He personalized the tour to fit our interests and needs. Jerry made it a very special day by playing music from the sound track, reading excerpts from the book.and topped it off with a dram of delicious single malt scotch.

The only critique I have is that the information about the tour states that cost is 212.50 per person and we had to pay for four people even though it was only my husband and myself. I asked if two more people could join us and share in the cost but was told no by Viator. Also the info online states that the tour is approx. 9 hours but our tour only lasted from 9:00am till about 3:30pm which was 6.5 hours. Granted, this tour was my favorite day of our two weeks in the UK and Jerry was certainly a high value guide and great guy.

Wow. Just WOW. Gerry McMullan was an absolute gem. My father Glenn organized the Outlander tour on my first day back in Scotland I live in Los Angeles, as he knew how much I love the TV show. Gerry wasn't just a tour guide, he knew the story, characters and history of each Outlander location. My stepmum and I throughly enjoyed spending the day with Gerry and it was worth every cent pence. He even arranged lunch for us at a local pub, where we were greeted like regulars. I'll be returning to Scotland in Spring and will definitely book another tour with Gerry. I'll be posting on my blog with lots of photos and video too. Thanks again Gerry! See you soon. Jo
