My 15 year old son and I took this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and provided great insight to Edinburgh history that we would not have gotten on our own. I found the well system and the fact that the Radisson Blu hotel on the Royal Mile is actually the newest building there, not one of the older ones which it looks like especially interesting. Be prepared to work your legs. Edinburgh is a very vertical city. There are LOTS of steps and ups and downs. If possible, I would do this tour early on your trip. You get to see a lot of things/places you may want to explore further later in your trip. You end at Edinburgh castle and can spend as much time there as you want.

This was a great tour even made more interest by our guides knowledge and light hearted delivery
This was our last tour while in Edinburgh and worth the wait! William, our guide, was punctual, informative and funny! Learning the key points in this beautiful city, as well as it's Geologic history, made our visit even more fascinating!
Lady was very informative. Saw sections of Edinburgh we didn't know existed and probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. Learned about parts and structures of Edinburgh we wouldn't have noticed or think were worth notice otherwise.
Fascinating, well organized tour with many historical stories and facts about the buildings and landscape around you on the Royal Mile. Well worth it, especially if you're only in the city for a short time.
I'm now obsessed with the castle! Great tour guide Naomi! She was very funny and knowledgeable.
We had such a great time on this tour. Our guide was very knowledgable and you could tell he was proud of his city. He even gave us more information every time we ran into him after our tour had ended. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone visiting Edinburgh.
Our tour guide was hilarious! I can and #39;t think of her name right now but this is a tour I highly recommend to anyone coming to Edinburgh. She was well informed and kept us laughing. Absolutely a 5 star experience!
Our guide was wonderful and skip the line is definately the way to go :
Tour was very interesting. Two people had to use the restroom and missed over an hour of the tour. Guide was very concerned in their well-being, but this distracted from the tour. She was easy to understand and mixed enough of the old with the new throughout the tour. She had some print-outs that she showed us in a binder and I quite enjoyed being able to see what she was speaking about.
Excellent walking tour around the o,d town in Edinburgh. Our guide William was excellent and kept everyone well informed and also had a very entertaining way of telling stories.
It was not what I had expected from the tour description, but still very good.
Great tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. An overall history of the town.
Hannah was an excellent tour guide. Highly recommend this tour of the Royal Mile and the Edinburgh Castle.
Sue our tour guide gave us a great insight into historical Edinburgh. She told us great stories and engaged us during the tour. The entry into the Castle was great as we were able to skip the long lines and enter the Castle quickly
We though this walking tour was excellent our guide was very good and certainly knew what she was talking about. I wish I knew her name but we were on the 1.30pm tour on Monday 29th August 2016. It was just right for us not too far and not too energetic, but we saw an awful lot amd really enjoyed it. Thanks.
I really recommend taking this walk tour of the city and Edinburgh castle. the tour guide from Mercat tours was great and really knowledgeable about the city and it's history and loved living there. If you can get Gillian to the be the guide you will have a wealth of knowledge about Edinburgh by the time the tour is done. While it rained the whole time that we were there we were ready for the wet weather an didn't let that hamper our enjoyment of the day

This tour was great! I wish it were longer though. I mean my legs hated me a LOT afterwords, but it was completely worth it. I learned a lot about Edinburgh and it gave me new insigts on the city. Hannah, the tour guide was great and made sure to keep us all together. She was very knowledgeable and really friendly.
Booking with Viator for the Mercat tour was a great idea. My wife and I enjoyed the educational tour that took us through the Royal Mile and into the castle. I appreciated the options to have the Viator pass for my iPhone. It was a little tricky calling Mercat Tours to confirm our appointment, but that worked out also. The staff at Mercat tours were friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful tour guide.

I loved Edinburgh and plan to go back. It was terrible weather when we toured but we made the most of it. The town is quite condensed, packed with people and lots of things to do. I would recommend a few days because it is so crowded that it makes sightseeing take longer than normal. Our guide was great and shared a lot of the Scottish history that I had not heard.
Our tour guide Margaret was absolutely amazing! The Tour was deeply informative and made our visit to Edinburgh come alive with its rich history and secret gems. If you are travelling to Edinburgh, a Mercat historical walking tour is a MUST.
