What You Can Expect

Whisky-Tasting Day Trip from Edinburgh

Taste and learn about Scottish whisky

Your 8.5-hour tasting excursion sets off from Edinburgh in the morning. Meet your guide in city center and take a comfortable seat in the van for the 1.5-hour drive into the Scottish Lowlands. As you travel west, listen as your guide shares fascinating information about Scotland’s most famous drink – many centuries ago called the ‘water of life’ and used as a health tonic. Hear about the high standard of whisky-production that has made Scotland a premier global producer.

North of Glasgow, you’ll stop at Glengoyne Distillery in Dumgoyne. Renowned for its distillation process – one of the slowest in the world! – Glengoyne makes a masterful art of whisky-making. Tour the grounds, learn about the complex production process and enjoy samples of rich 12- and 18-year old products.

Then head into Trossachs National Park for a beautiful scenic drive through forest-covered terrain and dramatic mountain peaks. You’ll stop near Loch Lomond for a hearty pub lunch (own expense) – good for balancing out a day of whisky tasting!

Afterward, head to Deanston Distillery, situated in a converted cotton mill on the River Teith. Repurposing the mill’s original hydroelectric generators, Deanston is notably the most environmentally friendly distillery in Scotland. Tour the space and enjoy a fun sensory tasting of two different types of single malt Scotch. Test your tastebuds for hints of lemon zest, nutmeg, barley, toffee, cocoa and vanilla. Don’t forget to stop by the onsite shop to pick up some of your favorite drink before departing.

To end your trip, relax for the hour-long ride head back to Edinburgh, arriving by evening.

It is important to note that both distillery tours are an additional fee you need to paid to the distilleries themself, but otherwise this is an excellent tour. When you do pay for the tours, I and #39;d encourage you to take the second options, as it means you and #39;ll be tasting a second whiskey per visit.

This was a great all-day activity. Not only did we get to visit two distilleries, where we learned a lot about the production of Scotch single-malt, but the drive through the countryside was beautiful. The tours and tastings are an additional expense, but the cost was nominal and certainly worth doing.

Only made one of the two distilleries, where we bought 3 bottles of excellent Highland whiskeys. Then our guide, Mike, mentioned we would see Doune Castle very close to the second distillery. For Outlander fans, that is Castle Leoch!! He dropped the people interested in the distillery there, and took the rest of us to the Castle, which we were able to tour. Bought a Fraser tartan plaid there and was immensely happy! Mike was the best, telling of Scot/Brit history most of the way

My husband is a whisky lover and enjoyed this trip very much. The driver James was very nice and instructive. The whisky that we tasted was fantastic and lunch was delicious.

Fantastic trip, and our tour guide was first rate. Definitely worth the price. As other commenters have noted, the distillery tours and tastings are not included in the price, but are fairly modest. Pay a bit extra for the three tastings!

This was a terrific experience whether you are a scotch fan or not and Paul was a fun tour guide! We visited Glencoyne first which was in production provided a great tour of the facilities and the tastings were excellent! Deanston was not in production but was still a good tour. I would have maybe opted for a Distillery that was in production but it was a good example of how different the Distillery's can be. Lunch could have been a better experience as it appeared the restaurant was prepared for the tours that descended upon it so the service was slow....The food was excellent but the slow service limited our time to wander around Loch Lomond! Still - I highly recommend this tour!!!

Brilliant driver/guide. Both whisky distilleries were interesting experiences especially the tastes. I would use Rabbies, who did the tour, for other tours of Scotland based on this experience.
