Although I am a jaded expat New Yorker, now living in s. Florida, I had some serious learning to do in regards to the Everglades. First, the moment we took our seats in the tram, we saw and learned more about alligators probably a couple of dozen, and that was just from the vantage of the seat than I ever imagined we'd see. It was actually my first encounter with alligators outside of a zoo and the elusive few living at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. Then, the birds well, I lost count. Even the fauna was well represented, and described. Which brings me to my final point. Our guide, Antonio T., was simply the best he shared his first-hand knowledge of the park with us lucky enough to ride his tour. What I learned, that I never knew before: prior to 1947, Humble Oil, one of the major oil companies from the 19th century, had a pumping rig in the Everglades. As Humble was able to pump only a lesser-quality crude from that well, they were encouraged to quit the well and thus leave the park. The lesson I learned specifically is about drilling rights, and ecological change in general. Will we allow drilling and minerals exploration - using technology in whatever guise it takes - in national parks, or stay the course and prevent drilling and fracking activities from despoiling our beautiful heritage? I'm not a tree hugger but I want to extend a special Thank You to our guide for sharing this insight.
Interesting 15 mile trip via tram through part of the everglades. you had better bring plenty of mosquito spray
because they will eat you up if you don't spray yourself. Glad we did the tour. The guide was very informative.
Thia tour was fantastic. The guide was very informative and we saw beautiful birds and alot if alligators.
It was a great tour and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Very educational -- good guide and good driver made the experience very enjoyable. We saw lots of alligators, blue herons, great egrets and many other birds. Learned a lot about the everglades and the sawgrass environment.
Fantastic tour and guide! Over 50 alligators and babies, Roseate Spoonbill, storks, many herons, egrets, turtles!!!
Alligator was swimming in the water right by the parking lot!
it was very easy to book this tour thru Viator since I had a hard time getting the park to answer the phone. The tour was wonderful we took the 10am tour which was perfect. Leaving from Naples at around 8 we arrived in plenty of time to look around and explore before getting on the tram.Be sure to take your voucher to the gift shop to trade it in for your tram ticket. The early tour was great for many reasons...it was early enough and cooler so the wildlife was active and plentiful. Plus it was more comfortable...if you come later beware that they only let in the amount of people that can fit in the parking lot so when we left around noon cars were only allowed in as one was leaving. People did park outside the gate and walk in. Loved this tour...great for photographers and people with mobility problems.
Must Do! If you are near the Shark Valley visitor center, make time to take this ranger led tram tour. We took the 3pm tour in February and there was so, so much wildlife to see. Our ranger was knowledgeable and clearly cared about the Everglades and it's residents. My only criticism was that the tour was too short.
We enjoy learning details about unique environs, animals, etc. and our tour guide gave us plenty of them! We saw LOTS of alligators and various birds, learned that the Everglades is NOT swamp, etc. Would encourage anyone going on tram to sit on the LEFT side, as we were told to stay in initial seats after our halfway point stop... and we saw way more than folks on other side of tram.
Naturalist did an outstanding job explaining about the uniqueness of the Everglades, and identifying and giving information about the plants, animals, birds, etc. We took a morning tour and birds and alligators were present in abundance. Highly recommend this tour.
Excellent guides who know and understand the glades. A lot of birds and gators. Two hour tour is perfect amount of time to see the overall area. It is hot so be prepared with sunscreen and water. Many options if you like to bike.
Outstanding ranger-led tour. Saw lots of wildlife and the ranger was very well-informed.
Slight bit of rain did not diminish the day in the least. Tour was well presented. The gators were incredibly plentiful and remarkably close to the visitors. The birdlife is AMAZING. Hundreds of photo opportunities.
I went to Everglades with my gf. We hesitated between spending more time at shark valley or the flamingo center area and decided to go for both, I have to say I enjoyed my time at the shark valley way more than the other. If you were time constrained like I was, take the tram ride, it was an awesome experience with an educational guide giving us a rundown on the place, pointing out the fauna/flora that we would definitely have otherwise missed if we went walking/cycling alone. There was an abundance of alligators and even baby alligators!
The tram ride would cost you about 24 dollars, take you about 2 hours and renting a bike would cost you 9/hr.
Fantastic everglade experience for first timers to the area!! Great guide and driver were knowledgeable and great at spotting wildlife!
Must have seen 15 alligators and a few babies plus an amazing variety of birds! Would highly recommend this tour!
Our guide and driver were excellent. Not a lot of wildlife that day -- too hot. We still learned a lot and had a great time.
Interesting! Well worth the time and we learned so much! Loved it!
very knowlegeable guide on time saw lots of alligators and birds and other wildlife.
Great guide, very knowledgable, lots of wildlife encounters, well worth the money. Highly recommend!
A great way to see the park! Very informative guides and shade! Plenty to see on the trip around the park!!
Excellent tour Tour guide was well informed and had a wealth of knowledge about the everglades.. The driver was also able to point out several sites along the route. Will be doing this again.
unbelievable tour!! the guide was so passionate about his job. you rarely see this kind of enthusiasm in people when they are working. he kept saying that two hours was not enough time for him to show all he wanted to share. fantastic time. at the end of the ride each and every person thanked him for the wonderful time they had. if i didn't live in massachusetts i would be back there many times just to listen and learn from him.
Informative guide. Lots of alligators, birds and turtles. A small shop to buy drinks and food cold. No coffee tho! After tram tour we were able to walk around the area exploring and taking photos. What we hadn't appreciated is that Shark Valley is small and unable to canoe/kayak - that is approx an hour away. You can hire bikes by the hour. Seemed expensive so we didn't.
